So the committee is officially a joke

You’re wrong either way.

I’ve only argued they earned the opportunity to play in the playoffs and got screwed. If they win this game, that is validation.

The only thing I’ve heard in this thread that they could have done better is change their OOC schedule or joined a P5 conference which is ridiculous. Everything that was in their power to do on the first day of the season they did, and they did it with the best offense in the nation. OK, Clemson, Bama, and UGA can’t say the same. In fact, no other team in DivI can say that.

They took care of business this year and tallied a few quality wins. A win over an SEC team that beat two SEC teams in the playoffs is validation. Their overall resume would be at least as good as Bama’s, if not better, depending on what Bama does in the playoffs.

Agree to disagree, but this isn’t as absurd an argument as you are making it out to be.

It’s absurd to use the result of this game as a retroactive validation for them not making the playoff.

Is it an absurd argument as of yesterday to say UCF had a legit argument for the playoffs?

If Wisconsin wins it’s CG, then absolutely UCF is the odd man out. Once Wisconsin lost, they should have opened the door for the lone remaining undefeated. Especially over a Bama team that didn’t win its conference and didn’t have a single OOC quality win. If FSU was a 8-10 team, I can see maybe putting Bama in. But Bama effectively suffered from what UCF did, who was on their schedule and how they did this year. Except UCF completed its season.

UCF should have been in before this game, and winning this game is further proof.

UCF should have been in before this game, and winning this game demonstrates that.

It does not. If they won a game like this BEFORE the playoff selection, then maybe, but they didn't.

Again, this goes back to the arguments of joining a better conference or changing their OOC schedule, neither of which was possible after the first game of this season, or even a couple years prior if the schedules were made that far in advance.

If they win this game, it demonstrates that are a playoff team. You even just said it, if they played this in the regular season then at least maybe that would be the case. Because they couldn’t, they did everything they could instead, and put enough together with their body of work to show that. This win would show their body of work was good enough, even though I think it was anyway before this game.

I’ll concede them getting screwed is arguable, but it is not a crazy notion, and if they win, it is even less arguable and more certain.

If UCF wins this game I think they got screwed. Just proves we need to go to a 8 team model. 5 conference champions and 3 at large.

That’s the worst idea i have ever seen. Guarantees that the group of 5 team would have an interim coach as the head coach would leave after regular season for a bigger school. And don’t give me the “Scott Frost coached his former team thru bowl game.” That’s an outlier and will happen once every hundred coaching changes. Should be a 6 team playoff at most with top two getting a bye.

Nobody. They beat literally nobody of note. Their schedule was hot garbage.

I agree, but in fairness they opened against Florida State. It's not their fault that FSU was historically awful this year. You schedule a team like that expecting elite vs elite.

So? The fact was that FSU sucked. But Bama was crowned before the season started.

#9 SOS my ass.

If Fitzgerald doesn't snap his ankle, MSU is a top 15 team. Had Francois not went down in opener for FSU, FSU wins 9 games minimum and is another top 15 team. LSU was another top 20 team.

You may not like their schedule but you're not going to have a lot of people on your side if you think Bama isn't one of the top 4 best teams.

At the end of the day, the committee has to pick the 4 best teams for the playoff, not the 4 most deserving.

Which is precisely why this system is no better than national championships of years past. It is still a popularity contest.

Conference championship winners should play. Period. Not third place teams.

Sorry but I want to see the best teams play. Ohio State is not better than Bama.

USC is not better than Bama.

You're basically saying that UCF deserves a spot because they went 13-0 over Bama. Bama would destroy UCF and so would the other 3 playoff teams.

Its clear you believe everyone should get a participation trophy.

Bama is not the best team in its conference, division, or state...yet they could win the NC.

It’s a broken system. Plain and simple.

Nope. nice try though. Bama is getting one though.

Who's better than Bama that didn't make the playoff?

Through the same number of games Wisconsin was undefeated and had the 14th ranked SOS from the same poll that put Bama at 9th. Wisconsin effectively got penalized for playing in a conference championship game that Bama couldn’t make it too. The committee then gave Bama what amounts to a first round bye for losing its conference.

Do I think Bama would beat Wisconsin? Maybe. But if the committee job is to pick the 4 best teams, they are clearly demonstrating it is more of a popularity contest than using objective or even fair criteria. The committee is saying some teams get a one game mulligan, while others cant lose a single game, and others have no shot no matter what (see UCF).
