So...the HEAT is already on New UF Coach Jim McElwain

And by "recent" you mean the last 40 years? :)

If we lose to you guys this year, I'd be disappointed, but at some point all winning streaks end.

Given the expectations of both teams, I'd guess UF fans would be less disappointed losing to UT than UT fans would be if they lost to us.

FYP...

Back on topic, it's ironic the last 1st year UF coach UT lost to was Spurrier.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Our largest margin of defeat against you guys during that same stretch came when Spurrier was our coach (42 pts in 1990 and 17 pts in 1992).

In spite of that, Spurrier turned out to be a decent head coach for us. :)

Four weeks into his gig at UF? Doubtful.

We have our idiot Walmart sidewalk alums like Waco who overreact and think the sky is falling whenever a little adversity hits. However I'd wager the majority of our fans expect to take a step back this year while McElwain rebuilds the offense.

Unless McElwain mismanages the clock like Zook did in the first half of our '03 game, or sticks with the starting QB too long like Muschamp almost did last year, or plays not to lose like Muschamp did every game, chances are he'll get a pass if we lose to UT.

Answered my question. :hi:

Yet somehow Mac is on par with Dooley after success as an OC at Fresno and
Bama then rebuiding CSU in 3 yrs....yeah he's a Dooley clone.

If Butch doesn't win 9 games or beat a rival or two then he's pretty much is Zook. Avg coach but great recruiter.

Zook inherited what should've been a heisman trophy winning quarterback, not to mention he was following Spurrier. Butch followed Dooley, not exactly the same situation. Comparing Butch to Zook is as equally ridiculous as comparing McIlwain to Dooley. I think CJM will be successful at UF, I just don't know enough about him to say if he will be the home run hire that you hope he will be.

no socks with the suit? what part of the South are you from? looks good to me! (maybe he wants to fit in with us)

Memphis. Gray suit with no socks is laughable. Wearing a gray suit with no socks looks like you forgot to put on socks. It's hot as balls down here and you feet will reek without socks

Yeah...we got the Vol fan reaction down pat. :). My question is if Tennessee pulls out a win this year against your new coach, does that affect the consensus opinion of him with your fanbase?

Depends on the circumstances. If we just get outplayed, due to lack of depth particularly on offensive line, it will be only the newest fans who are bothered by it. Everyone else, with some life experience and understanding just how bare the cupboard was left by Muschamp, kind of predict it at this point.

But for the fact that the game is in Gainesville, I'd say this may be your last best chance to get it done. If it were up there and you still lost to this shell of a team (at some positions, not all) then I'd say the coaching questions would likely come on your end.

This.

Most people who know what time it is know what was left by Muschamp.

There's a reason Florida was picked to finish 5th in the SEC East and it ain't McElwain

Personally, I think this year will be rough due to O line inexperience for you guys. Look to our last year for a great example.

Moving forward, this will be McElwain's ultimate test of his career, in my opinion. Yes, he did a great job at CSU... but looking at the level of competition, I'm holding judgment until I see what he does as a HC against SEC competition, and not just a coordinator. CSU beat nobody I don't think UT could've beaten last year, and lost to a couple teams I think we'd have had a chance over. Time will tell.

He's going to have to recruit better. A lot of the high rated Muschamp recruits will soon be gone. A good portion of the Players that Florida took in last years class and have taken in this years class thus far aren't up to Florida's standards.

I'm confused by this comment. Do you mean the last, first year UF coach to lose to us was Spurrier? Since Zook, Urban and Muschamp all beat us their first year I assume that's what you meant.

Saw on the news two players got in trouble for walking out if a bowling alley without paying. Wonder what the new coach will do? I'm not judging them, they probably thought it was their only shot at any type of bowling this year :)

Florida has plenty of talent just about everywhere except the offensive line. Depth is a problem too.

Talent on the offensive line is not the issue. Experience is the issue.

Returning Players:
David Sharpe - 4*, .9434 composite, 6'6, 355, Soph (anticipated starter)
Trip Thurman, - 3*, .8876 composite, 6'5, 313, RS Senior (anticipated starter)
Andrew Mike - 3*, .8767 composite, 6'6, 302, RS Fr (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation, could start)
Antonio Riles - 3*, .8753 composite, 6'4, 322 RS Soph (anticipated starter)
Cam Dillard - 3*, .8712 composite, 6'4, 308, RS Soph (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)
Travaris Dorsey - 3*, .8600 composite, 6'2, 318, RS Fr (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)
Kavaris Harkless - 3*, .8491 composite, 6'5, 300, RS Fr (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)

New players from 2015 Class:
Martez Ivey - 5* .9990 composite, 6'5, 302 (anticipated starter)
Tyler Jordan - 3* .8795 composite, 6'4, 292 (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation, could start)
Brandon Sandifer - 3* .8600 composite, 6'3, 357 (probable redshirt)
Richard Desir-Jones - 3*, .8382 composite, 6'4, 290 (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)
Frederick Johnson - 3*, .8330 composite, 6'6, 305 (probably redshirt)
Nick Buchanan - 3*, .8276 composite, 6'2, 285 (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)

Transfers
T.J. McCoy - 3*, .8202 composite, 6'1, 302 (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)
Mason Halter - 2x FCS AA, 6'6, 295, RS Senior (fighting for a spot in the 8 man rotation)

So the talent, size, and athleticism is there for the unit to be good. It's not like UF will be relying on scrubs and walk ons.

The issue will be experience. With good coaching, and some leadership from the experienced guys, this could actually be a good unit. It's not like UF has been so good at this position in the prior regime anyways. Starting fresh sounds good to me.

No, there is 0% chance that this is a "good unit" they will be very bad this year no matter what on the OL. This year's pain should set them up for a good OL in the years to come though.

Look for Florida OL to be as bad or worse than our OL last year.

You don't know what the heck you are talking about.

UT had two issues on the OL last year...

A lack of experience AND a lack of talent.

UF only has one of those issues.

I mean don't you follow your own team? A walkon was playing major minutes for Tennessee last year on the OL. The best guy they had on the team from a recruiting standpoint was a 4* interior lineman.

That's a big difference, between playing a walk on and starting a 5* guy at tackle, even if he is a freshman.

"Let’s be honest, the Tennessee offensive line was horrible in 2014.

The Vols ranked No. 118 in sacks allowed with a total of 42 and an average of 3.5 per game. Tennessee also ranked No. 124 in tackles for loss allowed, ahead of only Wake Forest with 97.

Entering the season, the Vols had zero returning starters in the trenches, so the groups’s struggles came as little surprise. However, the level of ineptitude shown by Tennessee’s o-line exceeded any lack of experience.

The Vols were dominated by opposing defenses and seemed incapable of providing any protection. Even FCS Chattanooga recorded five sacks against Tennessee during its Week 7 loss.

UF may be down this year at the position, but it won't be anywhere NEAR as bad as UT last season."
