So, when is the press conference?

Her style of play sounds like that of Terri Williams-Flornoy of Auburn who was fired. They had a great press, pressed for 40 minutes, and played a lot of players, but as good as that press was in the SEC great athletes can beat great presses which caused Coach Flo to get fired. That style of play failed badly in the SEC and I am not sure Danny Williams knows what SEC women's basketball is really like. Hell, Matthew Mitchell had what was called 40 Minutes of Dread and had to modify that to compete in the SEC consistently. Two highly experienced Power 5 D-1 coaches with the same philosophy Caldwell is bringing which led to modification my Mitchell to be able to compete and stay relevant in the SEC and coach Flo did not modify and ended up losing a lot of games and was fired. That statement, "I do think it will translate, or I wouldn't be here" comes from inexperience at this level (notice how quickly they stopped the press conference when asked if she may have to modify in the SEC to compete). I don't think she knows what she is in for in the SEC. We've seen this style plenty and it doesn't hold up and/or translate to the SEC because of the overall size, skill, and athleticism of SEC women's basketball players in this league. Sure hope we can get the top-tier recruits that want to play 12-15 minutes per game. I just don't know if they are out there. Today's generation might get over that in a big hurry.

ā€œKim, do you think your style of play will work at this level or do you think you might have to alter it somewhat?ā€ (paraphrase)

Kim: ā€œ I wouldnā€™t be here if I didnā€™t think we could be successful with our styleā€ (paraphrase) (stated with a steely eyed and blunt answer)

She has some grit, and some conviction. Good sign.

That was my favorite part.

John Adams sounds just as toadish in person as his snarky attempts at writing.

I loved it when she put him in his place, but she's made a media enemy for life. He thinks he's the smartest person in every room and won't stand for being slighted. Kim should watch her back around him.

So if she stays true to her system, she will be looking for lots of athletic mid size players that can all guard, shoot and dribble well that are high motor types. I think she knows she will need some size also in the post but those types will need to be rim runners like Stuelke from Iowa, and she obviously will try to stack shooters from the three for that system. Iā€™m not sure she will be able to run 90 second rotations in the SEC but maybe, itā€™s gonna be fun to watch.

We can focus on being optimistic toward Kim and enthused by her energy, and that's a positive outlook.

I'd hope that we can refrain from rehashing negative impressions of Kellie at this time. We hear every extreme from "Kellie is so stubborn and won't change" to "Kellie is unsure of herself." We've seen a lot of coaches have different reactions after disappointing outcomes: lashing out at the media, tantrums toward players, resigned acceptance, steely resolve, calm, tears, anger, profanity, you name it.

We don't know why Kellie was so emotional after the SC game. Could be a variety of reasons. And we do know that she said that she spent a good part of that night and next morning replaying the ending of the game.

But we also know that Kellie recounted the only time she saw Pat Summitt cry. Kellie said she came out of the locker room after a tough loss (probably the one that stopped the fourpeat) and saw Pat standing by herself in a hallway where she thought no one could see her. And Kellie said that Pat wasn't crying for herself but for her players.

That, coupled with what Kellie said at the presser about how badly she wanted that win for her players, is one possible explanation for the tears.

She certainly didn't sound unsure of herself on Vol Calls two nights later.

As for the second round loss, she may have known that it was the final game she'd represent her beloved alma mater as head coach and that she would soon be parting with her players.

Wise thoughts once again. On message boards, everyone is an expert on reading body language and facial expressions (i.e. they are generally completely off base). But I will commit the same fallacy. My misinterpretation is that her body language at the end of her last game signaled being totally exasperated at having another close call go against her. She had mentioned in a prior press conference her frustration on this matter. I don't believe she felt that "she was coaching for her job." She seems like she an in the moment person. I do think she wanted more for the team and Rickea especially (with whom she seemed to have a surrogate mom-daughter dynamic going). Kellie gave her best and in the end, the key decision maker, deemed "her best" was "not good enough." Kellie's era over and its Kim Caldwell time. As you suggest, let us embrace the future with respect for the past.

This also brings a huge question ona out her for meā€¦ what is her development like? I figure itā€™s pretty good but how will that translate. This thought excites me the most.

Maybe we see a top 25 at one time Kaiya re-emerge.. maybe Sarah and Tess will be able to dribble. Maybe maybe maybe so many thoughts.
That wonā€™t happen, the best option would be to transfer and bring in better players.

One of the strangest press conferences I have saw. Just a handful of questions. 1 mic drop. Then a bunch of people running around, getting the podium off stage as fast as possible, 3-4 pics in less than 30 seconds - bada boom bada bing and its over!

I thought I was at the local community theatre between acts trying to change the props. Not one thank you for coming, not a we will take 3 more questions, no talking to D White for a follow up, no talking to any current lady vols.

Kim understandably was nervous and a little awkward, but White had more deer in headlights look than she did. Awkward doesn't begin to encapsulate his remarks.

It will be passed off as ā€œbrilliantā€ by the casual fan, but for a long time Lady Vol fan, it was a lot of fluff and hot airā€¦. With a few subtle swipes at Kellie

Well she says thatā€™s the goal but it adjusts game by game situation by situation longest Iā€™ve seen in the 4 games Iā€™ve watched is about 4 mins
