So who do you hire?

Thank you for listing where these people currently coach. I, like 90% of the rest of us that are infuriated at the state of our womens program don't actually watch the sport so, good to know where the candidates are coming from

Lol. There are a lot of scared fans and athletic directors at top schools right now and there should be. It’s easy to say that a coach “won’t leave”, “is happy”, etc but trust and believe, there are some coaches at some big programs who are definitely keeping an eye on this situation. Money talks and to many of the coaches at these programs, Tennessee has always been a dream job. Any time a school can not sniff a final four in a decade and still haul in the number 1 recruiting class??? That says a lot about the NAME and not necessarily the recruiters. As I said WEEKS ago, I’ve heard they are going to break open the bank for a hire and that was over a month ago before shyt got real. The list of potential names I received in confidence is QUITE a list.

Many of the top coaches would at least LISTEN, if nothing more than to get their current schools to give them raises and all UT needs is a chance to pitch what they are offering. Somebody is going to accept the challenge. Hell, its an easy job to coach if you can actually coach...no real pressure to win (from the AD) , great fan base, etc. Look how long they allowed Holly to screw up? Lol. Hopefully those current schools have their checkbooks ready or there are going to be some REAL sad fans. Lololol. Holly’s firing could really shift women’s college basketball in a major way because if a coach of a top program is hired, then that program will have to try to throw money at another top coach to keep their program stable and so on and so forth...a real domino effect. IT could really be a mess, but good for us Lady Vol fans!

I have no idea if you actually know anything about such a list. But I do know that you are SPOT ON in your assessment of this program and the coach search. It's the perfect storm. Holly took away the "follow the legend" factor, has a decently stocked cupboard, and coaches KNOW they can land blue chip players all day long. All they have to do is coach them.

Condoleezza Rice. She was in the running for the Cleveland Browns Head Coaching job and removed her name. She might have her eye on this job.

I will preface this by saying that I have not watched a Lady Vols game in at least 10 years, so my input is probably not great. But, I will say that I have watched bits and pieces of Holly's postgame press conferences and she literally is the most incoherent person I have ever heard speak. I have yet to ever hear her talk actual X's and O's. With her monotone, rambling speeches and what appears to be just an overall lack of basketball IQ, maybe IQ in general, I know exactly why her players are uninspired and unmotivated.

The main thing is a proven head coach, something Holly never was. Not saying a assistant can't become a great head coach because they can, but it doesn't guarantee it either. We've seen 7 years of decline in almost every phase of the game. There many willing coaches that can coach circles around Holly, she has had ample time and is OUT of EXCUSES! She can't get it done, period. GBO!

Your nuts to not think a very good coach wouldn't come here. PLEASE, we brought the womens game into the 21st century. Plenty of tradition and championships and a good coach would have no problem at all recruiting here. Please, don't tell me you really don't think we can get a coach much much better than the one we have know. And yes we have all the resources to get back to the top, it's not like it's that high of a mountain that this program can't now reach. That's comical. GBO!

The question isn't whether UT can return to the top of WCBB. Of course they can. The question is can they get some of the elite coaches that are bandied about here - simply because it's UT calling.

My point is that WCBB has moved on since the passing of Coach Summitt. Other coaches have their successful programs that they have built and they are not going to jump at a chance to coach a struggling program simply because it's UT.

Currently Massey has UT ranked 50th in D1. That's a pretty high mountain.

1)Jeff Walz head coach Louisville
2)Katie Meier head coach Miami
3)Wes Moore head coach NCSU
4)Vic Schaefer head coach Miss State
5)Scott Rueck head coach Oregon State
6)Carol Owens Notre Dame associate head coach

Absolutely none of them! First choice a winner in everything she has done....Kara Lawson. Second, Kelly Jolly Harper, she has turned the programs around at Western Carolina and now at Missouri State. Her father was a high school basketball coach, she played for Pat Summit on 3 national championship teams, then as an assistant under Joe Chiampi at Auburn, then Wes Moore at UTC, then as head coach at Western Carolina, North Carolina State and their mess and now Missouri State and has rebuild it into a winner beating two top 25 teams this year. Bring her home. Let's get either one of them who are Lady Vols and played for Pat Summit.

Bottom line is UT can get a coach to get us back to the top, it has nothing to do with UT calling. It is the FACT that Tennessee is a brand name and has all the tools to get back to the top of womens college basketball. If you don't think there are quality coaches that wouldn't jump at the chance to come to Tennessee, I simply disagree with you. Any program in any sport that has won Championships and games at the level the Lady Vols have in the past is going to garner attention. There are coaches out there that have played at UT now in coaching that are better head coaches than Holly, there are better coaches at lesser programs that are better coaches that would flourish here, I never said the coach had to come from a so called elite school. But don't act like UT can't get a coach capable of winning at the highest levels, it can and I predict will when they do make the change. GBO!

My guess is Becky Hammon won't even consider the job if offered . She is a trailblazer. She was recently promoted to the top assistant coach with he Spurs. She is working with one of the best and most respected coaches in the NBA. She has also interviewed for HC jobs in the NBA. Why on earth would she leave all that she has earned and accomplished to coach the Lady Vols or any women college team! It's a huge step-down in a career. She is well respected within the NBA by. players and coaches. She is ONE of a kind at this moment. Her sights are on bigger things and I hope that doesn't change. She will not end her journey in the NBA anytime soon.

Why she has never been a head coach that i know of. why would you want to hire an unproven coach?
She knows the game. She can analyze the team. She is a clear communicator and gives great interviews. She would have the support of the community. " IDK " is not in her vocabulary. She inspires confidence. She is accomplished in several areas. She could draw in fans, new players, and money. But would Fulmer make it worth it?

You can't assume that the incoming class will still come to Tennessee when a coaching change is made. Coaching changes screw up recruiting classes regularly.
Any player or any fan who evaluates Hammon's resume will beg to come play for her-- Good college player- great in WNBA - Olympics- and Asst Coach for Spurs coaching and motivating men and one of the great NBA Coaches Popovich called her an unbelievably basketball mind

So Fulmer has to earn his money with this one. We all know Fulmer and Holly are friends and firing or asking Holly to resign is a huge decision for him. But, bigger yet, is who does he hire? The lady vol program is obviously steeped with history and needs a second "Summitt" like coach. So who is it that can legitimately bring the Lady Vols back to prominence? Who can make them competitive with Uconn, Baylor and ND? Who can make the SEC their stepping stone to the NCAA again?

I agree a change needs to be made, but if your Fulmer, who is the "magic bullet"?
Mark Campbell of Union University in Jackson, TN. He has a won-loss record of 586-90. Check him out here: Mark Campbell - Head Coach - Staff Directory - Union University Athletics

I would substitute Kelly Graves of Oregon for Carol Owens. No unproven associate or assistant coach, please.

We don't have to have a big name. There are great coaches, hungry, proven grinders out there. Remember that little Troy University team that came here year before last and scored all those points. Love their style. Check their social media all the time. Just saw a NCAA piece on them (Bracket Buster) Power 5 teams will be looking at her hard. They are #1 in the nation in rebounds and #5 in scoring 2 years in a row. She built that program from I think I read the bottom of the NCAA to tournament appearances. Grinder.

Wes Moore, Jeff Walz , or Vic Schafer - all have proven they are program builders. Any of these and the Lady Vols are back to top 10 in a year, top 5 in two years

Omg. These guys are on my dream list. Any one would get the job done but i personally love Coach Schafer. He is a really nice man.

#1 in the nation in rebounds and #5 in scoring because they don't play defense. They jack up 3 pointers like it's going out of style, do hockey style substitutions and they're whole game strategy is designed around getting the ball back as quickly as possible so they can jack up another 3. They rebound well because they know where the long rebounds off their 3-pt misses are probably going to go to from experience. This style of play can be entertaining, especially with skilled players, but the lack of defense would all but guarantee an early loss in the NCAAT and probably a bunch of other losses. Live by the 3, die by the 3. I'd prefer a coach that can instill good fundamentals on offense AND defense. Muffet does it, Jeff does it, Geno does it, Vic does it, Kim does it...Tennessee needs to join that club.

My realistic wishlist includes any of the coaches at Gonzaga, Marquette, Princeton, Florida State, Michigan or Drake.

None of Walz, Rueck, Schaefer, Mulkey or Frese would leave their programs to come to UT.

If we go for assistants, nab someone from ND or Shea Ralph.

I hope we avoid the LV coaching tree to be honest....didnt work out well this time with Holly. Love Lawson and I think shed be an incredible coach but she needs to prove her coaching ability first.
