So who do you hire?

My realistic wishlist includes any of the coaches at Gonzaga, Marquette, Princeton, Florida State, Michigan or Drake.

None of Walz, Rueck, Schaefer, Mulkey or Frese would leave their programs to come to UT.

If we go for assistants, nab someone from ND or Shea Ralph.

I hope we avoid the LV coaching tree to be honest....didnt work out well this time with Holly. Love Lawson and I think shed be an incredible coach but she needs to prove her coaching ability first.
Hire Katie Meier from Miami she's done a great job making Miami relevant. She would leave Miami for Tennessee in my opinion.

I would love to see what Cara Lawson could do!! About being unproven,we have a coach now that is still unproven.

Kyra Elzy is the only legitimate candidate of those three because she's associate head coach at Kentucky. Kara Lawson and Bridgette Gordon have never coached before.

I would go with Kara because she's very smart with the game, plus she's well known and TN will not pay her close to what Holly was making. I use "was" because in my mind she's already fired.

I will preface this by saying that I have not watched a Lady Vols game in at least 10 years, so my input is probably not great. But, I will say that I have watched bits and pieces of Holly's postgame press conferences and she literally is the most incoherent person I have ever heard speak. I have yet to ever hear her talk actual X's and O's. With her monotone, rambling speeches and what appears to be just an overall lack of basketball IQ, maybe IQ in general, I know exactly why her players are uninspired and unmotivated.
Thank you so much for saying that! My sentiments exactly!

1)Jeff Walz head coach Louisville
2)Katie Meier head coach Miami
3)Wes Moore head coach NCSU
4)Vic Schaefer head coach Miss State
5)Scott Rueck head coach Oregon State
6)Carol Owens Notre Dame associate head coach

This is a great list. The problem is convincing these coaches to leave a good situation at their schools to take over a storied, but floundering program. Hopefully there will be at least one big name coach willing to take a chance at reviving one of, if not the best, women's basketball program of all time.

IIRC Lawson is currently coaching 3 v 3 national team or some such. The game would require a real emphasis on fundamentals, but not necessarily prepare her for P5 WCBB.

Bottom line is UT can get a coach to get us back to the top, it has nothing to do with UT calling. It is the FACT that Tennessee is a brand name and has all the tools to get back to the top of womens college basketball. If you don't think there are quality coaches that wouldn't jump at the chance to come to Tennessee, I simply disagree with you. Any program in any sport that has won Championships and games at the level the Lady Vols have in the past is going to garner attention. There are coaches out there that have played at UT now in coaching that are better head coaches than Holly, there are better coaches at lesser programs that are better coaches that would flourish here, I never said the coach had to come from a so called elite school. But don't act like UT can't get a coach capable of winning at the highest levels, it can and I predict will when they do make the change. GBO!
This was said about the last four head football coaches we hired. Was said by many with orange colored glasses, “we can hire almost anyone we want”. How’s that worked out?

Keep this in mind! All these players chose Holly to be their coach! They watched lots of games probably attended workouts and they saw her and her teams in action and they still chose Holly!! Be careful what you wish for if these players wanted a coach that pushed and challenged their players on a daily basis for greatness they would have went somewhere else!

Tyler Summit. He’s learned his lesson, and Tennessee’s roster doesn’t have any attractive players so he won’t be tempted.

Absolutely none of them! First choice a winner in everything she has done....Kara Lawson. Second, Kelly Jolly Harper, she has turned the programs around at Western Carolina and now at Missouri State. Her father was a high school basketball coach, she played for Pat Summit on 3 national championship teams, then as an assistant under Joe Chiampi at Auburn, then Wes Moore at UTC, then as head coach at Western Carolina, North Carolina State and their mess and now Missouri State and has rebuild it into a winner beating two top 25 teams this year. Bring her home. Let's get either one of them who are Lady Vols and played for Pat Summit.
Sounds like Kelly Jolly Harper already has a fine coaching resume.

Any player or any fan who evaluates Hammon's resume will beg to come play for her-- Good college player- great in WNBA - Olympics- and Asst Coach for Spurs coaching and motivating men and one of the great NBA Coaches Popovich called her an unbelievably basketball mind

And that is why Becky won't leave the NBA. She was just promoted to the top assistant coach position with the Spurs. She has also interviewed for 2 or more HC openings. She has become a woman to look up to for all young girls. She has acted as the head coach in the Summer league and I believe they won the champ. I can't see her leaving the NBA she has done a lot of firsts for women and I am sure she realizes she isn't done. She has worked her ass off to get where she is and has the respect of the players and other caches. I don't see her moving a step down to coach college .I am rooting for her to become the first female HC. And that is not far fetched.

My first call is to Baton Rouge. "Hello Nikki Caldwell Vargas, wanna come home and hang another banner?"

For the love of God why the F does she keep coming up???

She has lost every big time recruit in Louisiana to other schools—including Tulane. Further she is probably going to be fired if LSU misses the tournament.

But sure go ahead. That would be such a Tennessee move.

Usually a lurker, but wanted to post this in case anyone was interested. This is no way an endorsement for or against, just information for those that might not know that she does have coaching experience; albeit it's 3 on 3, but the point being she does have some and she keeps an open mind for future opportunities for different things.

Well, the first hire Jeff Walz thread of the day. Jeff is very happy and well compensated at U of L. What makes everyone so sure that he would jump at the chance to coach UT? I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

:) Man if this happens you and your board are gonna go nuts. Coach Walz is the number 1 Choice and he will be interviewed? Wanna lay a small bet on this Mr Cardinal?
