So who do you hire?

Keep this in mind! All these players chose Holly to be their coach! They watched lots of games probably attended workouts and they saw her and her teams in action and they still chose Holly!! Be careful what you wish for if these players wanted a coach that pushed and challenged their players on a daily basis for greatness they would have went somewhere else!

If this were to be true, it would be the worst indictment on Holly and the players I have heard yet. And if it were true, then what difference would it make if the players leave or not? Nothing will ever happen here unless we have a coach that challenges players to get better. You have just provided one of the best reasons to get rid of Holly by anyone on this forum.

Whew! You are so right. The thought of someone choosing to come to Tennessee because she thought it would be easier and less demanding, is truly alarming.

That said, I don’t believe for one second that anyone on our roster made her decision for that reason. There are plenty of reasons athletes could choose to play for Holly, not the least of which is they probably see themselves as future heroines who stepped in and got the program to the top again. Afterall, every press conference with Lady Vol players and coaches lay all the blame for losses on the players, so of COURSE it would be attractive to think that “Well, that sure won’t be ME! I’d NEVER have to say in a press conference that I just didn’t play with enough energy and focus! I’ll go there and show them how to get it done!”

Also, Holly’s responsibilities as head coach in the areas of maintaining academic excellence, outstanding community involvement, and guaranteeing EVERY student who plays for her graduates, are 100% as reliable as they were under Pat. A student-athlete and her parents can rest easy that Holly will see to it that they leave Knoxville with a degree and an appreciation for community outreach.

If Holly had a head coach’s intellect she’d be a coach anyone would want to play for.

1)Jeff Walz head coach Louisville
2)Katie Meier head coach Miami
3)Wes Moore head coach NCSU
4)Vic Schaefer head coach Miss State
5)Scott Rueck head coach Oregon State
6)Carol Owens Notre Dame associate head coach
if we are making a list of who would be better than what we have now ----

1) My neighbor's cat

Brenda Frese would be my # 1 choice as well! She is spunky, accountable, and can actually coach.

WOW. 26-0 thus far. Impressive- it's hard to get 26 individuals to agree on anything. Let's see how far this streak can go!

Should have made three options:
  • Fire now
  • Fire after season ends
  • Don't fire
I can't support firing a coach before the season ends except in extreme circumstances (criminal charges, ethics issues, etc.).

But do think she should be let go after the season ends (unless something miraculous happens).

Maybe not experience as a coach, but every other kind you can think up. I personally think she has the ability, when she breaks down players and games (before during and after) the woman knows basketball. Now, for me all she has to prove is can she pass on what she knows to players. I think she can. For her the key will be her support staff. If they have experience on the "front line", then that will be a tremendous help in learning to "coach" what she knows and I think, what she can become.

I'm not advocating for Kara. But I wouldn't be upset if she was hired. I remember back when she played, Pat referred to her as having a coach on the court, that it was like she was out there playing again.

Lol, exactly, they knew coming in it would be a gravy train. Easy life. No pressure because the coach is a pushover. We may need to purge the roster and the coaches to get this fixed.

I have to say, I think you are dead wrong about this. Go back in the archives and read all the stories about the players and their thoughts on being Lady Vols after they arrive on campus as freshmen, or those interviews from when they each signed. I’ll guarantee you’ll never read a single quote that indicated that they were going to be anything other than willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.

No, whatever changes happening to them that make them sometimes appear like they don’t care, are changes due to the gradual, inevitable deterioration of their confidence that eventually grips them all.

Please stop saying untrue things that do more harm than good. These players don’t deserve to be slandered by a bunch of anonymous bored adults. 😡

When Holly is canned I don't want any of her coaching staff anywhere near the Tennessee women's basketball program.

People close to the program have had nothing but the highest praises for Sharrona Reaves. And since this is only the first year for B.Gordon, I’m hesitant to blame her for the deep, years-in-the-making systemic weaknesses.

But all this is irrelevant anyway, ‘cause the new head coach is definitely going to want a completely clean slate to start with! But dang... Reaves will be missed.

What do they deserve, to be coddled by you as well. Holly hasn't done anything to prove otherwise.

The truth. Every recruit, every player says how they want to compete, how they want to accomplish this and that. Freaking Nuke Laloosh finally figured out interviews. Taking their words over their actions is your problem, not mine. Me, thinking that they, after seeing practices, talking to the other girls and finding out that Holly is a pushover is simply drawing a hypothetical answer to why these top talented girls have came here, only to underwhelm with their play. Holly implying that it's because "these kids today" is BS. Other coaches are able to thrive, while she, and the players do not.

Conclusion.

Either:
Holly is absolutely horrible and it's entirely on her fault. Possible.
Holly is horrible and it's a mix of players and her inabilities. Probable.
Holly is actually good and it's all the players fault. Improbable.

Pick your choice because it's that simple. If the players have this lackadaisical attitude, a new coach will see it and not want it. Ask Pruitt about keeping those types around.

I appreciate your points, but I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on the players and their attitudes. Actually, I agree that sometimes they APPEAR to be lackadaisical, but I don’t think that’s actually what’s happening. It’s so much deeper than that.

It’s well past time for a new coaching staff. Though I kept my opinion to myself initially, I was among the group of people who knew from Day One that her hiring was a huge mistake. I hate it for Holly that it hasn’t worked for her personally, but I’m definitely more concerned about the program overall than I am about Holly’s pride being bruised.

Let’s see how the fan base feels.

The fan base wont have any input in this hire, and by some of the suggestions in this thread they need a better understanding of how this works( or judgement skills to hire a credible coach). My guess the next coach will be male.

One thing is for sure. We need a coach.
