So with Saban off the table, where does Texas look now?

Saban was rumored to have talked with the Browns last year. Is that a possibility again now that that position is open? Saban still does not have a buy out clause at Bama. Weird that the Browns opened that position up this quickly.

I have heard enough of Wycheck's take on the subject to feel confident saying his source is The Rant's coaching changes board.

Only someone with terrible concussionn issues would believe that Texas is going to offer a ten year contract, but they will pay the entire ten year's worth of salary if the coach quits after five. That's essentially a 20 million per year deal.
he certainly didn't name his source but made it sound as if it's someone he's personally talked with.

The only way I could figure it is if the escalator is tied to performance or it's just a way to get people to digest the numbers.

Footballscoop says Jimbo Fisher just signed extension. For 4.1 mil (this is less than Briles current Baylor deal).

The Scoop

Briles' son-in-law named RB COY also.

ESPN Central Texas saying reports out of Austin that Charlie Strong was interviewed today.

I can't believe that (according to reports) Frankilin has already interviewed for this job. I would not have thought Texas would consider him ready Texas.

It was probably a phone call to his agent. This guy is spreading JF's name like 8675309. No way JF gets a sit down before CS. Im gonna call CS to Texas within the week.

Edit: JF to Louisville....book it

Well with Mora and Briles turning Texas down it appears they are now in the same situation we were in when we fired Fulmer. Now they can't find a coach.

I still think Briles would pull a Saban if they make an offer. Charlie Strong is picking up steam on shaggybevo. My two guesses
1. Strong
2. Fisher

If I'm Texas, meaning if I have more money than sense, now that Saban has signed an extension, I go back after him.

That is the hire that would make the Texas admin appear competent and now there are some circumstances that might make the job more appealing to old St. Nick.

Here are the circumstances that might indicate that Saban would re-examine the job.
1) Now that Brown is officially out, and Texas appears to be striking out, it wouldn't appear that Nick stabbed Mack in the back and got him pushed out the door.
2) After last nights embarrassment, Saban has to look at his roster and see with A.J. and other experienced starters leaving, that next year might be a tougher road to hoe. He even had a quote (paraphrasing) how the culture at Bama had shifted late in the season and it will be tough to turn it around. It will be even tougher without strong senior leadership.
3) Saban has milked Bama for all they were willing to give, that is why I believe his agent would sign off on him taking the $7million deal if Texas was supposedly offering 10million. Now that Saban knows Bama is close to maxed out, if Texas offers more, he has to listen as a raise at Bama will probably require another national championship. With a playoff coming, and Saban's well documented ability to drop games that he should win (regardless of the crystal balls he has hoisted), continued success of that level at Bama is going to be exceedingly difficult. Is it better to start over with fresh expectations and more money, or watch your legacy die?

This would be easier for them if their "sources" didn't keep leaking to ESPN who they were interested in, resulting in said coaches receiving new contracts/extensions.

I would probably fire the AD already lol. He shouldn't really need a search committee. Also there's a story about how terrible he was as GM of the Trailblazers

Jameis Winston says he jokes with Jimbo Fisher about speculation the coach will leave Florida State for Texas, and says if it happens he'd want to go, too."

Espn lol

If I were Texas and just wanted a coach, I would get Petrino in a heartbeat. But I understand why they would pass on him.

I don't see Franklin as a fit there, and I would think they could do better, but he is a solid coach.

Or perhaps Texas is waiting for two coaches to finish up their respective seasons Monday night.

Not saying it definitely won't happen, but has a coach from, say a top 20 program historically, ever left when the program is riding high to go coach at another historically top program?

Johnny Majors to UT after winning NC at Pitt is the only one that even comes close that I can think of. Except, I don't think many people, if any at all, would consider Pitt a historically top program.

Not sure if anyone has had the type of money to throw around that Texas does.
