Some Thoughts on the UT BB season so far

Yeah, this is just like Buzz-ball. He had us in the top 10 all the time.

We beat MTSU by 21 and had control of the game throughout. We treated it as little more than a glorified practice and still easily won. The last few games haven't been as intense as a February game in Lexington, but no team can realisitically maintain the type of intensity you all seem to want for every game. That's just too many emotional peaks.

So, I'm not bothered at all if we aren't killing peolpe by 60 or tinkering with some lineups and giving some guys some rest, if that's what's needed. We're winning, in the top 10 and I'll wait to judge until we are meeting up with someone where we need to ratchet up the intensity.

How about:

"why bother with that whole effort thing? Going through the motions is just fine, especially when our squad has no room for improvement."

Looks like you'll be judging pretty darn soon then. We've got Memphis and Kansas coming up in the next month. Later on we've got to face Kentucky and Florida, twice.

All the top teams have talent, it's just squeezing the effort and hard work out of the players. And running a good offense of course...

1. I'm not sure I've seen such an experienced team still yet to reach its potential. It's still very early in this season, but it can be such a tease to see Hopson one night look like an NBA player, then Prince show he can dominate the next night, then Tatum look so much improved, then Wayne seemingly turn it on at will, but not that often.

2. The Purdue/Bama game really showed the difference between a top team and one trying to improve. Bama really struggled down the stretch and the big difference was defense. Purdue's defense was exceptional. I did come away, however, thinking the Vols would be one of the top 3-4 teams in the nation if we just had Senario Hillman on our team.

3. It's interesting how little we know about teams until January and February. Texas is #2 and has not really been tested in 8 games. They beat Pitt on a neutral floor, but so did Indiana. KY appears to have the best resume so far, but they haven't been tested in a true road game against a top 25 team yet. There's a lot of basketball to be played.

4. Our PG play continues to frustrate because it appears that we have a couple of guys with 2G mentality playing PG. Maze looks great when his 2G skills are on display, but it is extremely frustrating to watch him and goins go 1 on 3 sometimes when a pass to an open teammate is screaming to be made.

5. The Vols are in a good spot. Our only loss is to the cream of the Big 10 crop. Purdue may not lose until February. They may spend most of the season in the top 5. And we gave that game away. I'm interested to see how we play at USC. We seem to be sleep-walking against these mid-majors. If we take care of business, we could be sniffing the top 5 by the time Kansas comes to town.

6. Where do we need to improve. Scotty has got to find his groove. He can be the best player on the court most of the season. Tyler needs to find his perimeter game to open up everything else in his arsenal. Wayne needs to bring it every time he is on the floor and stay out of foul trouble. Our PGs and 2Gs need to play better with the ball in fast break. Hopson's ball-hog charge against MTSU is an example of missed opportunities that have happened too often.

7. It's good to see KY and FL having good years. That will only help the entire conference.

Trust me, USC wouldnt beat most mid majors.:good!:

Tennessee right now is at best a sweet 16 team. They need more chemistry which I thought would be there by now considering how long these guys have played together. I miss Tabb, and Hopson aint goin nowhere until his senior campaign is over IMO. Ware will be nice to see run the offense in a few years, Im tired of not having a true pg. Memphis is our next test. We better win that one or I have a feeling that a 8 or 9 seed is possible.

You obviously hate Jews.

That's funny. I don't share your hatred of everything BP or coach "tanning bed" as you like to call him. However, I feel like our team lacks discipline, and basketball IQ. Bruce's halfcourt offense is about as effective as deep frying a frozen turkey.

I just don't see an upgrade in coach out there for us right now. And please don't say Billy Clyde.

In this economy, 2 mil plus will buy you quite a coach. People aren't creative enough when thinking about who a given program could hire. Does anyone actually think Lawrence Frank or Eric Musselman couldn't win big in college?

I know USC isn't a good team and we should beat them by 20, but my point is that the team seems to be mailing it in, which makes it hard to judge them against these teams they don't want to be playing against. USC at least has a name that will get their attention. If it doesn't and we play a close game, we have more serious issues.

Yes, we need a new coach. I am very disappointed in 7-1 and #8 in the country. That crap just isn't acceptable. Who can we get for $2 million?

Great point. We've blazed a trail littered with the scalps of the mighty.

Agree with this. They will get a serious wakeup call against Kansas if things don't change.

I'd absolutely love for Lawrence Frank to come hear. That would be awesome.

Do you think Musselman would do a better job than CBP has so far? I don't know the answer to that and even if I had an answer, it would be pure speculation. However, there does seem to be something ALWAYS lacking in CBP teams.

Lawrence Frank...

Wow...

Assistant under O'Neill (who has done great things in the tournament himself compared to CBP right?) at UT in one of the most boring and awful time periods in our schools history.

Then went to Marquette where they were as successful as Pearl at UWM and no moreso.

Then in the NBA where he learned for a while and took over and had a great start to his coaching career. Then for 3 years he got worse and worse and worse until he was fired.

Sounds like a superstar to me. We should definitely fire CBP for a 39 year old who has never won a championship at any level college or pro.

Do I think Muss would have won at least 1 SEC title in four years? Yes.
