Some top grad transfers for UT to pursue

Position coaches didn’t care? I wish I had your blind faith. The truth is our roster lacks talent regardless of who the coach is

I gave my opinion you gave yours. You called it truth but it's still just yer opinion. I think we have more talent than you are giving credit for. Are we where we need to be? No. Will a grad transfer get us there? I have doubts about that. The only ones I could see helping much are the ol. As far as the assistant coaching last year, to me they did not seem very interested or invested any more. Jmo.

Those QBs are horrendous.

Just wait till you see JG and McBride in this offense. Actually I think JG might be o.k. based on talent alone. McB is a square peg in a round hole. If we don't get a grad transfer JT will be QB #2 and McB will be transferring ASAP...book it!

I know the signing day was a little underwhelming for some fans but here are some available players who I believe could provide immediate impact or be quality rotation players in 2018- all just my opinion. I’m sure this list is subject to change. Anyway here are some guys right now in no particular order:

QB: Keller Chryst (Stanford), Wilton Speight (Michigan)
RB: CJ Fuller (Clemson), Tre Watson (California), Winston Dimel (Kansas State)
WR: CJ Sanders (Notre Dame), Raelon Singleton (Utah)
TE: Ian Bunting (Michigan), Kano Dillon (USF)
OL: Calvin Anderson (Rice), Kevin Feder (Ohio State)
DL: Sterling Johnson (Clemson), Jabril Robinson (Clemson)
LB: Ricky DeBerry (Oklahoma), Jahvoni Simmons (Virginia), Brannon Berry (Illinois State)
DB: Juwan Dowels (Syracuse), Khalil Oliver (Oregon), Kiy Hester (Rutgers), Zeke Walker (Indiana)
ST: Alim Muhammad (Holy Cross)

WRs:

C J Sanders 5-8, 181 - he better be real fast! Vandy looking at him.
Raelon Singleton 6-3, 205 - leaving Utah for "family reasons" - to be close to his family in Texas? If not, looks like a potential take.

In case anyone wondered QB Cryst isn’t being looked at according to somebody last night. Simonton maybe?

You named a lot of bodies. All of which have accomplished nothing so far despite horrible corner play last season.

You could say that pretty much the entire team is just a bunch of bodies at this point.

Have any of the grad transfer CB's accomplished anything so far. That list looks like a bunch of guys who weren't good enough at their old school. I'd rather see what our current guys can do with new coaches than waste a scholly on a 1 year grad transfer. Way I look at it is we have what looks to be a vastly improved coaching staff over last year so our whole team is like a grad transfer. I'm not gonna judge any of them to harshly on last years results. I really think most of the assistant coaches gave up on last season before the season even started. Hard for kids to develop when their position coaches don't seem to care.

Agreed, I would only bring in someone if we are in danger of not hitting our 25 limit for year. Makes no sense to only sign 22 guys if we have 3 spots available, at least that is my understanding you can't roll those spot to the next year. Again I might be wrong in this line of thought, but that is how I thought that it worked now.

I think Hester and Walker could break the DB rotation but one can only speculate if they’ll fit the new system. I’m banking on a better defense this year but we need more competition in the secondary esp if 2 of this year’s recruits choose baseball.

Winston Dimel was an all conference FB at Kansas State. Not much chance we run a scheme with a FB but he could line up as a blocking TE. I agree it’s a reach but he’s a good football player.

You’re not going to get somebody on defense that doesn’t know the system. So unless they came from Bama, UGA, FSU, or somewhat Florida or South Carolina, odds are they won’t help.

We need no QBs or RBs or TEs from the GradTransfer route. But both of those WRs listed are proven playmakers that would come in and make an impact right away. Especially Singleton from Utah - they made it a point to get the ball in his hands alot. And Sterling Johnson as a lane-clogging DT would be a good fit too. Even trying to get DeBerry at LB would add veteran depth in the middle with Kirkland Jr, and we dang sure need talented depth at LB considering injuries have wiped the whole group the last few seasons. Smh.

So I definitely vote to pursue WR-Singleton, and DT-Sterling Johnson, and LB-Rick DeBerry. Those 3 should 100% be pursued. Especially since we finished with a smaller class than we hoped for. And Zeke Walker - the DB outta Indiana - he's a solid, experienced player that I've seen play solidly against better talent. He's not a "stud", but he does check off most of the boxes across the board of being atleast slightly above average in most all categories. He'd be a solid depth rotation guy, that would fit well in our depleted secondary. He would come in and atleast push for 1 of the starting spots. We should definitely go hard after these 3 or 4. Fill a few more holes that we're thin on talent at. I really like the weapon Singleton would be tho.

Agree with your assessment and I’m glad you noticed Singleton. He’s a playmaker with NFL talent. But as you said he maybe a long shot or no shot. I would definitely make the phone call though.

Not sure if RB is a need and depending on the current scholarship numbers maybe there are other priorities it might not be feasible but CJ Fuller is a very good running back.

Started last season. He was very good against us in second game. Not sure if he was injured or someone else stood out later.

Get Feder and use him in goal line situations to push the QB into the endzone.

QB lines under center to take the snap, 6'9" FB/TE behind to secure the push into the endzone.

Also use him as a blocking TE mayhaps? Too big at 6'9"?

I like the idea of him as blocking TE, third OT in short yardage are situations

With the new rule going in effect where you don't have to sit out a year there will be recruiting year round so your big boys school's like bama it will hurt will level the playing field a little, these kids now days don't know what it means to earn a starting spot they think when they get on campus the job is there's this new rule will hurt football as we know it today there will be major turnover every year no way the NCAA can enforce the 25 .

His Dad was the OC or a position coach at K-State and took a HC or coordinator job somewhere, I remember hearing he was a lock to follow. Good football player though.

Check with the governor. Maybe he can pardon someone in the state prison who still has eligibility. Oops, Haslam won't do it.

When will we start hearing about these guys and is it safe to assume no grad transfer could particapate in Spring ball?

I would assume not until summer. And they aren't enrolled in spring so can't participate.
