Something we should be thankful for...

Good post. Its funny that everyone is trying to say their goodbyes.

When hes back next year there are going to be a lot of little boys that cried wolf.
Why are you so sure he's coming back? And saying it would have happened already if it was going to happen isn't evidence that he's coming back.

The premise of this thread has nothing to do with Bruce being fired or not being fired. It's an appreciation thread. The guy acting like I was insinuating that Pearl is out. Get it now?

Maybe Bruce should resign after the season to lighten the punishment and then rehired after punishment is dealt?
Resign and Re-sign!

The only way he gets fired at this point is if he gets a show cause from the NCAA, imo, and I don't see him getting one after all the sanctions he's already suffered. again, that is just my opinion.

More than evidence that he is coming back, it is evidence that MH isn't pulling the trigger on cutting him loose. The pr nightmare that was this season could have lasted a week if MH decides in September to ax CBP and let CTJ interim through this season he could have done two major things: 1) avoided continued scrutiny on the program and had a nice carrot to dangle in front of the NCAA so they don't hit us too hard with the stick 2) spend the entire season doing a very thorough search for the next head coach.

By not firing CBP in September, MH basically said pr nightmare and ncaa sanctions be damned, I have my coach. For him to back away from that now would be the worst possible result for UT hoops.

In sum, as long as CBP doesn't get a show cause, he will be the coach at UT. IMO.

Though I see some logic in this, I don't think I would list 'logical thinking' as one of MH's attributes.

I feel like we've been through this a thousand times, but by not firing him in September, MH was saying "how the hell am I supposed to find a coach in September?" If he's going to back away at some point, now is the ideal time.

Very good post by the OP. Who knows what the NCAA will do? However, I think if Bruce resigns or is fired directly after the season is over, the penalties from the AA will be far less than if he stays. The great majority of the allegations are directly at BP and staff rather than the school. I like Bruce and what he's done here, but the university and the program > BP. We've got the best attourney we could have representing us against the NCAA, but the AA is bipolar. Maybe if he hadn't had the bump incident 3/4 days after the press conference, I would feel better about trying to work through it with him staying, but I think the AA is looking at him kind of like they're looking at LK, and will be going for blood.

Does anybody know if this is really true? I posted in another thread that I don't believe this to be the case, but I could be wrong. If we were paying players or giving them A's in class, then maybe I see this, but for what he did I honestly don't think it matters whether he is here or not, the NCAA will do what it's going to do.

Anyone with legitimate insight on this?

I don't think they'll change what they're going to do, but I think some of the penalties will be person-directed rather than university-directed. So it hurts the school more if he stays just because the person-directed penalties are directed towards a person under the employ of the university.

Lys, I agree on the first three points, whole-heartedly. Pearl has put UT (for better AND for worse) in the media spotlight, and the facility upgrades have been significant. The #1/#2 Memphis/UT game a couple of years ago will forever remain one of the most anticipated and exciting moments in UT hoops history. His streak of tourney bids and the run to the E8 last year are fantastic accomplishments.

However, the penalties are yet to be seen, and there are gaping holes in recruiting. Those may combine to set us back at least a few years from real contention. Time will tell.

That is a huge problem.

Yes, and I think the only chance of resolving it quickly would be a very lucky streak of minimal 'AA sanctions and a homerun hire.

I don't know how lucky that would really be. I don't foresee the NCAA bringing the hammer down too hard on the school, just the coach. So if we get rid of him, all we really need is the homerun hire. Keeping my fingers crossed.

He's going to get a show cause and we aren't going to wait for him to get it.

I tried to balance out the positive and negative. I was furious about the possible sanctions then him turning around after a tearful press conference about breaking the rules, then breaking another rule.
