Somewhat off topic: Is it possible that Pig Howard

One play is not what "cost us the game." It is a contributing factor in a series of plays that result in a loss. Your argument is only valid if you place an equal amount of blame on other players for a false start, holding penalty, roughing the kicker, a missed block, running the wrong route etc. That's why they say tou win as a team and you lose as a team.

Ok, what if, on balance, the 2 teams are pretty equal. Score is 10-7... they makes good plays and some mistakes, UT executes some good plays and makes mistakes, but on balance everything is roughly equal.

Then, on a specific play, everyone on the offense does his job and the team scores... except Pig needlessly blocks a defensive player in the back, the TD is called back and the team can't overcome that one bad mistake and ultimately loses.

I know it's a team game and I agree that it's difficult to place blame for a loss solely on one play over the course of a game. There are many plays, many opportunities to win a game throughout the entire game. But you gotta admit that without Pig's penalty that TD stands and UT wins that game. Just food for thought.

The only game I remember a Foster fumble "costing" us was the bowl loss to Penn State, when he fumbled on the lone good potential scoring drive of the afternoon.

He fumbled in the end zone in a loss to Auburn one year, but that entire game was more on Jonathan Crompton than Foster. His fumble against Florida one year killed our comeback momentum, but it's hard to blame one fumble for a 59-20 loss.

That fumble-through-the-end-zone-is-a-turnover rule is an archaic technicality that needs to be changed.

How would you change it that makes more sense?

P.S.-The thing about that Penn State fumble is it turned the momentum of the game. I hated losing to Penn State.

He cost us a game? By making an extra effort against Goergia--and you think he did that on purpose? And because he got called for holding he cost us a game? Really? Are you serious?

I am often amazed at the ridiculous thoughts that some posters put on VN but this is a dumb as any I have seen.

Maybe give the offensive team the ball at the one, or give them the ball where the play started with a loss of down. There are a number of ways to fix it.

I like GAVOL's fix better because once the ball has broken the plane of the end zone but not in their possession I don't think you should give it back to the offense.

P.S.-Of course that wouldn't work in an overtime so guess how they do it is best solution.

Does this mean Pig is going to cost us at least three more games?

Amazing.

I just had to quote this in a post to make sure I wasn't imagining it. Kinda like the internet version of pinching yourself to make sure you're not dreaming.

There's just so many things about this question that scream "dumb@ss".

P.S.-I think Malzahn's just a great coach. To put the guy back there to run back was brilliant. Many would have stuffed the line to block.

It was definitely a smart move, but I wouldn't call it brilliant. Coaches have been doing this more and more often with abnormally long field goals.

This topic is Wow. Wow in that people who never played an organized sport are the ones who play the blame game. Wow in that not only did they think it but started a thread on it. Wow in that they actually justify the question. Wow.

Sorry folks, Pig is not very good. I Like J. Johnson better, And Vic Wharton will be much better

has the Arian Foster curse? I don't believe in bashing players and this isn't meant to bash and Pig is definitely a good player and asset to the team but you can arguably say he cost us two wins. I believe someone pointed out that Arian probably cost Tennessee five wins during his Tennessee career due to untimely fumbles. Does this mean Pig is going to cost us at least three more games?[/QUOTE

Pig is a VFL! The only thing Pig needs to work on is forearm strength.

Foster, fumbles for other monetary reasons.

So what you are saying is Chattanoogavol was just confirming what your dad already knew ? and after all these years nothing has changed.

you have no facts to back up your statement that Wharton will be better than Pig. Wharton may never see the field. you never know.
