SOTU Address

"It will be my objective to phase out social security" straight from his mouth.

It will phase out on its own. The program is still owed money from IOUs that may or may not be paid and the OASI Trust Fund is projected to be depleted by 2035. The pound of flesh the govt will extract from everyone, only to act like they’re “saving” Social Security will be even more brutal as these feckless swine in DC kick the can down the road.

If i remember correctly, the president of the United States at the time called for the firing of players who refused to salute a flag or partake in certain rituals.
You do remember correctly. I also remember no one with the power to do so took him seriously. Trump was fortunately ignored on his more ridiculous pronouncements

But how is the question. SS should be phased out so we need context to his comment before he can be called a liar.
The other half of the equation is that the people who want to phase it out want to replace it with something else. The Libs are ignoring that. It’s not like even the most extreme voices on the right are calling for there to no longer be any government provided/overseen retirement program. Intellectually dishonest IMHO

If they were intellectually honest they wouldn't be liberal.

It interests me that the taxes are only taken out of the lower incomes to fund SS, but once you cross a certain threshold it stops. Why is that?

I believe there is a max on payout. If the most you can get from SS is X no matter how much money you paid in why would it be fair to keep charging after a certain point?

I could be wrong.

You're probably right, but if they need to increase funding or cut SS, which one would you vote for? Hint, it's a trick question.

One would think that SS inheritance would be the correct thing. If you exceed your contribution you get no more. Just a lock box.

I would probably vote to cut it. Your old ass don't need the money........

Nobody wants to watch Slo Jo and his Cackling Ho!

President Joe Biden’s State of the Union (SOTU) address drew an underwhelming response from television viewers, with figures released Wednesday showing the second smallest audience in at least 30 years took the time to watch. AP reports the only smaller audience since 1993 was the 26.9 million who watched Biden’s address to Congress in 2021 — not officially a State of the Union speech, since he had just taken office a few months earlier.

Sets another historic record. Dang depressing hearing and watching him. Like an alternative universe with the lies

Raise the age and means test eventually. likely
Save for your future, invest your money wisely and do it, so you get 0% return from the massive amount of money sent to the government. Sounds like the fix they will come up with and make you feel good about by giving some little sliver of the pie to a few people.

It will definitely not make me feel good if it gets to that point. Theft is what it is and they will try to justify it as “ some people don’t need it”.

But I’ve been living a lifestyle and putting money towards retirement so that I will hopefully be just fine if social security isn’t there for me in 20+ years.

Did anyone else notice he called a “handgun” a “assault weapon”?

Not sure exactly why and what @hog88 responded with probably has something to do with it. I suspect they will raise that income limit substantially in the years to come as we inch closer to 2035 and raise the age limit to withdraw. No mention of why, but here are the current limits on income:
