Sour Grapes from Oregon

That is a good answer. So what do you think about the fact that the PAC 10 has 1 team (USC) with 1 BCS championship and the SEC has 3 teams (UT, FL, and LSU) combining for 5 BCS championships. :)

Again, it doesn't mean anything to me. I'm a Duck fan. Not a Pac-10 fan.

To me, people who switch from arguments about the team they like to arguments about the accomplishments of the entire conference (consisting of teams they hate) are defeated.

To put it another way, what do you think about the fact that 1-A football has all of the BCS championships and 1-AA has none? We're really kicking their butts, aren't we?! Go team!

Last 10 years:

Win/Loss record:

Oregon 86-38
UT 85-41

Strength of Schedule: I already demonstrated earlier in this thread that they have been comparable over the last 10 years.

Your argument: no factual basis.
Everybody is in a pissing contest here.

Fact is that Tennessee and Oregon have both been simply better than average over the last ten years.

The difference is that is probably the best Oregon will ever be, where as we can be (and might possibly be) on the road back to national prominence.

And for the record, I'm about as big of a Pac-10 fan as there is. With the exception of Tennessee, I loathe the rest of the SEC, and root for the Pac-10 in every non-conference game they play except against UT. I even root for USC in non-conf games, those bandwagoning Orange County snobs. I truly believe the Pac-10 is the 2nd best conference in the country when it comes to college football.

But all you have to do is watch the game. Stats don't mean as much. You can't really quantify anything in this game. If you want to take a look at some, bowl records and number of NFL players on active rosters by conference might be a good place to start.

The SEC is simply better than everyone else at college football. I won't quantify it with head-to-head records, on-field noise or any of that other garbage. There is simply an unfathomably larger amount of football talent produced around the Gulf Coast than anywhere else in the country, and that's the SEC's neck of the woods.

.....sorry but that would be like comparing the patriots super bowl wins to the Texas Rangers lack of world series titles

A mostly reasonable post. But, I disagree with this statement.

I would agree that UT has been better than Oregon before the last 10 years. But, I think Oregon has just as much chance to achieve national prominence now as UT.

IMO for UofO to pull that off, they would have to recruit at nearly the same level as USC, in USC's own backyard. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.

Since I was bored and had nothing else to do...

For the ACC claims of dominance by Wheaton

Combined record of the teams they beat for 17 wins (100-79)
5 of the 17 wins were against Vandy & ND, both 7-6 teams

Combined record of the teams they lost 14 games to (111-47)

Throw the ACC up against mediocre competition and they shine, much better competition and they wilt.

Yeah, they sound like the best conference. :birgits_giggle:

I really don't care that much about Tennessee. It's not my fault if your coach has no idea what he is talking about when threatening Urban Meyer

Easily my favorite post of the thread. You don't care much about Tennessee, yet you've taken it upon yourself to register on a Tennessee message board to educate all of the Tennessee fans about college football. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be here in the first place, and you certainly wouldn't have spent the last few days gracing us with your presence.

And your ignorance (confusing South Carolina and Florida) has nothing to do with what Lane Kiffin said about Urban Meyer.

Based on? UT came off one of it's worst seasons in school history, fired it's coach, hired a new coach and still smoked you in recruiting.

i really hope for oregon's sake that these two mouth-breathers are on the extreme radical side of the duck fan spectrum and don't represent the fan base or state as a whole...
Most Oregon fans don't have the presence of mind to have a major internet-based presence for their own team, let alone somebody elses.

The vast majority of them are only big time football fans on Saturdays in the fall. The rest of the year, they're just people with big O stickers in different colors on the rear window of their car.

Based on the success Kelly has achieved since he arrived at Oregon, already with many variations of players and wrenches thrown at him. This years class wasn't the highest Oregon has had stars wise. But, there were a number of great pick-ups at key positions. 2010 looks to be a huge class for Oregon. Possibly the best they have ever had. So, yeah, I think Oregon has as much of a chance as UT. The wide consensus seems to lean Oregon as well, given the pre-season rankings.

Wrong!!! You will never have a chance to beat us in anything as long as the Lane Train is here.:) And no one on here cares about Pre Season Rankings.

Were you stomping your feet as you typed that? :)

I hope you can make it to the OU game here in 2010 . If you;ve never been to Neyland Stadium ,it really is a good experience . Their are good fans and bad fans everywhere and you will see 99 % of vol fans are good people . GO VOLS !:)

I agree. I'm impressed that Vol fans are a good group over-all. As you say, every program has it's share of knuckleheads.

I will make it out there in '10 if I can (and if I can afford the purses and shoes needed to swing the deal with my wife).

Didn't know we were playing Oklahoma until the mid-2010's.:p

For next season, yes. It's going to take 2-3 years for UT to get back to what it's used to, no doubt about. However if and when we land a top notch qb a lot of problems will be fixed.

We need OL/DL too, but our D wasn't the issue last year. If we had a competent QB that could have gotten rid of the ball on time it would have help a ton with the OL issues.
