Sour Grapes from Oregon

Based on the success Kelly has achieved since he arrived at Oregon, already with many variations of players and wrenches thrown at him. This years class wasn't the highest Oregon has had stars wise. But, there were a number of great pick-ups at key positions. 2010 looks to be a huge class for Oregon. Possibly the best they have ever had. So, yeah, I think Oregon has as much of a chance as UT. The wide consensus seems to lean Oregon as well, given the pre-season rankings.

How many commits do you have as of now, and what indication do you have that leads you to believe you might crack the top 10?

At least going back to 2002 on Rivals you guys have never had a top 10 recruiting class.

Where do you guys get most of your recruits? Cali I'd assume.

Oh and it was good to see Terence Scott from Knoxville have a very nice season for you guys!

The odds are, Tennessee will end up with a higher ranked recruiting class next year than Oregon. So what does that say about chances being "equal" for the each team to have continued success?

the state of oregon produces almost zero div 1a players. eugene isn't exactly a prime destination either. i'd argue oregon has already topped out recruiting wise. they had some nice years when SC, Cal, and UCLA were in the toilet, but they just aren't going to outrecruit those 3 when they are competitive. if you look at the recruiting rankings the past 6 years you need to realize that oregon has far more guys not qualify than sc, cal or ucla. Their recruiting therefore has been around 4th in the pac-10. great for oregon certainly, but no where near where it needs to be to be an elite team.

I can't brag about a season in which we went 12-1 and obviously deserved a shot at the NC but instead Nebraska(who got the behinds handed to them by Colorado, who Oregon killed in fiesta) got killed in NC?

If you have done that lately, I'd love to hear

if nebraska wouldn't have been miami's punching bag, it would have been oregon. miami was a great team that year, oregon would have lost what probably would have been not a very close game.

Autzen is loud because of the fans. It was built before Knight was involved in supporting the program and architecture is not the reason. Though, I think that it's pretty amusing that someone who has been there thinks it was too loud to not have some technical reason behind it.

Again, we're flattered that other people think we're too loud to be humanly possible. There is no magic trick. Just intense fans.

PM me. I'll pay airfare and your ticket for the Oregon -UT game in Knoxville. That way you can see "intense fans."

Ask Tedford about the noise in Neyland.

I will make it out there in '10 if I can (and if I can afford the purses and shoes needed to swing the deal with my wife).

Yep, you gotta smooth things over with the woman, that's always the case in relation to football.

2010 will be a great game.

btw what a primitive message board over there in Duck country. That thing looks like it hasnt been updated since the words Akili Smith And NFL prospect were being thrown around.

Last 10 years guys Oregon 1 BCS win. Tennesse ZERO
....

Keyword: Since BCS era.

I can't take BCS seriously, sorry.

Pac-10 has been robbed numerous times out of either a BCS game or a BCS title game.

and yet you brag about going to bcs games. irony sucks.....

Good catch duckman.

BTW Ducky. If you want to talk about getting robbed, the PAC1's only BCS NC was the year that Auburn went 13-0. Talk about getting robbed.

For next season, yes. It's going to take 2-3 years for UT to get back to what it's used to, no doubt about. However if and when we land a top notch qb a lot of problems will be fixed.

There's always the x factor. The year Dixon had his break-out, everybody was thinking that QB was our biggest weakness. I made a push to improve our season tickets that year because I felt like expectations were lower than usual and seats would be available. So, I ended up with a front row view of Dixon going nuts.

Just saying that you guys could turn things around faster than 2-3 years in unexpected ways. I've seen it happen.

I think that a lot is dependent on success on the field this season, for both teams. If Oregon ends at or above pre-season rankings and UT doesn't improve more than 2-3 wins, I think Oregon ends up with a bigger class. Can't prove that point. I just think a lot rests on this season for each program.

It's true that the state of Oregon isn't much of a resource. But, the Ducks have built a lot of momentum getting recruits from beyond the West coast over the last few years. They're picking up guys from Florida, Kansas, Texas, etc. these days. Picked up a lot of the better recruits from the bay area this year, coincidentally.

Fortunately, she's a sports fan also. So, it's pretty easy most of the time. As long as I help watch the kids when her Syracuse basketball is on. :)

We have two 4* players right now for '10 and reportedly lead for a bunch of quality players. Are in the mix for a lot of the top 100 guys. How many we can hold on to depends on performance this season, imo.

Several do come from California. But, they've been having success in a lot of new states lately.

Scott turned out to have a great season. We were pretty light at WR. So, it was key for him to step up.

Just like pretty much everyone around here agrees UT would have been Miami's punching bag if we hadn't choked against LSU in the SECCG. In terms of NFL talent that '01 Miami team was probably the best team of this decade.

It's funny to me how all these Oregon fans throw out these "past 10 years" stats comparing themselves to other schools. It like the past 10 years is their entire football history (which it pretty much is). Most true "national powers" have been good for SEVERAL decades. It's not all that hard for a team to catch a conference during a down phase and have a good 5-10 year run. If Oregon can continue to sustain their success for a serious length of time then maybe they could be in a discussion like this some day, but not yet.

not saying that ut would have beaten miami, but i do think that ut could have given them a better game than either nebraska or oregon. just my 2 cents.

feldman's completely off base. what does oregon offer people from out of state exactly? superior education. nope. tradition. nope. location. nope.

as for bay area recruits tedford has never lost a bay area recruit he wanted to oregon, so don't expect that to change. and tedford has picked up quite a few nice talents from oregon.

Well UT finished 5-7 hired a new coach and finished recruiting ranked 10th and got the overall number one player.

Oregon finished with it's second best season ever and didn't finish in the top 25 in recruiting.

Interesting.
