Source: Tim Tebow named Broncos' starter

I think it's more PR-driven than anything. I can only imagine what would have happened to revenue had they unceremoniously cut him like they originally wanted to. Even though it's highly apparent to some that he's a good guy but just not a good quarterback, there are a whole lot of people out there that really, really like him to the point where they see past the bad play.

All Denver needed was for Orton to suck enough that they could start Tebow, prove over the course of a couple months how bad he is, then cut him and be able to justify to the fans.

I don't think you paid close enough attention to Alex Smith (since you seem to think he was only bad his rookie year). He was horrendous. In his first 30 starts (over 3 seasons) he threw for 155 ypg, 19 TD's, 31 INT's, 54%, and 5.9 YPA.

I highly doubt Tebow can match that level of dismal play. I don't know how in the hell Smith got 30 starts, and continued to get starts with that kind of play. It's unlikely that even Tebow will get that much opportunity if he continues to play poorly.

You are leaving out the part where he showed vast improvement in his second year over his first, and that is absolutely not debatable. Tebow hasn't improved at all.

That is, of course, not to mention that Alex Smith injured his shoulder early in his third year, came back and played three awful games with the shoulder injury and then had surgery that kept him out for most of the second half of the season and the entire next season. So far Tebow has been completely healthy, and he has still managed to look terrible aside from 5 minutes against the worst team in the league and against a godawful Raiders team last year.

You are leaving out the part where he showed vast declination in his third year*, and that is not debatable.

*48%, 131 ypg, 2 TD's, and 4 picks in 7 starts.

I said he was never that bad, I never said he never played that poorly. The game you mentioned, the Niners still nearly won, and Smith did not fumble a ball and throw and interception that were both returned for touchdowns. He also didn't get sacked 7 times.

He was also a rookie during his fifth start. Is it that hard to understand? I don't care what kind of offense Tebow came from, Smith came from the same offense in Utah and didn't have a year to adjust to the speed of the pro game. Tebow came from Florida, where he played against better and faster defenses than Smith did on a weekly basis, and then had a year to adjust. Please explain to me how those two starts are even comparable aside from both being the fifth start.

Because stats never lie.

I think it's fairly apparent that Tebow will be getting half a dozen or so starts this year so that the Denver front office can tell all the fans clamoring for him "See? Your guy sucks." and cut him or ship him.

i hope he goes to a team that actually wants him and does something with him, nobody can say the broncos are honestly giving him a real shot.

all i hear is about release points and holding on the ball too long, all things you can change.

going from college to the pros doesn't affect your accuracy,he had some bad throws because he faced the great D of the lions.all of his sacks weren't on him either.

all this is coming from a who hated him in college

They're not giving him an honest shot, but he's never going to make a good NFL QB. He's getting sacked by safeties coming from 8-10 yards deep for crying out loud. At best, he's a utility FB/slot/wildcat type of guy.

Yeah, he sat 9 games. He wasn't injured to start the season. In 3 games he went for 153 ypg, 51%, 1 TD, 1 INT. He got hurt week 4.

And what was the 49ers record in those three games?

Hell, I watched the Arizona game from start to finish, and Alex Smith simply won that game for them.

Now I know you are full of crap. It would be more accurate to say Matt Leinart probably won that game for the 49ers.

Smith put up 126 yards and no TD's on 31 attempts (48%), and he lost a fumble. His team scored 20 points, which he obviously wasn't responsible for. So how did he win this one for them?

The difference was the 49ers D played great. They forced 2 turnovers and won the field position battle. The 49ers scored 10 of their points off a total of 27 yards in 2 drives.

You should read that recap. You want to compare Smith to Tebow? It's all there for you.

And yes, despite looking like **** for most of that game, Smith stepped the hell up on the final drive to win the game.

So he played like garbage for 55 minutes against a bad opponent, and then put together a couple throws, and a decent run and won the game?

He's sounding more and more like Tebow all the time. You are validating my comparison.

Can he catch the ball? Teebs will never be a lifetime NFL QB, but I could see him being a FB or TE. If I had an athlete on my team who had a fight in him like Tebow does, I would find some way to utilize him.

Except he was better in almost every facet of the game from the time he took his first NFL snap.

And are you seriously comparing an 8-8 Cardinals team that was one year away from pushing the Steelers to the limit in the Super Bowl to this year's Dolphins? Do you even watch football?

It was Matt Leinart's Cardinals (he got 5 starts in 2007). They were 1 year and 1 HOF QB away from the SB.

even with Leinhart they weren't as bad as the Dolphins. Besides, he started or logged meaningful snaps in the first five games in which the Cardinals went 3-2. Those two losses were by a combined 6 points

I agree with that. But, they were bad. Which is all I said about them. Even Kurt Warner was only 5-6 that year as a starter. Leinart's win over Pittsburgh was huge and probably a fluke. Then his other 2 wins were Seattle and St Louis.

What I want to know is why the AFC West and the NFC West have been such poor divisions for like 5 straight years?

Something like that.

Something like that.

Misread the last question there. They have been bad mostly due to terrible front office work and bad coaching. Harbaugh is the best coach either division has seen in a while

Denver put Tebow in his old offense. It was successful and should have been done his first start, but Oakland also helped by starting Curry (lol). Orton lost at home against Oakland...just saying.

Tebow did a 180 this week. My bet is many of the haters don't visit this thread this week. He looked great. His accuracy needs improvement.
