South Carolina is about to take the attendance title away

I remember when Aja committed to South Carolina everyone on here was saying .." good luck playing in front of 3,000 fans when you could have played here with packed houses." I think that statement can be put to rest....at least for this year. I said before...we always loved our women's basketball, we just didn't go to the games...lol. Now we do....Staley put together a quality product.

Yes but as long as she keeps dominating the SEC, which considering the current state of the league is very likely, her job won't be in danger no matter how many times she falls short of the Final Four....

Since we've now finished second to Staley's team twice, one could argue that we aren't the dominant team now. And if SC makes the final 4 this year... whoa.

Considering Staley picked that program up from the absolute ****heap, their meteoric rise has to be the biggest story in the league post-Summitt. I think there is danger there for HW if we're looking up at SC again next season, coupled with a disappointing postseason.

looking up at USC? hah, who got farther in the NCAA tourney last year? who won the SEC tourney? who tied her at 15-1 this year?

For Holly to be looking up at USC she'd have to fall on her ass again. Otherwise she is eye to eye.

Once. They were tied with SC this year as SEC Co-Champions.

If you're going to base this on H2H, then Tennessee beat SC two out of three during Holly's tenure.

Lol! The same voters who left Andraya Carter off the All-Defensive team, but she leads the league in steals! Welch got Scholar athlete of the year, but Burdick is an Academic All-American! Are you serious? These awards are influenced by media hype and you know it. Based on the SEC Awards, Tennessee should finished at the bottom of the SEC. Media hype does wonders.

At least get your paranoid conspiracy theories straight. The SEC coaches voted on these awards, so you can blame them in this blatant attempt to stick it to Tennessee. Save the complaints about "media hype" (and I'm sure there will be many here) for when the AP SEC awards come out as they join the other 13 SEC coaches in trying to keep Tennessee down.... :detective:

Harrison's injury granted Holly a Final Four reprieve for this season, although I don't think they would have made it anyway. Assuming South Carolina keeps their 1 seed, you will have to seriously question Staley as a coach if she fails to reach the Final Four in consecutive years as the top seed. There is really no excuse for them not to be in Tampa....

As for next season, at this point I see it as a two team race again that could very well come down to the head to head matchup. Fortunately, that game will be back in Knoxville....

I'm not paranoid. I know exactly who voted for these awards. You can say what you want, but fans, coaches and so call experts get caught up in all the hype. How can you lead the league in steals and not even be on All-Defensive team? What about be an Academic All-American, but someone else get Scholar athlete of the year. I'm not saying South Carolina isn't good, but with all the hype you'll think they've been to back to back Final Fours. People are acting if they've left the Lady Vols in the dust, when SC really haven't done nothing the Lady Vols have done since Holly has taken over. Anyways, it is not a big deal. What happens on the court is what's matters the most. We'll see what happens this week. All the pressure will be on the "SEC Player Of The Year", "6th Woman Of The Year", "Freshman Of The Year", "Coach of the year" and the super Gamecocks.

Steals isn't the only defensive statistic for the guards. They also look at rebounds, among other things. Harper and Ballard are outstanding rebounders at the guard spot. Ballard also averages 3.1 steals per game, which is more than Andraya (she is #1 by virtue of the fact that she's played more games than Ballard).

Jordan Jones is the question mark, but she was also the DPOY, and in all honesty, the coaches see more of the players than we do.

The idea that Tennessee is getting snubbed by the SEC coaches is puzzling, considering that in the last 3 years they've had 1 CPOY, 1 COY, and 6 1st team All-SEC (with 2 of them: Bashaara in 2013 and Cierra in 2015 being additions to the pre-season team).

Other than Scholar Athlete and Ariel's omission (who admittedly exceeded expectations from pre-season), I don't think Tennessee got that shaft.

This season is the greatest season in the entire history of USC women's basketball. But, how many years can this success be maintained?

Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas A&M, and other teams in the SEC will not regress. All of them have damn good coaches.

Tennessee will regain the attendance title next season.

You could be right....I don't think anyone denies that the SEC will always have teams that are committed to winning. I know that a fan base (including Tennessee) will only be as good as the product on the floor. I think as long as we continue our success we have a good chance to unseat you guys in attendance and wins.....then again it has to be a long term thing and not a flash in the pan as so many other SEC teams have found out. Tennessee is still the standard of measure in the SEC.

Both teams lost in their respective regional semi-final games. They both were Sweet-Sixteen teams. But UT's game versus MD was at 12 pm Sunday March 30th, while USC's gm vs UNC tipped off at 7 pm also that Sunday. So UT was already out of the NCAAT when USC began it's game. :)

who won the SEC tourney?
Who won the Reg. Season title last season? Which one is regarded higher each season?
who tied her at 15-1 this year?
So USC has 1 outright reg. season title plus 1 shared title, and UT has 1 SECT title plus 1 shared reg. season title. USC and UT are 1-1 head-to-head both seasons. But USC has held the #1 SECT seed both seasons. Overall however any edge USC has over UT right now is slight at best. Win in the SECT, and the separation gets more substantial...

For Holly to be looking up at USC she'd have to fall on her ass again. Otherwise she is eye to eye.[/QUOTE]

They did today....

Lol! You are pitiful! I knew you would wait to see the outcome of the SEC Tourney before you made a comment. You haven't posted nothing in the last few days, but all of sudden you come out like a coward to now say something. We have just as much talent as South Carolina, but majority of our talent is sidelined with injury. If you love South Carolina so much, go be a fan and join their board. You pretend to like the Lady Vols, but really you don't want them to succeed. Yes, we struggled today, but to say South Carolina has surpassed Tennessee is wishful thinking when we played in the Championship game with a depleted and undersize roster. Let's see what happens when our roster is healthy and we have all weapons than you can make judgement. Until then do what you do best, continue to be a fake Lady Vol fan and point every little negative thing you can find.

I don't love South Carolina, but they have a better team this year and they ended any debate today. This is the same roster Holly took to Columbia.... you know that game the Lady Vols shoulda coulda woulda won? The game Holly took Dawn to the woodshed.... and still lost? Just wait until they play on a neutral court.....

Lol! Lady Vols did have a chance to win that game in Columbia. Your argument is that South Carolina has surpassed Tennesse as a program.Nobody never said SC wasn't good, but to say they have surpassed Tennessee is crazy. How can you make that judgement when Tennessee is playing with a very depleted roster with little depth. We struggled today, but you can clearly see the Lady Vols were out of gas and SC took advantage. You are the one on this board acting like you are an alumni of the University of South Carolina. Did you sing their praises when Kentucky beat them last week? BTW you said you don't love South Carolina, but you never said you were a Lady Vol fan either. The way you endorse Dawn and SC, but constantly point out every little negative thing about this program. Why even post on this board? Its one thing to discuss basketball, but it seems as if you clearly have an agenda. Do you ever give these coaches and players any credit? Tennessee is a top 5 program with a depleted roster, we'll see what happens with a completely healthy roster.

We were discussing Dawn vs. Holly in recruiting. I said then and still think USC has the more talented roster this year and proved it quite definitively today. More talent = better recruiter. I'm not arguing this is a symbolic passing of the torch, it is way to early for that.

You also notice Dawn has crazy depth at every position. You can complain about injuries all you want... but some of us noted many months ago that not landing a post for this class was an epic fail by Holly that would bite her in the butt. And guess what, we could very well be having this same discussion next year. Pat didn't make excuses, she got players. And when she had trouble should would venture outside the box (JUCO). If Holly is having trouble with injuries, maybe she should keep a deeper roster....

Tennessee and Holly Warlick will have the number 1 and number 2 ranked high school players in the nation on the court next season.

How is that for recruiting?

Those who are praising what they perceive to be Dawn Staley's superior recruiting abilities also seem to conveniently forget that she only signed one guard for 2015 (and not a highly ranked guard at that) and, as far as I know, has no verbals for 2016. A'ja Wilson chose to stay in-state, so that was a prize get for Staley, but it wasn't unexpected. I'm not convinced that Staley's stellar recruiting efforts had all that much to do with A'ja Wilson choosing South Carolina; I think Wilson wanted to be at South Carolina regardless, and the fact that USC is a program on the upswing just made her decision that much easier. Both of Holly's commits for 2015 are ranked far above the one player Dawn signed in that class. I realize Tennessee doesn't have any verbals -- yet -- for the class of 2016, but I think the staff is working exceptionally hard to land a post (or two) in that class and I believe there are also a number of highly ranked prospects in the 2017 class taking a hard look at Tennessee. Staley's got a great team right now and, barring catastrophe, they should be highly ranked and very competitive for the next few years, but she has yet to prove she can sustain that success through great recruiting. I certainly don't think anyone can make a reasonable case that she has out-recruited Holly. She landed the number one recruit in the 2014 class, but Holly got two top five recruits in the 2013 class (including the number one overall). . . actually, there are three in the 2013 class if you count Tucker, who I believe was also a top five recruit; a top five recruit in Nard for the 2014 class; and a top ten (or top five, depending on the ranking service) recruit who also happens to be an incredible scoring point guard for the 2015 class and who should absolutely be ranked within the top five of any service that doesn't already have her ranked that high.
