Spoke with a Cincy grad today

Hey guys this is not a CBJ bashing thread. I, for one, think he has done great his first few weeks on campus. I had lunch with a Cincy grad today and I ask his opinion on Jones. He said he thought Jones could get us to 8-9 wins a year but never contend for a championship. He also said UT would fire him within 5 years. Like I said I think he can do great things here he seems to really have a fire inside him that we haven't seen on The Hill in many years. The only reason I made this thread was to see if any of you had talked to other Cincy fans and see what they had to say.

Go Vols!

Of course not!!!!! Sounds like butthurt whinning by the Cissy fan! Op say it or don't,but never start a thread with "Hey guy's" sounds a bit womanly!!! GO VOLS!

Jesus Christ guys! I just wanted to see if you guys had spoke to anyone that had similar opinions or if they really hated to lose him. Y'all do realize the season is over and this is all we have to talk about. If you think the thread is useless remember this you don't have read or comment.

Lots of bitter azzholes on VN. Decent thread for the off-season. I spoke with a few Cinci fans that gave similar feedback that you got. They did say he wasn't as good as Brian Kelly. Who really knows though?

cincy fans will trash jones since he left for a better job. they'll do the same to tuberville when he leaves in 2-3 years

I like the Butch hire but don't understand this line of thinking. What has he done that's so great so far?
Other than get the former players involved in the program again and give a few motivational speeches, not much. You would think that the way some of the sunshine pumpers on here talk, he's already won 4 SEC titles.

Sounds like this Cincy grad is a Nostradamus wannabe.
Sounds like 90% of the posters on VN.

What people saw was that you were a huge tool that was trying to start a riot.....It was a dumb, pointless thread...Thanks.
Pretty much sums up all of your posts in this thread. You've done nothing but piss and moan about a simple question.

What has he done thats bad ?
It's not that he's done anything bad, but he hasn't done anything in the SEC yet and until he does, then there are those (myself included) that aren't going to crown him the next great thing in this conference.

8-9 wins and people are happy & think it's awesome? WTF?
I'll be more than happy to get to a 9 win season, but I damn sure won't be happy staying there. All of these people that say it will be awesome to have 8 & 9 win seasons every year will be the first ones predicting an SEC and NC the next season and then crying if it doesn't happen.

As for the OP, no I haven't talked to any Cincy grads or fans, but I'm sure most of them hated to see him leave. Hopefully his success in the MAC and Big East will carry over into the SEC, but I guess we'll find out in a couple of seasons.

You should be a defense attorney. The way the doo doo spews from your mouth defending moronic attention seeking posters. Good job.

I agree with your general point. Some fans are sensitive and may not react as well.

Go Vols!

they'll run tuberville out of town in 2-3 years after he loses a bunch of games or slaps another asst coach around on the sideline.

What puzzles me is why he went to Cincy. He had a good thing going at tech. I would think he would have a hard time getting recruits as opposed to Texas. Just guessing.

I am currently a student at Cincinnati but I am a Vol fan at heart. CBJ has the passion to be a great coach at UT. Everyone at Cincy loved him. He reminds me a lot of Bruce Pearl only minus the whole recruiting violations. I am very excited to see what he will do at UT

My Son-In-Law is from Cincinnati. He graduated from UD. However, his Father works with a lot of High School players in the summer. I was able to talk to him at Christmas, he said many people in the Cincinnati area were glad CBJ was gone. They also say they are happy with Tuberville being there. He said many recruits didn't like CBJ's approach, and that's why many Cincy recruits went elsewhere(he mentioned Louisville, Rutgers, Ohio State, Miami, and OU), just to name a few. He also said, from an X's and O's standpoint, he feels Jones is legit, But recruiting wise was not real good. Then also mentioned, a lot of talent Cincy had was Brian Kelly's recruits, which was a good base for Jones to start with......He didn't think Dooley's talent is as good for the SEC and thinks Jones will fall flat on his face. I just simply replied, I hope your wrong!! He does have a vast knowledge of the game, he works with OL/DL at summer camps and was a taxi-squad player for 4 years in the 70's with the Oilers and Cowboys as a DB. I was going to start a thread with this back in December, but many would just make fun of me for doing so.....so I just let it go. I personally hope the guy is wrong, he is a great person, fun to be around, and to be honest, CBJ was one of the few people I have ever heard him say anything negative about. This is just whit I heard from somebody who has a little insight to the Cincy area.....take for what it's worth......I'm supporting the Vols and the hire no matter what!! Go Vols!!

Makes me wonder why UT AD didn't seek advice from the Cincy grad before making the hire. :snoring:
