Spoke with a Cincy grad today

Hey guys this is not a CBJ bashing thread. I, for one, think he has done great his first few weeks on campus. I had lunch with a Cincy grad today and I ask his opinion on Jones. He said he thought Jones could get us to 8-9 wins a year but never contend for a championship. He also said UT would fire him within 5 years. Like I said I think he can do great things here he seems to really have a fire inside him that we haven't seen on The Hill in many years. The only reason I made this thread was to see if any of you had talked to other Cincy fans and see what they had to say.

Go Vols!

Well whoooopty doo.

I dont know any cincy fans but I have heard good things about CBJ. 8-9 wins isnt the greatest but it is quite a bit better than now..also 9 wins means we have at least beat 1 decent sec team... Thats something that hasnt happened in a long time. eventually you should expect more but you have to get to that point first though.

Butch Jones has been a winner at both of his two stops. That demonstrates he has some ability. He has done it with teams that probably rated somewhere in the middle of his conferences in talent. That suggests he has some ability.

But there is really NOTHING outside of the SEC that can predict what a coach will do inside the SEC. Les Miles really wasn't all that special at OSU. Saban was mediocre at MSU. Even a proven coach like Spurrier took more than 5 years to turn USCe around. Sumlin actually looks better than he did at Houston. He's probably working with more talent than he ever had though it probably isn't top tier in the SEC.

This Cincy grad has two holes in his argument because we ALL HAVE THOSE same holes. We do not know if he will get enough of the right kind of players to win anything. We also do not know how his coaching skills translate from winning in the MAC and BE to winning in the SEC. He apparently assumes the differences between the SEC's coaches and talent when compared to the rest of CFB are much less than they are. Jone can either handle it or he can't. Only time will tell.

This is based on what exactly? The act of attending Cincy makes one a veritable football Nostradamus now?

I read a thread today and wasted 10 minuites of my time. Move on nothing to see here but some random cincy grad's opintion. Personally I will wait to see the product on the field anything other than that is an opinion.

My God, 8-9 wins a year would be excellent....look at the past 4 years....returning to the 90's is most likely not going to happen....fact is we have 5 SEC wins in last 3 years........I have tempered my expectations due to a hard dose of reality.....

to win big, jones needs to figure a way to beat saban, muschamp, spurrier and richt. If he can win 3 of those 4 games, he can win the SEC east. Hopefully he gets it done soon.

Seriously, how is there a thread dedicated to this. I come here looking for news and information, and could honestly not care less about what one kid who graduated from Cincy thinks.

Jesus Christ guys! I just wanted to see if you guys had spoke to anyone that had similar opinions or if they really hated to lose him. Y'all do realize the season is over and this is all we have to talk about. If you think the thread is useless remember this you don't have read or comment.

Not bashing you, but really, this is VN--what did you really expect when you submitted the post? :salute:

8-9 wins and people are happy & think it's awesome? WTF?

I think the quote was suppose to be progressing. 8-9-10-11-12-13-14! Meaning 8 in 2013, 9 in 2014, 10 in 2015, 11 in 2016, 12 in 2017, 13 in 2018, & 14 in 2019. NC's in the last 2! IMO....

So Butch Jones got his mid-tier team to a BCS game... and he now knows that Coach Jones can't win an SEC Championship? Last time I checked... The last coach to get Cinci to the BCS (Brian Kelly) coached his new team to the National Title Game.

Unfair comparison since everyone and his brother knows ND had no business in the NCG. ND just experienced a 'Perfect Storm" in their schedule TY. Probably not even a top 10 team.

Great thread! I really wanted to know what a cincy grad thinks about a coach that left their program. He probably would of said the same thing about Kelly.

ND shouldn't have even been in the title game---they lucked out with a gift win against pitt in OT then got steamrolled by alabama. Oregon would have been a better match, although alabama would have beat them easy also.

Thanks, dad. So do you really find it that unacceptable to ask someone's opinion of our new coach? He didn't say he wouldn't support him either way, just wanted to know what they thought about him. I swear that some of you guys stay on here just to look for something that you can bi*ch about.

Bi*ch..........spoke to one of them today too
show some respect and call her a Vols Bi*ch

I talked to a graduate from Dooley's old school three years ago and asked him what he thought. He said Dooley would probably win about five games a year and average one SEC win. He said he would bring in tons of talent but not do anything with it. I called this fool a damn liar and told him to go to hell. (Wait that's a bad example)
