I am excited also. I've been looking forward to completed product of Mack Crowder since we signed him. I'm very glad he's under Mahoney. He really fits our scheme.

This could be one of the biggest impacts on the overall offense if for no other reason because the speed of the delivery of the snap is notably improved. Adding another 1/4 second to the snap delivery from the Center to the QB will allow the play to begin faster - mark it down - timing will improve - RB's will hit holes faster - delivery of the ball from the QB will be improved as well because he will have 1/4 second more to his timing. This is really a BIG DEAL.

It's expected that some 'nasty' play will also spread across the front five.

Don't get me started...it would be epic if this OL started dictating the game flow Blair,Jackson,Crowder and?....TBD...WHO WANTS IT?!?

I will say that Moseley and Payne both looked quick my goodness....refreshing to see that after the last few secondary's have been slower than molasses

point noted. so if the speed of the snap increases by 1/4 second then here's some math. an RB turns a 40 yard speed of 4.5secs lets just say. at each second interval that's 8.88 yards per second (40yds/4.5secs). So 8.88 yards per second is 2.22 yards per every 1/4 second. Let's say then at the starting point of a run, your slowest point in your run, you only travel at 25% of your overall speed/distance THEN 2.22 yards per every 1/4 second @ 25% is .55 yards in the first 1/4 second. DOES THIS MEAN EACH PLAY COULD BE .55 yards developed faster than each of last year's plays? If so, that's an improvement of 1/2 yard. :good!:

CP never did learn the plays, but heck, he didn't have to. CP, go long. CP, here is the ball, RUN!
Iirc CP didnt have the benefit of spring practice. However, Hinshaw and others had quotes about his explosiveness during fall. If VP is in the same realm as CP we're in for a treat. I am not going to expect too much out of the young man early on...CP is really not a fair comparison, I'd take a Denarious Moore type player and be extremely pleased.

That's huge improvement from a small thing.

It's too early...:focus:

I think I saw a bit too much belly fat on our OL folks, especially noticed #63.

Hurd didn’t look as big as it was made to sound on VN.

I agree with both of these...

The one lineman I noticed in the videos I watched who had "Dunlap's Disease" was #63. However, most of the others looked to be in great shape... most noticeably Kerbyson.

I explained to everyone in a couple of threads that Hurd's size was exaggerated in recent photos because he was standing at the edge of a photo taken with a wide-angle lens. It horizontally stretched his left arm/bicep to make it look much bigger than reality. He's a stout looking kid but not hercules-looking stout.

Dobbs with a little zip on those passes in the first video. It just sucks that if there was a Vanderbilt defender practicing with us it would have gone straight to him......

Ok sorry sorry..... Haterade poured out. There may be hope for Dobbs yet. Good to see. He's definitely put on size too.

For freakin cryin out loud. Jeez.

All else being equal, it mean he could get to the hole 1/4 second quicker. 1/4 second the defender doesn't have to shed a block and stop him, possibly? Which means he may be into a spread secondary? So, 1/2 yard benefit or a 25 yard run?

Completely agree! Last season it was really frustrating to watch as Stone continually snapped the ball slowly. Instead of a straight bullet snap back to the QB, it fluttered on an arc. It really did give the defense an advantage off the initial snap of the ball before our play could really get started.

Just as the team was operating in top form, so was VN. This has been the best coverage I have ever seen on VN. Congratulations to Freak and all the contributors. Can't wait for each day's reports.

He looks fast in a photo?

I know, I know, sounds goofy. Hard to explain, though. Perhaps it's just that he's in motion in most pictures taken of him and not standing around with hands on hips. But in almost every picture I've seen of him so far, he appears to be going somewhere and going there in a hurry. I think early practice reports about his playmaking skills are confirming that. I look forward to his development.

Regarding Hurd's size, he may not have the "look" either of us expected, presumed, or whatever. But keep in mind I said his frame is more like bronc and bull riders in rodeos. The weight is proportionally distributed on them. They're heavier than they look and have a sinewy strength. Have you ever bumped into one of those guys while walking in a hurry? Now imagine one body hitting you between 11-15mph on purpose. So while I stand by my statement about how Hurd looks on video (haven't met him face to face) this doesn't mean he can't bulldozer defenders, run through arm tackles, and defy laws of inertia. Just that I think he'll be more of galloping type runner than a Trent Richardson type.
