Spurrier being Spurrier. Takes a jab at UT

Spurrier is good coach and nothing more. He's is not in the elite of coaches. He is average at best. Look at his total history in coaching. He couldn't make it in the pros as a coach ( or as a player ). The only way he makes a name for himself right now is that Tennessee is not what they were, Florida is not what they were and Georgia is really the same way. When these three get back the Spurrier can do no better that 4th place in the east. I wonder when south Carolina will wake up and figure out this "has been" is getting paid way too much. The only thing spurrier has mastered is throwing back the bottle. Even Pete Carroll is better coach than "ole ball slush".

Spurrier's best days have been behind him since he left to coach Washington back in 2002.

what ? CSS is a fine football coach and yes i hated him when he was kicking UTs butt all them years and he still is a very fine coach

you got to remember he is coaching at USC lite, this is the best run they have ever had,I would like to see what he could have done at UT

he would of had a couple of more championship trophy's and i do have to say as far as jabs at UT this is a weak one

I hope Tennessee puts a hurting on "the old ball crotch" more than I can put words to. That won't stop me from making an effort though. I hope the Vols beat him so bad he retires to a nursing home in Siberia to escape the shame.

How is it 14 times? Should be 6 times with Florida, and this should be the 5th time with South Carolina. What am I missing? Maybe when he was an assistant at GT and Florida, and maybe once with Duke or something?

At least once with Duke in mid-late 80's (I was a student and went to that game - even at that game he gave us more trouble than it should have been even though we won the game).

SOS is probably one of the all-time top 3-5 best coaches in the history of the SEC. He changed the league when he became UF's coach. I don't like sticking up for the guy because he has caused me a lot of pain and anguish as a Tennessee fan, but it's hard to argue with his track record. He won an ACC Championship at Duke for goodness sake. He single handedly kept us from multiple Sugar Bowls and National Title appearances. He's always seemed to be just one step ahead back in the 90's when we went 45-5 over a 4 year period.

I have to admit, his smart ass quips are pretty good. Even if they are at our expense a majority of the time. If we don't want him to talk about us, then we have to beat him.

CSS is an elite college coach. He put Florida on the national scene and has done the same with USC jr. Spurrier has been great for the college game.

All Spurrier has mastered is throwing back the bottle because he was tipsy on TV once? GTFO

Was in Hilton head a few years back and a singer/songwriter tried to play comedian. He asked the small crowd if we knew what the two worst things that came out of Tennessee were. He said Steve Spurrier and I-40. I lafffed. All he wanted was a "Go Vols" which I gave him. I'll go ahead and give myself the obligatory "cool story bro".

One of the dumbest posts I've read on here in a while.

My parents use to socialize/party with Steve and Jerry while he was coaching here in Durham. I have heard quite a few stories from them over the years, and even witnessed the Ole Ball Coach in good spirits when I was with them on occasion when we would go back to the coach's office at Duke after a game. I was just a little guy back then, 7 or 8 years old, but I remember him slugging some Miller Lite's back in the day after games. Dude's a Pro. Look at me. Pro.

This is a ridiculous post.

I wanted nothing more than beating Spurrier when he coached the Gators.

But let's be honest Vols fans...
he's taken South Carolina to the heights of its program's history.
he's taken Florida to the heights of its program's history.
and he darn sure took Duke to its heights...

Spurrier is a fantastic coach.

Which will make it all the sweeter when we beat him on Saturday!

Go Vols!

He already lives in Columbia, SC, why make things better for him?

Haha good call. I don't know if you're referring to the town or the weather, but it is always the hottest place on our regional weather map. That and Fort Bragg/Fayetteville. It's always 5 degrees hooter, hotter than everywhere else.

I'm not really seeing the jab here. Stevie just said a fact that's all. Noting for us Vol fans to get worked up about. If anything I'd say Stevie was simply saying hey look I've been doing this S*** too long.

Spurrier can throw out some great zingers. I like them...still love to hate him.

But don't be so naive to believe he's just throwing out some facts. That d-head is not a historian.

FYI: It's also a fact that you can't spell Citrus without a U and a T...

In what universe is a 213-78-2 record, 6 SEC championships, 1 National Championship, a Heisman Trophy, and ten years in the National Football League "not elite"?

No offense, man, but you've gone off the deep end. I hate that I love Spurrier, but he's a future Hall of Fame coach and it's not even really questionable.
