Spurrier to Miami speculation . . .

Telling the truth does not make one classless.
I have told him he is a classless loud mouth. My exact quote was "Coach, you have a lot of talent and sit as the head coach at a major university. It is a shame that you feel the need to mouth off and show little to know respect to others and offer little class".

His response was "I guess we all have our own oppinions".

I would bet my entire betting bankroll this never happened.

Your points are nonsensical. Spurrier is one of the nation's top coaches. He has won everywhere he's been, even Duke. Once he gets a few of his recruits, not the bums Lou Holtz signed, he'll be challenging for the SEC championship. It's hilarious that Lou Holtz and the Gamecocks got blasted by the Vols in Columbia. The next year under Spurrier they lost most of their offensive stars, came to Neyland, and beat us. Come up with an excuse for that one.

Also, I never indicated that Spurrier would be a coach here. However, you are insane if you don't think he would win a lot of games at Tennessee.

Nonsensical.... interesting. Don't beleive I offered up any excuses. But if you want to consider his wins over a couple 5-6 Vols teams as great accomplishments then go ahead. IMHO they are just meaningless stats....

Personally I think Spurrier is a good coach who acts like a jackass sometimes. I also think CPF is a good coach. Winning % for CPF is 0.766 for Spurrier 0.765.

However, neither IMHO is a great coach. Neither IMHO fall in the same category as does the General or the Bear or Bobby Bowden....

Spurrier record against the Vols gets a lot of discussion on this board but if you look at his HC record against the Vols he was 3-3 in his first six games and is 3-3 in his last six. A delta of 4 game that can be contributed to his 94-97 teams which I will admit were the elite of the SEC. They beat everybody in the SEC not just UT. But after the 96 NC he & Florida came back down to earth a little bit. Vols win SEC title in 97/98 then Bama 99... Spurrier has repeated losses to FSU combined with losses to GA, LSU, AUBURN, BAMA, VOLS even to MSU. He ends his Gator Coaching career with a 34-32 loss on Florida Field to the Vols.

....after following SEC football for 40 years you will just have to excuse me if I don't get real excited when one program or coach has a 4 game advance or win streak over another team. All you have to do is remember what we did to GA and what Bama did to us.

Sun don't shine on the same dog all the time.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn ever so often.

Spurrier dominated the entire SEC for a solid decade. TCHFCATUTK has two SEC titles, one of which was handed to him by LSU and Georgia, after he and the Saint Peyton failed miserably against the Gators as usual.

yep LSU & GA just rolled over and said here you go Phil and the 13-0 and BCS NC in 98 was fluke.

Again, unable to grasp a simple point. I was illuminating the fact that TCHFCATUTK and Saint Statman couldn't beat a Florida team that Gerry Di Nardo and Jim Donnan did. The fact that Spurrier dominated the SEC in the '90s is indisputable.

illuminating...that's a very pretty word.

Against Spurrier DiNardo was 1-7 and Donnan 1-5.

:rtfm:
Man Law States:
Once a coach from a rival team is available to coach your team. It is unacceptable under any circumstances to invite said coach to your team even if it means you can't win for 2 years without him. Furthermore, said coach is to ridiculed and chastised as often as possible.

p.s. If said coach is from the same state that hates him, he is to have all rights revoked by home state to set foot in that state for any purposes other than away game or just passing through to get to away game in adjoining state. Otherwise he is not allowed within the borders of home state.:rtfm:

Amen!!!!!!

Meaning that Di Nardo and Donnan each beat Spurrier one more time than TCHFCATUTK/Saint Statman, which was my point.

stuck in the 90s it seems....you're correct in 97 the Vols lost to Spurrier's Gator while Donnan & Di Nardo had wins.

Yes, they are. All those wins in the '30s, '40s, and '50s are really relevant.

Just like Spurriers 90's wins. I dont understand how we can reward our mortal enemy for his past accomplishments, but not our very own coach. Yes Spurrier beat us last year, Who didnt? He started loosing to us before he wnt to the NFL, continued there and had a lucky break last year. You could say he has been in a downward spiral for a while, but your willing to hire him. F____ Spurrier, that would be the only time I rooted for a loosing season, just so we could fire him. I wonder what some on this board would have to talk about if we did fire Fulmer?

How many coaches from the '30s, '40s, and '50s are still active? If TCHFCATUTK were terminated, I believe I would be rendered speechless by undescribable joy for at least 3 months.

A Fulmerite accusing someone of being stuck in the '90s. That may be the very definition of irony.

A Fulmerite? Not sure why you label me....if you review my posts you won't find any where I say CPF is a great coach. But I will say CPF is a good coach who has a poor record against Spurrier who has a poor record against Bobby Bowden who has a poor record against Miami...etc.

but hiring Spurrier as the Vols Coach IMHO can only be classified as penis envy for those that can't get the 90s out of their head.

Or 2005.

Well, Spurrier was perhaps the greatest coach in the SEC since Bear bryant in the 90s, winning six SEC titles plus one "1st place."

CPF took the best talent in the country during his great run and won 2 SEC titles and got lambasted by Spurrier with his best teams.

Tough to argue with that.

Just think how good SC will be a few years from now. Spurrier hasn't had but a few recruiting seasons to work with. Wait till he gets a few more. I can't stand Spurrier but I can't deny his ability as a coach. I live in SC thanks to the Air Force :salute: and all the Spurrier talk here drives me crazy and I come here and Spurrier is being talked about here too. I can't get away from the guy!

Greatness is hard to define sometimes....IMHO Spurrier is a very good Coach, I'm just not quite ready to put Spurrier in the same league as the Bear. The Bear won at four different schools. Impressively.

If Spurrier can do the same thing at USC as he did at Florida then I'll give him his due....but pardon me if I wait for the jury to return.

And every Coach seem to have a team or Coach that he just can't seem to beat consistently for CPF it's Spurrier & Florida...for Spurrier & Florida it's Bowden & FSU.... for Bowden & FSU....it's Miami....even the Bear had a team he just could not beat...Notre Dame. 0-4

Saying he's the best SINCE Bear isn't saying he's as GOOD AS Bear.

Saying he's the best SINCE Bear isn't saying he's as GOOD AS Bear.

granted it isn't but it is what I inferred. Believe it is against the law in Bama to mention another coach and the Bear in the same sentence.....unless that coach is also a legend of the game.

Spurrier is a very good coach....he is the greatest coach Florida has had...he is one of the best in the SEC and one could probably say he is the most successful SEC Coach since the Bear. But that depends on how you define success to. If success is SEC titles then yes...if it is SEC titles to NC titles then maybe not.

In the 70s Bama won 8 SEC titles and 3 NC titles. In 80s Georgia won 3 SEC titles and 1 NC. 90s Florida won 5 SEC titles and 1 NC, VOLS won 3 SEC titles and 1 NC and Bama won 1 SEC title and 1 NC. So far in 00s LSU has won 2 SEC titles and 1 NC. About 1 NC for every 3 SEC titles. If you use this as the standard then Stevie is behind the power curve.

This is not my standard but a friend of mine...a diehard Bama fan...of course he use the NC standard to define the greatest of a school's program and argues that it also defines the greatest of a coach. His persistence and argument has won me over in several areas.

Win a couple SEC titles and a NC you are one of the best....win several SEC titles and 2 NC you are one of the greatest....win a bunch of SEC titles and several NCs you are a legend of the game.....

Stallings, Saban, Dooley, Fulmer, Spurrier all are a one of the best.....regardless

Legends...the Bear...the General
