Spurrier to Miami speculation . . .

his leaving would lead me to believe that even Spurrier himself doesn't believe he can be a winner at USC

Wouldn't have to worry about South Carolina rising above 4th in the SECE anymore... I almost feel sorry for those guys if its true.

Just reported as "breaking news" on SportsCenter:

"If Larry Coker is fired as the head football coach at the University of Miami, sources say the leading candidate for the position is . . . Steve Spurrier."

"Oh thank you God"

The U plays OSU in a few years, I would love to see OSU have to play Spurrier. Hope I would love the result.

I would love this. But I took a look over at cockytalk to see what they're saying. Besides their usual completely blind optimism ("we're going to be a powerhouse next year") one of their fans made a good point (in between throwing trash on the field, applauding moral victories, and leaving a close game in the third quarter at home).

The U would have to buy out Coker's contract and Spurrier's contract, which is apparently in the 2nd year of a 9 year deal. Thats a lot of money to spend. Other then that, I can totally see it. He's had lots of success in the state, lots of connections there, Miami can definately out-recruit usc, the acc is much easier sledding especially with the rome-esque fall of fsu.

But the main reason I see...he's getting old. It could take him years trying to turn around usc and not get anywhere, while Miami could be great again in a year or two. No need to waste his coaching twilight at usc like holtz did. He thought he could turn that program around but now he's realized what all of us knew...its a coaching graveyard.

If this is possible how much money would the U have to pay for this transaction. How much time is left on the other contract and does Miami really want to spend this kinda of money. I am mean his record is proven but can he still work the magic in Florida and make the Gators regret ever letting him go. Because if he took over there could be a new dominance down in Florida

It would be a great move for SS in my opinion...not to mention the fact that I wouldn't mind the USC games getting back to normal....He could be a beast at miami.

I wonder if he did get the U, what would that mean to the rivals down there would they get better?
I think it forces bobby out faster at FSU...and while were going down the "what if" road....Richt has FSU in his contract as being somewhere he can leave to go to at anytime....that would shake up the sec some more.

Just imagine a precession of red and black dawned fans making a sacrifice, barking like dogs we would never have to hear again. Then of course most would follow Marc Richt to FSU and start howling like a indian and doing that over done chop oh how I love college sports

I had JUST told my wife last night "tongue in cheek" that I thought Spurrier could be the next head coach at Miami.

LOL

That's awesome.

Yaaaaaaawn....are you guys still talking about Spurrier....hey, heres an idea....why dont all the boosters from UT and UF put all their money together and just pay him to quit coaching at SC...that way your future wont look so bleek. SC home of the Gamecocks, home of Coach Spurrier. RIP.

Every one of your posts reminds me of that Iraqi Minister of Information that kept giving press conferences where he made it up as he went while the Iraqi army was being decimated outside his window.

yep....after this year Spurrier really has us all scared for years to come with those moral victories he had against UT and UF:birgits_giggle:

Last year I heard how this year was going to be even better for the Cocks. What happened? You'll finish 6-6 this year. Not even the best team in the state. Clemson will continue to own you. Moral victories are king. You finish middle of the pack in the SEC . . . again. And . . . . you consider beating a fellow Tennessee school (MTSU) worthy of a post on a UT board. Incredible. Guess a win over MTSU is somehow a moral victory of UT.

What gives? When will the Cocks stop living for "wait till next season"?
