Squirrel White commits to Florida State

By those who hit the portal and ended up at lesser schools. That’s called being bitter. Instead of blaming themselves for not seeing the field they blame the WR coach.
That would make sense, but it sounds like there was some substance to that, given that people in the know on this board have discussed it and it was addressed by Hubbs and Price also.

What would Squirrel have to be bitter about? He got more clock than he should’ve this season. His shoulder was so messed up it seemed to really have a huge impact on his ability.

White was a mediocre player, a role player playing a starters role. Banged up, yes. Dynamic, no.

What does he have to be bitter about? Boo coming across the line to potentially take his reps.

Hate to lose Squirrel and still don't understand why he's transferring. Does he just not like the WR coach? Seems unlikely he's going to have a better situation at Florida State than he will next year at UT.
$. He made some at Tennessee but he needed more & FSU paid it.

Yes, the great unknown. Take a look at the pinned LWS offering of projected roster and you will see with ALL the portal losses, we can presently only add 2 back before fall UNLESS we have further losses, which could be player driven or with a nudge. Without being in the building we will never know which.

That is why the serial moans and groans about portal losses are laughable. Gotta think that some higher quality guys from some talented rooms will pull the trigger post spring if we have room and funds.

Dude can't catch unless he's diving for a great pass that he somersaults all over the field. Good riddance. Next man up
As I understand it, he played with an injured shoulder. I admire his courage for playing despite adversity. Though I know some of our fans are negaVols and canniVols due to a DNA defect.

I think Squirrel was better than a mediocre player when he was healthy, at least he had his moments. How much stock are we putting in Boo getting serious reps on offense? I know what’s been said and I think the more times he has the ball in has hands the better, but unless he’s making a permanent change to offense I have my doubts about him being a huge contributor on the offensive side of the ball.

Tennessee is an at will employer state. I think the best they could do is give you a bonus and your contact basis you pay a chunk back if you leave early
Contracted employees with a CBA are excluded in that. As long as it is set up like the NFL, which includes a buyout clause, should be in the clear.

Maybe not even need that if done like the NFL.

He had moments. Too small to break tackles and too slow to be double teamed.

Squirrel doesn't really have an NFL future unless he does it as an undrafted walk on. With basically one more year left in his football career remaining he likely chose to make the most money he possibly could. There's really no other reason for him to have left a place where he was already getting starting time and national exposure to go play for a dumpster fire program unless there really is something to this WR coach discussion. When there is ambiguity I stick to the most likely answer which is $$$

Yet to see one that truly is a loss. Jenkins might be the biggest loss and that’s up for debate.
100% agree Jenkins was the biggest loss to portal. I think as far as it goes we lost a lot less than other teams did in the portal. I wish squirrel all the best but I think he peaked in '23.. that is what he is capable of. I think he will find it hard to replicate even those numbers at FSU. The noles picked up 3 good players from the Vols though (White, Jenkins, Herring). All likely starters.

Squirrel could have been a problem for opposing defenses in 2025 if the staff could've put he and Matthews on the same side and let squirrel be the underneath option. Squirrel also needed the routes where they tried to throw deep to Bru McCoy, who doesn't have the speed to make those down field deep catches. I was left scratching my head at how many deep routes they tried with McCoy.

There was certainly some very questionable schematic issues with receivers in 2024, especially later in the season. Not really sure how to put my finger on it, but the best players were not on the field and not running the correct routes to play to their strengths. Don't know if this is an OC issue, or Heupel issue???

Great receiver, great speed and hands . Unfortunately had to play the last couple of years with inconsistent Quarterback play. I think he should have stayed and had a huge breakout season with a more experienced Quarterback. Granted our pass blocking improves. Wishing him luck and thank him for all he has done for the Vols!
Always heard about his elusive "speed", but never saw it displayed on the field.
