Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

I can't stand when people say 20-30 years in exile. How old do they think Luke was in ANH?

Otherwise it was an interesting theory.

In Clone Wars there is a Mandolorian Duchess who Obiwan shares some overt sexual tension with. When Anakin notices Obiwan reveals that as a padawan he was instructed to protect her for a time and they became very close. He says he almost left the Jedi Order to be with her.

I'll be disappointed if Rey is Luke's daughter. Obi works for me. I csn't think of a good reason Luke would abandon her and not have found her.

Imagine watching your nephew and apprentice destroying everything you built and killing padawans the same his (Luke) father had. Padawans that your daughter was likely a part of. He hid her to protect her until he could find the Jedi temple and try to learn where he went wrong and what he could do to prevent it from happening again.

If either are true, both Obi Wan and Luke suck at keeping oaths of the Jedi Order!

Luke was never really trained in the ways of the Jedi order. Sure Obiwan and Yoda showed him how to channel the force and told him about the light and dark sides but he was never a youngling or padawan. He never had to answer to a Jedi Council. Outside of the occasional force ghost visit he was basically left to figure it out on his own.

I thought they weren't allowed to be married.? Meaning, sexual relations were frowned on but allowed.

My thoughts on the matter

She's a Skywalker. I'm thinking Luke's daughter myself. I mean, how many brunettes with brown eyes with a kick assery penchant for the Force can there be in a galaxy? You have Grandma Padme with dark hair, dark eyes, Aunt Leia with dark hair and eyes. And now comes Rey.

But the reason he might have abandoned her was/is the same reason he was sent away when he was a child. Just like it was mentioned in ESB and ROTJ, his offspring could be turned (or family members like Ren) to the dark side. He sent her away to protect her.

Correct, Jedi are suppose to be released of personal attachments including family members, per the EU. Movies mention Jedi shouldn't get romantically involved. I'm not really sure that Rey is Luke's kin. But she could be, but I don't really want her to be nor do I think she is.

I finally got to sit down and watch it. You can see the Abrams influence on the film, not that it's a bad thing. It's an interesting story line that certainly leaves you wanting more as a lot of questions are really hanging out there. I did think some of the portions were very convenient and some things weren't really necessary like the scene where Han and Chewie find the Falcon and the other groups that showed up. That wasn't really needed for the flow of the story IMO. And they made a big deal about Captain Phasma in the promos, but she really didn't have any part in the overall story.

And I feel like there is some significant background missing that might be explained in later episodes. But overall, it does leave you wanting more.

Agreed, the other groups going after Han and Chewie were not needed. Should have spent the time developing the story more, or given Luke some screen time.

It's a minor complaint though, all in all I enjoyed it.

I think that scene was meant to show he had fallen back to his old smuggler ways as opposed to just saying it in exposition.

Lucas sounds like a total prick those quotes. Waaa, they didn't want to do things my way. 'Waaa they didn't want to give me any real say over what happens. Waaaa they actually wanted to make good movies that the fans will like'. If he had released some of his power and stubbornness maybe the prequels could've been what they were capable of being.

LOL yeah I'm not feeling too sorry for old Georgie. I'm sure he can dry his tears with that 4 billion dollars Disney paid him!

Did Ford only agree to come back if Solo was taken out or was it just part of the story?

I haven't heard him or anyone involved say it but I have a feeling he said he would only do one. For one thing, he's not getting any younger and I doubt he wants to sign on to a 6-8 year commitment. And then you look at his history of sort of dissing the notation of returning for another Star Wars. Plus he is on record saying he asked Lucas to kill off his character in Jedi.

Now, I don't think they developed the story around Han's death but the story allowed for an easy out.

It's been brought up in this thread before but everyone should check out the Jar Jar Binks theory and then rewatch all the prequels mainly TPM. I believe Lucas was actually going to setup Jar Jar as the main bad guy. He was supposed to be The Phantom Menace. Jar Jar was going to be the Sith version of Yoda. Lucas even said Jar Jar is the key to everything. But he scraped the idea after all the fan outcry and hatred over Jar Jar. One of the books that helped inspire Lucas had a character named Binks who was exiled from his home because he didn't have any magic but later on you find he did have magic, it just acted in an accidental sort of way that no one had seen before.

I think Lucas created Jar Jar for kids and that's all there is to it.

Palpatine was always meant to be the big bad as evidenced by episodes 4-6.

----

On a side note: I watched Jedi with my kids yesterday and I don't mind Ewoks at all. I loved them as a child, hated them as an adolescent/young adult, and have come to accept them for what they are as a grown man. Maybe not the shining moment of the series but they aren't as bad as I've seen some fans whine about.

That's what I used to think but there are scenes in TPM that can't be explained without Jar Jar using force abilities. Everything he did was animated and as such was done on purpose. There's a scene where Qui Gon, Obi and Jar Jar drop down off a ledge. Qui Gon and Obi drop straight down but Jar Jar appears on the opposite side of the screen from where he should've been and you can even watch the droids track his force jump across the screen. Again the droids are completely animated as well so this was all planned. If you have the time you should really look into it.

I've seen the theory. I just don't think Lucas is that complex of a story teller.

While he may have toned down Jar Jar for E2-3, I don't think his ego would let fan pressure force him to abandon any plans of that level.

Who is her mom then? I'm going to register with ancestry.com to keep up.

Obi Wan's daughter was her mother making Rey Obi Wan's granddaughter. Don't know if it'll end end being true but that's one way they could both the Skywalker and Kenobi tie in.
