Star Watching (merged)

This time last year we had Jacques Smith and Markeith Ambles committed. Spin it all you want, but no one in this class so far is even close to their caliber.

Smith would be a Vol if I were the coach. Where is Ambles by the way?

As for Ambles, Kiffin was basically the only coach that would take his commitment atp. If you want to crown him for that then go right ahead.

I agree with the OP.

Offer lists are manifest, tangible, concrete and measurable evidence of evaluations done by men who are paid top dollar to make those evaluations. Men whose jobs depend on offering the right guys. Men who, in other words, put their money where their mouths are.

Of course the same goes for our staff but that makes the point: our offer list is a measure of where the program is. The only hint of subjectivity is the negligible factor of depth issues and scheme/system particularities. I would say that there is some of that going on with our new staff.

Last year, we were talking top 3 class.

This year, we are talking about how much we want a top-15 class.

I think that says a lot.

Smith, Randolph, and Coleman will all be 4 stars by the end of their senior season. And you could make a case for Crowder and Saulsberry.

just like Fulton was going to be a 4-star, because he owned at the camps?

no one has a clue what they will be. i would be willing to bet that all four of them get a boost in the rankings but only 1/4 gets an additional star when its all said and done.

But the caliber of players we have recruited up to this point is very disappointing. Some of these guys will undoubtedly end up All-SEC type players, but your odds are much better with better rated talent.

I understand it's a process, but if Kiffin was able to convince high-profile kids to come to UT then we already know it is possible. Unless this recruiting class takes a real turn, it appears that we will be forced to rely on under-vauled players to build our future team upon and please do not delude yourself, that will make it nigh impossible to compete with the Floridas and Alabamas.

This is not an evaluation of our coaching or recruiting abilities, merely a sobering examination of where we are as a program right now.
Your right, with the success we've had in recent years, we should at least be splitting 50/50 with Bama and Fla. on every recruit. FAIL

Hope no felt that this staff was up to the previous staff as far as recruiting capabilities and experience? Look at backgrounds and see the difference real quick...

this current staff doesn't have that over the staff that CLK replaced either.. It will take time to assess this staffs capabilities. Likely more than a class or two.[/QUOTE

We don't have 2 classes to see if they can recruit or not. With the level of talent we have on the current squad they have to hit the ground running. Right now they are walking.

Wow, when you put it that way I'm suddenly thrilled that we are stinking it up in recruiting! You don't even pretend to get it.

FAIL

who cares? Ambles is a top-WR. he is a significantly better route runner than our own "star-stud" Rogers.

who cares if he was the only one to take him. we wouldve had a ridiculously talented player on our team that we no longer have. oh, and we still likely wouldve landed Rogers, too. so if my math is correct, thats two ridiculously talented players we wouldve had on our team.

who cares if he was the only one? Lots of people saying we're the only big name team who will take these kids while UT was about the only one willing to take Ambles. Seems pretty comparable to me

and we would have been investigated soon after..
