State Makes All Adults in England Organ Donors Unless They Object

Because it avoids the possibility of the government abusing their power. But since billions of people practice various forms of religion, that's enough of a reason.

Not all religions forbid organ donation. Most Christian denominations range from from acceptance to encouragement.

So the religions in the minority aren't to be considered and the government gets to take their organs?

My question assumed an exception for religious belief. I only raised the point because your reply assumed that billions of people practice religions that forbid donation.

Religion has nothing to do with this subject. Whatever reason a person has for not wanting to donate their organs is good enough, they shouldn't have to "opt-out".

An extreme example...

Sarah Baartman - Wikipedia

Display of remains

After Baartman's death, Geoffroy Saint Hilaire applied on behalf of the Muséum d' Histoire Naturelle to retain her corpse on the grounds that it was of singular specimen of humanity and therefore of special scientific interest. The application was approved and Baartman's skeleton and body cast were displayed in Muséum d'histoire naturelle d’Angers. Her skull was stolen in 1827 but returned a few months later. The restored skeleton and skull continued to arouse the interest of visitors until the remains were moved to the Musée de l'Homme, when it was founded in 1937, and continued up until the late 1970s. Her body cast and skeleton stood side by side and faced away from the viewer which emphasized her steatopygia (accumulation of fat on the buttocks) while reinforcing that aspect as the primary interest of her body. The Baartman exhibit proved popular until it elicited complaints for being a degrading representation of women. The skeleton was removed in 1974, and the body cast in 1976.

I asked what the "good reason" might be.

Not wanting to is a good enough reason. Nobody has to explain "why".

What the hell has teh world come to when a person has to explain why they don't want someone cutting up their corpse?

It may be "good enough" from a legal standpoint. It's a far cry from "good"

I've never really understood why anyone gives a crap what happens to his corpse. It's because of that lack of understanding that I asked the question.

The past 2 months has really revealed a lot about people's thinking with regards to our bodies.

Do I have a choice where or to whom my organs go after I die? What if my organs are going to a klansman?

Look, I'm an organ donor and I've told my wife I want her to get rid of my corpse teh cheapest way possible, preferably a Viking funeral on the lake. BUT because I decide to donate and don't want a fuss doesn't give anyone, especially the .gov the right to decide what happens to me after I'm gone. I also owe only 1 person an explanation for my wishes and that is my wife.

As a said earlier, what has teh world come to. ****ing virtue signaling sheep.

What would happen to the organs of someone that died on death row from electrocution or lethal injection?

I'm not the most religious person by any stretch, but you guys are tapping into a spiritual realm when you are talking about a wholesale harvesting of organs like this.

The way it is set up right now, the people that voluntarily sign up to be organ donors would be "good" people. But even my agnostic/atheist azz wouldn't feel right about some evil persons organs being passed around society.
