Stephanie Mavunga

Cuba deserved a win, imho. Those old 35 yo legs just finally got outrun at the last. Harper saved the day.

Why Mo Jefferson doesn't get called for double dribbling is a crime. She does it every time she has the ball.

one more season of it isn't gonna hurt anyone

USA all the way. I was cheering for the UConn girls even though Stewart played far below how she usually plays. Part of it was players not willing to give up the ball.

Since this thread is supposed to be about Mavunga, has anyone had a chance to see how she is playing in the Pan Am games? I haven't seen any of the games yet. Is she one of the top players on the team? The best post player? I plan to watch the replays on ESPN3 later in the summer when my schedule lightens up. Until then, what do you all think about her play?

Mavunga hasn't played very much so far.

The second game on the list was against the D.R. That would be the game where you can see her play the most. I don't remember her playing at all down the stretch in any of the games that were close.
Coates is easily the best post player on the team so far.

when they were playing like crap against Cuba in the first half she came in, promptly got called for a foul but then started getting rebounds and made a decent showing. She was much better than Reimer, imvho :)

Canada won the Gold, BS & MJ (uconners) played like crap, Kia Nurse (uconner) played great for Canada.

USA team were a bunch of kids pulling in opposite directions.

Yes, I loved it watching Stewart & Mj get knocked down a peg! lol

Stewart played good hitting 48 percent of her shots and 67 percent of her free throws. Jefferson however shot a weak 38 percent which is not that good.
Overall the two of them took 169 shots and made 71 or 42 percent. This is below par for the two of them.
Walker-Kimbrough was the best player for the USA in the tourney she shot 58 percent although for some reason only got 46 total shots.

Stephanie Mavunga didn't get much playing time she hit 10 of 13 shots for 76 percent. For some reason the USA coach seemed to want to go with Reimer who shot 36 percent in 122 minutes of playing time.
I thought the USA coach was weak in strategy and in one huddle actually had an altercation with Coates who didn't seem to like the fact she was laying a lot of the blame for bad play on her.

To add I think Jefferson and several other players on the team were enjoying not playing in the team concept. They were going down and jacking up shots anytime they wished. I thought the WUG wasn't as good as this team now that opinion has changed. Ariel Powers still the best player on both teams.

No doubt in my mind that this team played way below their ability. I think a better coach wins gold easily. This coach allowed to much BS.

I didn't enjoy it one bit. The USA lost. I didn't find any joy in that.

I don't get your obsession with UConn. They appear in a large percentage of your threads. What's the story there ?

I agree. There was little team work shown. The US was the youngest team in the tournament by quite a bit. They played against teams with 30 year olds on them.
It was their 5th game in 5 days and the coach pretty much stuck with a short rotation. I think the final result was a combination of factors that included, no offensive scheme, fatigue, and yes, just not playing up to their capabilities. One more factor, Canada played very well and their extended time together, as a team, showed.

I saw Mavunga playing in person over the last week. I thought she was very effective when she played. The games are blurring together for me so I apologize if I get the wrong game but she had one very strong game. I think that was the one against the Dominican Republic so it doesn't say as much as it might if it were stronger team but she was very effective, and I'm surprised she didn't get more time. I like to be supportive of the USA coaches but I think there were some time management issues.

I talked to Holly Warlick last night for some time. I thought about bringing up Mavunga but decided against it, so I can't tell you what she was thinking but the very fact that she was there is meaningful. I apologize if this fact is already been reported but I reviewed the thread and didn't see it mentioned.

Warlick was in Canada?

If Warlick was in Canada to watch a game, it must have been to show Mavunga that she is interested, no?

Looks to me like Tennessee or Ohio State with parents pushing Ohio State. Ohio State a lot closer to home hopefully that want matter because best chance to win a title is Tennessee.

Is there a source her parents are pushing for Ohio State? My parents wanted me to go away from UT when I was recruited, both thought it is better for kid. There are a lot of parents who feel that way. A 200 mile drive is 4 hours, I would think a flight might be just as attractive for close to same price, and less time.

Her Dad wants her at OSU.
