If a school doesn't grant a release to a player then they should lose that scholarship until the player is back on scholarship.

Sure wish we could get Mavunga and her to be able to play this year, Mavunga may be the missing piece of the puzzle.

A gentle reminder... some of these UNC girls evidently needed those academic crutches to get by.

Some excellent UNC players may not make the court if they transfer into a legitimate program.

I haven't read the NCAA's full report, so I'm wondering if they identified which classes were bogus, and if it's as simple as looking at a transcript to know which players were benefiting.

It is all about enabling. Give someone a fish and you can feed them for a day. Teach them to fish and you feed them for life. Tennessee women don't have that problem. Their GPA's are always high. Holly makes sure they go to class and go to study hall.

A lot was centered on "certain courses within the Department of African and African-American Studies" and of course the ubiquitous 'lack of institutuionL control'. Unfortunately the WBB program seemed to be heavily involved, but so was football (and probably MBB). A Women's program having such egregious conduct is unusual. BUT it does not necessarily mean any of the girls transferring out were involved, and checking the student/grade history of one department would be relatively simple...when compared to checking every department in every college.

If it is true, UNC needs to pay a heavy price. That is not just cheating in sports; that is cheating those involved of an education and cheapening the education of all UNC current students and graduates.

I just hope WBB is not made the sacrificial goat to save an elite MBB program.

If CSH is blocking schools the girls can transfer to, I feel the NCAA should be proactive and allow athletes to transfer to any school...although I could understand banning intraconference transfers, that might need some conference input to determine...beyond my pay grade😊

I'm not surprised that this happened/continues to happen -- sadly -- but I have to admit that I am a bit surprised that the hammer has fallen on UNC-Chapel Hill. Generally speaking, that is one of the top public universities in the U.S., on par with UVA. However, I guess when a vast percentage of your revenue comes from school athletics, you do crazy things to keep the revenue flowing (and increasing).

I would imagine this has been prolific in all major sports at UNC (just as it is likely prolific in major sports at many universities), but I can also sadly see women's basketball being sacrificed to save men's basketball. It's completely unfair, but men's basketball is far more of a revenue producer for the university. That said, if the women's basketball program was involved as heavily as has been reported, there need to be major sanctions. It just needs to be equal among all guilty parties.

I don't think it is right or ethical to block transfers to other universities, especially in this circumstance. But it is what it is. The whole situation stinks.

If Hatchell is telling Mavunga she won't grant a release to Tennessee then Mavunga should appeal to the AD or the ACC. That is BS.

I have seen no evidence to support this statement. Just because an uninformed fan says it happens does not make it a fact.

And just because you discount someone as "uninformed" doesn't make it so. I don't know what did or did not transpire in this case, but I honestly think some people hope the release was unconditional so they can blame Holly for Gray not choosing UT . . . and that's really sad.

Hi, IVy. It's a uconn fan with the usual 'trying to stir the waters'. Like VN needs any assistance to do so...we are self sustaining water stirrers:)

Unfortunate but true. I visit other teams boards have have not seen the same level of vitriol that's displayed here among and between LV fans.

I agree. I would like to see it in writing from a reliable source. Cornelius always spews the party line and what she thinks is most advantageous to the team, which often bears little resemblance to fact or the truth.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen here. She is a reporter first and holds the truth above all, even when it isn't a pretty truth for UT.

How can a coach be allowed to block a kid from going to a specific school? If you allow somebody to transfer, you should let them go where they want to go. That's BS. I'd rather hear this sourced to somebody at UNC rather than Cornelius.

Gray was blocked. She had to give them a list of schools she was interested in (which is fairly standard) and UNC crossed UT off of that list.

From what I've been told, there were no conditions placed on Mavunga, but I don't know if UT was on the list she submitted to UNC.

I'm sure if she really wanted to go to UT though she could have gotten us back on that list. Raise a big stink with the conference office or media. I think the ACC should come down on that. You either release a kid or you don't especially with all their transgressions.

You know Gray and Mavunga talk. I could see Mavunga not putting UT on the list if she felt confident CSH would just strike the school off.

This is sad for UNC, first the proven academic cheating and now their coach (and it must be with approval of their administration) behaving like this. It is disappointing to see any program act like this.

Makes me think of the KState fiasco last year. But in that case, their own fans and alumni came down on them. I hope the UNC fans show the same concern for one of their kids as the KState fans did.

I doubt they will. People don't want Tennessee to win or get good players unless they are UT fans. When you have historic programs like UConn and Tennessee, people want to see you lose.
