Why are so many fans afraid of strong competition? Do we want to win because we are good, or simply by default because everyone else is so weak? If the competition is so bad, does the victory have any value? Is it like the trophies kids get in sports for participation, regardless of skill level? To truly be the best, you have to beat the best. I say bring it on! If everyone wants to go to South Carolina, it will make a victory over them that much sweeter.

Which conference are you in? I can't remember. Isn't it like the Metro Atlantic Community Colleges or something?

It doesn't matter. Winning is winning. But it makes it a lot harder to win if our conference rivals keep getting great players.

South Carolina was good to start with, and now they've added two excellent players. We're trying to win a title, and when a very good team adds two more good players it makes it harder to beat them, harder to win the SEC, harder to get a top seeding, etc. You are just being a bit naive.

Personally, having the best players in conference is best for the fans, and then so, the teams, including ours. I also thing one transfer is about all you want; girls think hard where they want to go, friendships are formed with in classes and outside classes, bringing in someone else messes up the chemistry, Diamond yes, another naa.

That's the same stuff I saw mentioned several times when Diamond left UNC and was obviously coming here. "We shouldn't take her ... it will mess up team chemistry". Meanwhile we hadn't had a bonafied star player period -- let alone one with any kind of swagger or persona -- since Parker left. So yeah, let's totally turn down Diamond DeShields. Riiiight. Because our recruiting was so on fire and recruits were just flocking to commit -- just like right now.

Holly needs good players. The more talent the better, because our Xs and Os obviously aren't going to give us much unless something changes. If the less talented players on the team don't like it and get their feelings hurt, oh well. Because that's what is really meant when people talk about team chemistry.

Team chemistry is overrated. The last 5-6 teams that supposedly had sooooooo much chemistry are living proof of that. The 07 and 08 teams' best players really didn't like each other all that much. But they tolerated each other enough to win two NCs and had good chemistry ON THE COURT where it mattered. The notion that any team has to have perfect team chemistry and all the players must mesh perfectly with each other in order to prosper is a myth (men's or women's ... but it seemingly gets brought up a lot more with women's teams).

I am sure if you played any team sports, all your teammates would agree, that team chemistry is important, and none would be surprised you STILL consider it overrated. :loco:

Well, just for one example, Anosike and Parker absolutely despised one another. They hated each other so much Pat would make them go at each other in practice to try to get them to respect one another and to push them to be better.

That was only at the beginning of their careers. They were fine later.

This past weekend they all came back to support Cait Mcmahan and Alexis Hornbuckle grand opening of their training center in maryville and for Bobby Maze celebrity basketball game......They all hung out all weekend and seemed to still have great chemistry to me.

I agree. I'm all for a strong SEC, but when really good players are joining your rivals and not you, soon it may come back and bite you. It has nothing to do with being scared. Scared or not when you can't match your opponent player for player, most likely it will be difficult to beat them. SC and UK needs no additional help. Both teams will be very good the next few seasons. It is crucial on what recruits we sign this class. To stay near the top, you must bring in elite talent each class and a game changer often to be a constant contender. There are a lot of elite recruits in the 2017 and 2018 classes that are really big fans of DeShields. I'm hoping she can do for us what Diggins did for ND. Tennessee needs the extra publicity because it helps with recruiting. Diggins had Lil Wayne (a major rap artist for all who is clueless) attending ND's games and doing her time there, Muffet reeled in top talent each class. Sadly circumstances kept Tennesse from being a possible destination for Muvunga, but if the staff reels in a top class it would ease the sting of not landing Muvunga.

Candace, Cait, Alexis, Kelly Cain, Bobby Maze, Duke Crews, Chris Lofton, Alyssia Brewer were there all wearing SAVE THE LADY VOLS shirts. Dominique, Alberta, and Shannon arrived too late for the group pictures but held up the shirts to pose for photos. Cierra wrote a great article supporting the LV name and logo. Maze had a very good statement about supporting the Ladys. The chemistry between all of them was great.

Anosike and Parker became great friends by their final season. The word "tolerated" was used to describe how they felt each other for most of the 07 season.

Parker dealt with so much jealousy and animosity her first two seasons (redshirt year and redshirt freshman year) that it's truly sad.

Ummmm I never said team chemistry wasn't important. I said it's not the end-all, be-all. My point was that I've heard about team chemistry with each Lady Vol team since going back to 2010 until I'm blue in the face, and we still have yet to reach a FF. There is this strange idea within our fanbase that the team with the most team chemistry is the one that cuts down the nets, which is ridiculous to think.

I don't think Anosike was jealous of Parker at all and had other reasons for disliking her. Anyway, it is not a secret that they did not get along. They had very different backgrounds, attitudes and approaches to the game.

Yep we were there.....have pictures of my daughter with Candace and Chris....we know Alberta pretty well....She is a great person and role model for kids.

My last statement wasn't directed towards Anosike. It was toward the team in general. There were three or four players, including Anosike, who were very hostile towards Candace early in her career, and yes Anosike was jealous of Candace.

Look at the next 6-pack who arrived in 2008. Great chemistry per reports, not so much talent. Had a very pitiful string of NCAA appearances.

Talent trumps chemistry every time.

Chemistry is pretty darn important. Not to say that talent isn't important either, but talent alone rarely takes you far.

Ten Years Later, Revisiting Team USA's Flop in the 2004 Olympics | Triangle Offense

"The obvious problem is that an (almost) All-Star team pieced together at the 25th hour like some sort of jigsaw puzzle has no shot of defeating teams who play together annually and already have cohesion. The international teams live for that ****. “You can’t just walk up and put a team together in two weeks and beat a team that’s been playing together for years,” Sam Mitchell told USA Today."
