These guys are busier right now than any coaching staff in the nation. They are frantically trying to make up ground on highly recruited players. This is not intended as a slight to Stephen, it's just the fact of the matter. They didn't even pursue the punter from Florida very hard and he ended up signing with CSU. I would give it time and hope for more interest after signing day. It sounds like you guys are going about it the right way.Birdracer there has been a DVD and a bio sent, phone calls made from me, family members, and long time loyal supporters and even a few e-mails that have been sent directly to Kiffen from a major supporter.
My fealing on this is that Stephen is becoming a victim of the coaching change. When Fulmer and the former staff was there he had recieved a few letters and was invited to "Junior Day" and the Wyoming game. Since the new staff has taken over.....nothing!
Does that mean they think he doesnt fit into there plans or is it because he is a kicker and kickers are at the bottom of the recruiting food chain?
The plan is to contact the football office with a few calls on Monday and try to get an answer from someone.
Stephen was contacted by a PAC 10 team yesterday and a WAC team on Wednesday....dont think those schools are a factor but it tells me if schools from those conferences are looking at a kid from Tennessee then why isn't UT communicating with him?
Being the person who called the Sports Animal about Stephen, he is the real deal and has what it takes to score when the game is on the line. McMinn County went to state playoffs this year a good part leading to there doing as well as they did was due to their kicking game. 98% of all kick offs were through the end zone, due to the way the season played out for the Cherokees there wasn't much field goal activity for Stephen, still the coach didn't have any problem throwing him in to try from 50 plus yards. If I could say that Stephen has one weakness it is that on punts he doesn't know what the coffin corner is and most punts from about 60 yards out ending up in the end zone.
I'm not a family member or a friend, just someone who likes football and would love to have him playing for the Vols instead of against them. He is already as good as if not better than the current kicking team at UT, I would put him up against Lincoln any day, and I believe he could hold his own against Mr. Britton Colquitt. You watch this young man and he seems to have ice water in his veins, he doesn't get rattled, he just does.
On video, I did find a site with video from the Houston Combine, by the way he won the kick off comp and killed everyone in doing it with outstanding hang time as well as distance.

Again Stephen has no clue who I am, and UT if you are listening, you could save a scholarship or two by signing Stephen, he can cover all three kicking positions and do all extremely well.
By the Way, there is another kid coming up behind him at McMinn who should step right into Stephens shoes...

I guess it is apparent that UT has no interest in Stephen as tomorrow is singing day and he has had no communication with anyone from the current football staff. I suppose they think he is not good enough to compete at the SEC level? When you have a kicker like Lincoln who went 10/18 on FG's and who cant bust an egg with his leg I believe I would invite a few kickers to walk on. Yet again UT lets a kid who lives within an hour of Neyland Stadium committ to another school.....
Basically this.
If you had the option of calling Marlon Brown and trying to convince him to come to UT, or a kicker, which one would you call?
The dead period ends tomorrow though, so maybe you could get a call then but who knows.
You are missing the point bburger991.....sure Brown would be a great addition to the UT program.
When you have a schlorship kicker that made just 55% of his FG's that to me is a point of interest and needs to be addressed. Not to mention you have to have another kicker do kick offs because Lincoln cant get the job done so there is more $$$ spent on the kicking game.
Again I say if you were Tennessee and who obviously has a glaring weakness in your kicking game and you have someone who has great potential would you not at least communicate with him in some fashion?
Apparently coach Fulmer and his staff thought Stephen had that potential because he recieved several letters and visited the campus and attended a game but I suppose someone on the current staff doesnt have 5 minutes to pick up the phone and make a call. I understand they are committed to signing the best players in the country but when they need a clutch field goal made and Kiffen looks at Lincoln to make it I hope he doesnt say damn dont we have someone better then this guy? Because you dont Lane because he will be kicking at Austin Peay.....even though he wanted just a chance and no one at UT wanted to give the kid that opportunity.
I completely understand you, and it does suck that UT seems to not be giving him the time of day, but NSD is only the FIRST day you can sign a LOI. Why not wait a little while before he makes his decision? Also, when you send Lane Kiffin an email, something like what you've said above would definitely get them thinking. Or hell if you really think he's D1 material go to UT and beat down Kiffin's door until he gets his chance. If it's his dream to play for UT, go out and get it.

Surprise, got an eMail back from UT asking for Stephen's number.... Maybe there is light at the end of this tunnel...
