Steven Pearl is calling you out!

I have no need to "look into it." Lots of Fortune 500 companies probably advertise on the Lifetime Channel. Doesn't mean I need to start watching bad movies starring washed up TV actresses. Facebook is as relevant and meaningful to me as a Nancy McKeon mini-series.

Your statement is accurate. I could care less if you ever log onto the internet again. The point is that more and more big, successful companies are starting to take advantage of these tools. Whether or not Hatvol chooses to use them is an entirely different story. I know it has to be so hard for you to understand that the world doesn't revolve around you.

It's techno loving geeks like you who think the world revolves around the cute little innovations you worship. Some of us are simply skilled enough that we don't need your beloved techno trash.

Go talk to some of your salespeople and report back what sources they use to find leads, prospects, etc. I am sure there is some usage of these as tools (i.e., I have found a few good contacts/prospects on Linkedin). However, I would bet over 90% of their sources are still the more traditional methods.

How dare you question the power of technology? Heretic.

Facebook is useful only for looking at pictures of hot college chicks you meet in class to find out if they are easy. At least that's what I hear it's good for. :whistling:

If you need to look at pictures on the internet to make that assessment about a woman, you're probably already out of the game.

:birgits_giggle: There are a multitude of cliches applicable here. Strike while the iron is hot, early bird gets the worm, if you snooze you lose and so on and so on and so on..

Who knows? I suspect these social networking sites are selling advertising just like Yahoo, Volnation, etc. etc. Is it the end all be all of advertising.....no. Will the internet continue to take more market share from newspapers, television, and radio? I think so. Therefore as these sites grow, so will their demand from advertisers to use their ad space.

It's silly both to call it advertising for the new millenium or panhandling. The true answer IMO is somewhere in the middle of those two.

SP is not UT basketball material. If he gets his feelings hurt because someone points it out so be it. :eek:k:

Yet you spend an immense amount of your time posting on a college basketball team forum? Last I checked, online forums are a part of this "techno trash" you speak of. By all means, if you really mean what you say, then stop posting on this forum altogether. It would be doing us all a huge favor.

You're probably right. I have never said that it was completely taking over all forms of pr, advertising, etc... I only said that it's an increasingly growing area that more and more companies are starting to take advantage of.

No, read again. Pearl Jr. made a comment on his facebook page. Several folks pointed out the irony of his comments. You turned it into a referendum on facebook and implied that we are too old and "ignorant" to understand these "unique marketing tool". I suspect that I have forgotten more than you know. I certainly understand context.

All of you folks dogging facebook are really showing your age as well as ignorance. It has actually evolved into a unique marketing tool and many businesses are starting to get more involved in taking advantage of social media. ChaCha, facebook, twitter, youtube...all examples of new avenues that companies are taking to drive sales. Just google "web 2.0" if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Look, read the statement you bolded and then read my original quote. Nothing in bold is inaccurate or untruthful.

I don't care if anyone believes me or not. I'm done with this asinine thread.

that's funny as hell.

Little Pearls facebook status should read "Getting some practice in during the offseason. Hopefully I won't be out of place and look like an idiot IF I see any game time next season."

The fact of the matter is, internet message boards are a great way for fans to share information and thoughts. Some of the most die hard UT fans are regular posters on these boards. Not too many people care enough to follow UT athletics as much as we do. Its a hobby that takes up maybe 30 mins of my life daily but its just like reading the sports page, only far more in depth. Little Pearl is still young and showing a bit of immaturity by calling out some of his most supportive fans. There is nothing wrong with reading what others have wrote on these boards.
