stock market was up today...

Why are bonds so expensive?

Fed intervention keeping rates artificially low as they ramped up spending, another round of QE. A lot of investors jumped into them at the onset of Covid as the market tanked (flight to safety). Bond ETF inflows lately bear that out. All things equal, we should be seeing lower priced bonds, higher yields with the equities markets being relatively healthy. This is a distortion of the markets IMO. Apparently the gold/silver bugs don’t like this much either. Personally, I don’t own any bonds in my portfolio largely due to the lack of yield and timeline wise, I’m not there yet.

With the positive jobs data out today for July and the apparent stalemate in political talks, the odds of the current round of fed coronavirus funding just went down significantly.

How much longer can the stock market defy gravity without it?

What do you mean? It's making ongoing purchases, isn't it?

I'm talking about the proposed legislation following up the CARES Act.

Dems seeking $3.5 TRILLION. GOP wants $1.0 trillion.

Basically, it's the "We're officially a Welfare State" declaration.

Oh, thought you meant the Fed.

Yeah.

If it passes, I'll just quit my job, sit at home, eat bonbons, gain 40 pounds, bitch about Trump, drink too much, regret having quit my job, drink more, eat more, bitch about Trump, post on VN, question the meaning and purpose of life, write a French novel about true love from the perspective of a grasshopper, enter a mental institution, burn it down, bitch more about Trump...

Probably more.

All fake.

Trump does not want a deal so he can claim he had to step in. Already tweeting.

He could do the deal and step in afterwards anyway...reducing the payroll tax. What working taxpayer doesn't want more money? Democrats are stupid. Now, Trump is the one giving the marginal taxpayer and voter more money in a time of need.

The stock market is banking on a booming economy once COVID19 is contained.

Trump isn't as bad as GWB. We are still dealing with the ramifications of that administration.
cough cough....... Patriot act.
Define "honorable conservative".

The rehabilitation of Bush in the media has to be PSYOP-- cause if I accepted the truth, that people are this stupid and short sighted then it really is hopeless.
How is this happenning??-- I guess GWB managed to maintain the "poor dumb idiot being manipulated by evil cheney" impression throughout his presidency which somehow kept every rube saying "i'm not sure i agree with him on everything but you know he'd be fun to grab a beer with". What we're seeing now is the fact that his bumpkin act paid off, as he is now inexplicably the folksy representative of the old GOP.

One could easily argue that he is objectively worse than trump--- For one, trump is not a war criminal. By this time in Bush's presidency we were knee-deep in both Afghanistan and Iraq. The Iraq war was a unmitigated catastrophe based on lies and half-truths --like a second, dumber Vietnam. Second, the patriot act was a direct assault on civil liberties. And this is no testament to Trump--It's easy to be a less destructive/destabilizing president than Bush was.

Always remember the establishment on the right and some on the neoliberal left don't think foreign adventurism or surveillance-state tactics are disqualifying. The person directly responsible for the national security state and Forever War on Terror calls out drump for "fear mongering"--- This is funny--The guy who said you're either with us or with the terrorists ---was this not divisive??? The Bush administration rammed through congress changing the name of French fries to freedom fries because the meany French pissed off GW. Bush was convinced to murder a million people based on a dream of some kind of "flowering of democracy" in the Mideast FFS. After 9/11 he disappeared for like 2 days. Abu Ghraib---anyone? The war terror really destroyed America’s image in the world. The US enjoyed a massive amount of international sympathy after 9/11 and we absolutely squandered it.
DIVISIVE: GWB cynically made gay marriage bans one of the center pieces of his re-election campaign so he could get evangelicals to turn out. I won't even begin to describe his response to Katrina, politicizing stem cell research, smearing John McCain in South Carolina. HELL, they gave Obama the Peace Prize just for not being Bush. This is divisive. This is incompetence personified.

Even with 160,000 US deaths from COVID-19, Trump has nothing on Bush's body count in Iraq alone. Trump outside of the disastrous Coronavirus response is really doing the regular plutocratic GOP stuff: tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, privatization of public lands and resources, appointing judges that violate half the population's bodily autonomy to repay evangelicals, disregarding accelerating climate change., exploding the deficit, graft and corruption, nepotism, enriching the family in office. Trump’s one redeeming feature has been that he hasn’t started any wars. Trump is a vulgarian narcissist from Queens, and Bush is a Brahmin from Kennebunkport so I guess we have to rehabilitate the village idiot.

Trump as a natural conclusion of the past 40 years of "conservative"/ neo-liberal governance. We are a spoiled silly country that elected two absolute buffoons in the last 20 years and a drone-happy neolib. The world would be a different place today without the Iraq War.
