Should Vol fans storm the court when we beat a top 5 team?

When I played football, my coach always told us to "act like you've been there before" when we scored a TD or did something "sportscenter worthy." I just think this is a great mindset because when you show class after you win, it looks to everyone else like "we knew were awesome and we knew we were going to win" even if, in reality, you didn't. :twocents:

During the game the players should absolutely follow the "act like you've been there before" rule. But once it's over, party like hell.

Just goes to show you that the rule-makers in sports can't tell the difference between acts of violence and acts of happiness. Violence should be prevented. Celebration should be encouraged.

it's to keep it from happening; all it takes is one fan bumping into an angry player from the other team or an angry prick of a fan to get in his face, one hit and it all goes to hell in a handbasket

it's also not just an SEC thing; the NCAA came up with it and told each conference to monitor it along with them (you can feasibly get fined by both)

I think they're trying to prevent one from becoming the other in this case.

I agree. I think VolWonder should do just that if we beat Arkansas at home.

He thinks $25,000 is no big deal for the university. Let’s see how much of a big deal an arrest and $250 fine is to him.

It’s easy to spend other people’s money. Just ask the politicians.

Obviously lots of Debbie Downers in this thread have never won a big game as the underdog.

VolDad, I guess you didn't see. Kiffin went to USC and Tyler Smith was booted. How could personally being arrested be any worse?

Storming the court is for teams who can't hope for anything other than the occasional upset win.

no we have; but there's no reason to either hurt the university or make it worse on the student fans in the future because of one game

Well I guess I will just start being a fan that never celebrates any win b/c its expected.

My eyes are opened, what was I thinking, we are just that d*** good.

I recorded and watched the Len Bias 30 for 30 the other night. Several games from the 1986 season showed the Maryland fans storming the court after conference wins. I guess they only hoped to win an occasional upset.

The best solution is to storm the bars and celebrate the rest of the evening. I always found a better seat at the bar(also earlier)than the field/court storming crowd.:yahoo:

Be the trend setter. Storm the court.

Or did you change your mind when you learned there might be consequences that affect you. Funny how that works.

Give me a break. The university pisses away $25K regularly. And even if money was the issue, then Hamilton and the other ADs should grow a backbone and tell Slive/Foley to suck it. They could at least allow for a segment of the students to run out and celebrate a great home win with their peers - the players.

or you can just not do it because....it's against the rules

it gets the university punished

and in some stadiums you can get arrested by the security for it

look, first off, you do it too much; they start increasing security and the students start losing privileges

second, every school is actual hurt monetary wise right now; I go to a school that had an endowment of $4 billion; most of that is money already spent; when the economy went to ****, the school lost 25% of that...so they lost a quarter of what was almost nearly all spent; i guarantee you if they got hit like that, UT's got hurt too; that said,

that much money is less available to just spend or throw around as it used to be a few years back with most of these schools; especially if it's all coming from one department

as someone earlier said; that's $25,000 that could be used towards recruiting or improving facilities or even upkeeping the stadium (which you know has to cost alot)

but main thing; it's currently against the rules

oh he'll change his mind, the question is will it be before or after he hits the ground after being tackled

IMO, we have achieved a high enough status in hoops by now that storming the court should be below our fans. I don't attend that many basketball games, but my seats for football are down near the field, and I always get a good laugh when they trot out the hundred or so cops to ring the field after the game. If the crowd decides they are going to rush the field, its going to happen, and an additional 50-100 cops are going to stop THOUSANDS of people, so if the day ever comes where it looks like a possibility at a FB game, for everyones safety, the cops may as well not come out there. And I'm pretty sure no one, especially students go through the thought process, "I would like to rush the field/court, but it's going to cost my school 25k if we do, so I guess i'll just stay in my seat". The fine seems kind of stupid, as it paints the universities in a corner, I'm sure they don't want to pay the fine, but at the same time they can't deploy a swat team to enforce the rule, and even still the SEC can't afford to have cops beating down, or tear gassing students and fans on national TV just to enforce a "no celebrating on the court" rule.

Act like you've been there before, NEVER STORM THE COURT.

It was acceptable for us in the past, we are moving on to bigger and better things.

Storming the court is for Cinderella teams.
