Strong to Texas

So apparently he told his coaches today no decision has been made. Sounds like deja vu.

Some of them might not be making the move.

AAS reports that Strong had a 4-hour interview, after which he began calling select members of Mack's staff to see if they would stay.

We offered Strong $4 million per year. It had nothing to do with money. He didn't want to coach in the SEC and had understandable concerns over the disconnect between our academic administration and our athletic dept.

true on the $4mil. plus a chance to coach in the strongest conference in the country, with the largest recruiting budget in the country, and great facilities that are undergoing additional upgrades. there had to be a strong (no pun intended) disincentive and i suspect that the bolded part and its ramifications are what chased CS away. the party line is that the racism in knoxville was the deciding factor, but i'm not buying that.

charlie may sound dumb but if he in fact lands the texas gig he must actually be pretty sharp. or lucky. or both.

What a world we live in that a coach with one BSC bowl game appearance is offered $5 million/year.

I would argue that we do not have a disconnect between athletics and academics. Quite the contrary, as in the academic side has too much involvement in athletcs.
