Sunseri... talk about an anticlimactic hire.

It's also better press...

WE get the NC coach who's players just shut LSU out instead of the ex Miami coach who was fired.

A baseball analogy if I may. With 1 out, bottom of the ninth, runner in scoring postition firmly on second base, Dooley steps to the plate and hits a sac fly to advance the runner to third. The bad news is we needed a single to the outfield which could have scored the runner on second to win the game. The good news is there's still one out with Sunseri coming to the plate...

Will Sunseri pan out, maybe... maybe not. But one thing is for sure, it's certainly far from the homerun hire this fan base and recruiting class needed. Dooley had an opportunity to invoke excitement back into the program and fanbase with the hire of a PROVEN DC. Instead we're once again hiring (for whatever reason, money, lack of interest due to the one-and-done likelihood of Dooley's tenure) a "lotsa potential" guy. How'd that work out for Fulmer when he hired Clawson? Insanity.

As a side bonus, with this hire he's managed to piss off one of the program most loyal coaches and proven recruiters (Lance Thompson).

The dumpster fire that is the current state of our football program sadly.... blazes on.

:twocents:

:whatever:

As GAVol said in another thread,

Any time Volnation discusses the merits of an assistant coach - just ignore.

So we pull a PROVEN winner off a NC team who has (again) a Proven track record and promote him one level up to DC and this is a dud hire????

The guy is also one of the top recruiters in the league.

Here's how this conversation goes wit recruits?

Wanna win a NC? I have and UT has and together we will win another with players like you.

Wanna know what it feels like to shut a team out of a bowl game? I know what it feels like.

Oh and her's my resume of players I've helped get to the first round in the NFL.

Pulls out list a mile long and watches it roll down the living room floor and into the carpet.

Any questions????

This guy could end up being BETTER than Shannon.

That's a persuasive argument. +1 to you Elmer Fudd.

VolBeef, I get the feeling you don't like Dooley very much?

It has nothing to do with whether I like him or not. I think he seems to be a good guy. But I think he was hired to do a job that's above him. I don't blame him for taking the gig. It's a great job and the $ is good. So it's not on him.
I laugh at those who fall all over themselves and cannot look beyond their emotional connection to UT and therefore they fail to see that DD is NOT the guy that will take us where we want to be. And they defend EVERY move he makes no matter what and bash anyone who dares to point it out. That's what I dislike.

He'd bring in some players which is more than half the battle. I really wish they'd get someone in place before the better players in this class start looking around, if they aren't already.

Would you please show us some posts of people legitimately praising him as you always claim. I think you ignorantly claim this about people that don't share your view. Just because people disgaree with your assessment of Dooley, at this point, doesn't mean they are praising them. It could be an issue with your contextual understanding, or lack thereof. It could be you think in nothing but absolute extremes. At least provide proof of your assessment of those you claim to be slurpers. IF not, you should really STFU

You do the same exact thing to anyone who likes Dooley or is waiting to form an opinion until after this season. Hypocrite.

We will have a DC before visitors arrive Friday.

You don't have to look very far. Just a few before your post. NEOCON is a fine example.
Most of us who realize DD is in over his head give him credit when he does well. Example is bringing in Wilcox, that was a good hire. The difference is that you slurpers wet your panties everytime he makes a move and defend him no matter what.

Several Dooley supports have said the Kentucky game was horrible coaching. When have you ever said anything good about Dooley's coaching or abilities?

On the flip side, there are those in the opposite camp that have an opposite opinion and they see that DD IS the guy "that will take us where we want to be". Of course both camps can't be right and We both know what opinions are. That being said, let's @ least agree to disagree without splitting up the checkerboard.

The one thing I do love is the fact that he was 247s national recruiter of the year, inb4edo...blah balh blah, as long as he is good at scheming and coaching having top talent will bring our defense to an elite level.

Let's not jump ahead here hot rod. Let him have a winning season first. Then we'll talk.

I'm not saying that noone has the right to hate him. What I AM saying is that there are people that made up their minds, before he had ever coached a game, that they hated him and would hate him even IF he won 10 games next year. And it's not that I LOVE the guy, but I believe ANY coach should get at least three years. Especially if they walk into what Dooley walked into. That said, if we don't have a winning season next year I'm done with Dooley. I really expect 8 wins. If we have only 7 wins but are VERY competitive in other games against quality opponets then maybe I'm still on board. Bottom line is that I, like everyone else, expect to see major improvement over last year.

I'm interested. Who has defended him no matter what?

I don't know that the "in over his head" description is necessarily inaccurate. He inherited a program that had had 3 consecutive recruiting class busts: 07-09. The roster was pretty close to what you would expect from a school that had received the NCAA death penalty. I don't think there's a coach in the country including Lord Saban who could have won in that scenario... and the proof of that is pretty simple. No one with a better resume would touch the job. Dooley is in over his head pretty much because anyone else would be.

I have absolutely no problem with seeing him held accountable. I have a big problem with seeing him fired for things done by Fulmer and Kiffin... or more specifically "not done" by Fulmer and Kiffin.

The problem with you is that you consistently spew hate without considering what Dooley took over. Worse yet, you do it fully knowing that your comments could hurt recruiting which hurts the program with or without Dooley.

Like everyone else on this site I was very surprised MH hired him. Even the slurpers were surprised. The idea that UT would settle for a guy with a career losing record in the WAC didn't set well with me as I expect better. I spoke my disappointment about the hire and hoped I was wrong about the hire. So far I have not been.
Since coming on board we have had back to back losing seasons for the first time, we lost to KY for the first time in damn near 30 years and coaches and players are jumping ship. Tell me why he is above criticism like so many slurpers seem to think?
