Yeah, I think we were about even with bama in wins and losses against each other a few years ago. How is that working out now? Stoops seems to be a good coach and ky. Recruiting looks better every year. We have a deep hole to dig out of. Hope we do it soon.
I respect what Shoop (s/b Stoops, thanks @butchna ) has done. I think he's a good coach. I think he has a plan and is working that plan. His plan is to be a 2nd tier program and stay employed. That may be realistic or not... but it is effective for him. He's going to recruit 2nd tier players from now on. I'm not sure he even wastes his time going after a lot of elite players. He coaches them up in his system. His system is designed to beat certain opponents and styles of play. They play a version of the style of play Pruitt and Fulmer wanted to play... but they actually do it reasonably well.UK recruiting is exactly the same every for the last like 6 years- in the 30s - except for last year they landed at 25. Wouldn’t really say it looks better every year.
It’s like some folks are just making up things to fit their narrative up in here. Kinda reminds me of something. Can’t quite put my finger on it.UK recruiting is exactly the same every for the last like 6 years- in the 30s - except for last year they landed at 25. Wouldn’t really say it looks better every year.

My guess is that Shoop can do exactly what he's doing from now on... and retire from UK. Not counting last year, he averaged 7.6 wins per season in the previous 5. Including last year he's been to 5 consecutive bowl games. He's consistently "good"... which is good enough for UK fans.
Texas tech and Washington state bruh. His system is filtering up. And variants like briles at Baylor, has had some really good teams. Running yardage is easier with very wide splits.I dont believe Leach has won a conference championship and certainly has never been a consistent contender for conference or national honors. He's been a 7-4, 7-5 coach majority of his career, beating the average to bad teams consistently. I was speaking of winning conference championships, something this program used to think of. Thats why i referenced Saban, Bryant and Spurrier, all consistent winners of SEC championships. In no stretch of even Mike Leach's imagination does he consider himself in that category.

The briles variant is more similar to what we will run.
Eventually an elite team will start running it and dominate
At least Baylor level talent. But occasionally the Texas techs will beat a Texas. The offense just uses more of the field. Combine with hurry up and it's a tough out. Get some decent players after a few years and we will see some juggernauts . Bama starting to implement some of this already. So you’re saying that talent will be needed to win championships? That was my point in the first place. I’ll stay with the philosophy Saban Bryant & SOS use.
That’s been the conversation for going on 12 years now. Eventually I guess people will give up but every year it’s......”we can dig ourselves out of this”Because this is Tennessee, we can dig out of the hole much faster IF we get the right coach. Heupel is the best hire we have made in a long time imo. We'll find out soon.
But UT isn't "cursed". Other good coaches haven't come here because they didn't want to lose to Nick Saban and Alabama every year.
Kiffin with all his coaching ability is not a stable hire. Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt speak for themselves.
We still may continue to lose to Alabama, but the days of losing to UK, Vandy, South Carolina periodically are over.
Coaches will continue to get fired it’s not like matters all that muchPlease don't compare Bama and Kentucky. We've had a historically bad run since Dooley was hired and are 9-2 against Kentucky. Stoops is 2-6 against UT and beat them in the final years that coaches got fired. He has a one game winning streak. Total overreaction by some on here.
After getting fired at Oklahoma, Heupel spent some quality time in Waco studying Briles offense and since has put his own stamp on that interpretation. Have always wondered what an Air Raid offense with a legit running game could produce...especially with SEC level talent. When it seemed like we were hiring Leach, his recruiting and disregard for the rushing game were the only factors giving me pause. At least Baylor level talent.
