Syrian Kurds are close to declaring Independence

Specifically, what national boundaries are we helping protect? What line do we draw and tell the Turks "not here, leave these people alone"?

At what point are we picking sides (again) in a civil war?

How do we protect a nationless people against a Treaty ally?

The same way we know which ones to go ask for help fighting the Islamic State. The same way we know where they built prison camps to house thousands of captured ISIS combatants. The same way we knew which Kurds to designate as the custodians of those combatants.

This isn’t that difficult.

Any outlet who talks about Syria without providing maps is not being honest...the way people talk the US is the only country in Syria...we had 2k advisors...maybe they have trained the forces and have completed their mission?
The issue isn't how many U.S. troops are there, it's whether or not Turkey is being deterred from crossing into Kurdish territory.

Lol

You probably shouldn't ever say Middle East politics "aren't difficult."

True damned if he does, damned if he doesn't situation.

If he keeps US troops in between the Turks and Kurds, who will be shooting at each other with or without us there, he's going to get screeched at for proving a NATO ally.

If he withdraws, you get the current reaction.

I truly feel bad for the Kurds here. They are a great people and one of the few allies in the region and deserve there own country, after this I'm not sure how any Middle East partner can trust us. The Kurds have answered the call every time we've needed them and each time we kick them in the balls after we're done. Plus the fact we're doing this to appease Erdoğan fricking sucks.

What choice did the Kurds have?

Once again, our Nation's best interests and our President's best interests are not one in the same.

WINNER: President's business in Turkey.

LOSER: The rest of us. Especially the Kurds who likely will be slaughtered by Turkey.

Yea protecting an oppressed people is so damn bad.
The Kurds didn't become an oppressed people until we started arming them and using them as a militia against whatever entity we were warring with at the time. They would have been better off had we left them alone.

What choice did we have Syria told us to get out that they could control their borders...we can't demand they divide the country into Syria and Kurdistan

Tell me again why we should listen to anything Assad has to say after the brutality he imposed on his own people.

It's not our country or our fight...what are we gonna do let the Kurds declare Independence and fight a civil war to the South while Turkey shoots toward us from the North? What is the endgame to us continuing to stay there for years?

Assad was elected and the people there dont seem to mind him being in power. Only the western funded militias and Israel seem to have an issue with him.
