Syrian Kurds are close to declaring Independence

Yep. There was no good answer ANY president could pick here. I’m glad the one in place chose get our people out of the line of fire. I see no reason to attach it directly to Trump. At this point I would hope whomever is in place would have chosen to not get into yet another damn conflict, with this one even having deep long ethnic back story. Oh hell no.

The fact that is it Trump whom chose to do it, which is in line with his campaign statements to get us out of the ME, just sends their leftist heads spinning and spitting pea soup and making them overnight war hawks.

Some where John McCain is looking up from a hot sauna and smiling.
Your last line is a head scratcher. John McCain is spinning in his grave knowing that his Syrian jihadists are no longer getting American support.

McCain probably wasn’t a good usage. I was just thinking war hawk anti Trump. McCain was the first name that popped in my head.

the United States was always going to leave Syria. If the Americans were unwilling to commit 100,000 troops to the overthrow of Syria’s Assad government and its subsequent forcible reconstruction, then there was little reason to become involved in a decades-long, grinding multi-sided civil war.

The primary reason American forces remain in Syria at this point is to limit Iranian penetration. That battle was lost six years ago when then-President Obama allowed the Syrian government to cross Obama’s own red line on the use of chemical weapons against Syrian civilians. Obama made it crystal clear that any U.S. military action would be small scale, focused on Special Operations Forces, and largely dedicated to backing up the Syrian Kurds. Whether under Obama or Trump, an American withdrawal has always been inevitable. It’s just taken seven years of Syrian-Russian-Iranian victories on the battlefield and the large-scale dismemberment of the ISIS Caliphate to make it imminent.

It should have never been our concern to begin with.

If Trump would have left the troops in place and we ended up fighting Turkey because some were killed they would be bitching he didn't pull them out.
If the Troops has been left in place the Turks wouldn’t have moved a muscle.

dont be obtuse, its because of ish like this
Four Americans Killed, Three Wounded, in Syria Bomb Blast

no reason for us to be there. no reason for your brothers in arms to be dead because of this. I know approx 30 active military guys, I would say about half are boots on ground types. None of them want to be involved over there at all. most have no clue what purpose they even serve, or who they are protecting. The Turks from the Kurds? The Kurds from the Syrians and Turks?

we have spent how many thousands of lives? How much security and stability have we actually brought? we cant stay indefinitely.
Your talking to a person who was nearly killed in a IED blast.

Stop this lunacy. They fired on our position last Friday. They laid 155 on both sides of the base. If we aren’t willing to return fire then we need to leave. And we damn well better not be willing to return fire over this crap.

More from Zeihan:

Turkey and the United States have been pulling apart for three decades. In a world where Soviet containment is the end-all be-all, the alliance was everything. Remove the Soviet threat, however, and the Turks have interests in the Balkans, Caucasus, Persia, Mesopotamia and the Levant that have next to nothing to do with American interests. Turkey is reasserting itself as a major regional power, and since the American military position in places like northern Iraq and Syria are largely dependent upon supply routes through Turkey, there is no long-term American strategic position in these regions without express Turkish assistance. That assistance has been removed, so the Americans – regardless of domestic policy preferences – have no choice but to leave.

everything about this is true except for the fact that U.S. supply lines don’t run through Turkey they run through Iraq. The Turks refused to open their borders to our supply lines.

Really? Putin is Hitler or Stalin?

What have you been drinking smoking?
I would agree that’s a mental stretch too far. He is a gangster scum bag. He is someone who loves to jail dissenters. And quite frankly, if he were our president you would **** a brick. But you love to give him a pass.

And that makes you hungry for more?

Our troops were there, tensions were still rising. All we did was weaken the Kurds and give Turkey and Syria time to deal with ISIS first before turning on the Kurds.
