Syrian Kurds are close to declaring Independence

George Bush is a Nazi war criminal! Obama is a Nobel peace prize winner! How dare Donald Trump withdrawal US troops from the Middle East!
😭😭😭

Cry more libs
This was the bi-partisan statement from Congress on the withdrawal of U.S. troops from northern Syria: "The Administration's announcement regarding Syria is a misguided and catastrophic blow to our national security interests." You don't see much agreement anymore... but this time, you definitely did.

Trump is weak and feckless with diplomacy.

This wasn't Trump's war or situation he created in the first place. This round of fighting in the Middle East since the Arab Spring falls squarely on the shoulders of Hillary Clinton's State Department during the Obama administration. Hillary got us involved in everything from Ukraine to Syria to Libya and has made a mess of everything that we touched.

How is any of this relevant? Quitting now allows our enemies to grow much stronger, negating all of the gains our troops and allies have accomplished.

"Bbbuuutt Obama and Hillary", good god...

How does the continued support of the Kurds and eventual formation of a Kurdish state benefit the average American?

Uh, damn near everyone is condemning this - of course, it's no surprise that the red hat sycophants of VN aren't. Probably (and like trump) you don't understand what the ramifications are.
Just because a majority of people think one way about something, that doesn't make the majority right.

Absolutely. You can be opposed to endless wars and also realize that’s this is a stupid, selfish, shortsighted move.

@golfballs stated it was the "libs", I responding to that. You can tell be the way I quoted his post, paying attention to context is important.

Literally everybody with a scintilla of experience or information about this subject is saying this was a mistake. Even the ones who haven’t come up for air since going down on Trump in 2018.

You’re out on a limb by yourself on this one.

Democrats oppose it because Trump did it. That's not a new development as they oppose everything he does.

Republicans are opposing it because they are warmongering fools.

The military is opposing it because it continues to give them a job by sending Americans on yet another endless adventure in the a-hole of the planet.

Yes, I support bringing the troops out of a place where we didn't belong in the first place. Deal with it.

Maybe, this is the new normal. We're not fighting a nation, it's an ideology - can't kill that.

Would you rather have the fight on their shores or ours?

I fully support going over and kicking someone in the teeth when they get out of line.

I don't support endless occupations that don't turn out very well for the occupier in places like Afghanistan and Syria.

You are nothing but a lickspittle Trumpette. No president with any sense of right and wrong would abandon our Kurdish allies, who helped defeat ISIS. Congressional Republicans and Democrats know this but our morally bankrupt president can't figure it out. I wonder if Trump is more worried about his Turkish hotel than human lives?

Can you do me a favor? Go find out how many arms shipments made it to the Kurds under Obama and let me know.

Thanks.

We should follow the advice of the founders.

“Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto.” Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was literally in favor of a pro French alliance and wanted the U.S. to enter the war of Revolution in Europe.

It's a global war on terrorism. I prefer they keep it on that side of the globe.

Only a fool thinks we can play defense and win this fight.

I agree the best defense is a good offense.

Now, answer me this...

Exactly what have we accomplished in the 18 years of occupation in Afghanistan? What was the outcome of 7 years of occupation in Iraq? What will be the end outcome of 5+ years of occupation in Syria?

Why are we occupying nations where the outcome can be predetermined as "we're going to spend an inordinate amount of money and treasure for zero gain because they really just don't want us there"? You've been there, done that and you damn well know like I do nothing will be gained by continual occupation of nations at civil war. I supported the strikes against ISIS and even putting SOF teams on the ground to take out high value targets. I also supported giving the Kurds the weapons they needed to defend themselves (I keep asking that question that's getting dodged) when they were the only fighting force that had a chance against ISIS.

I don't support following up with ground troops with no end in sight. Go over and kick their ass, absolutely. Occupy them? No.

"The Administration's announcement regarding Syria is a misguided and catastrophic blow to our national security interests."

I'd ask Congress to publicly defend the "national security interests" comment.

Exactly what National Security Interest do we have in Northern Syria?

Our policy in the mideast is a mess. This seems to be the one area where our democracy has failed. Bush committed us to long term military support in Iraq and Afghanistan with his wars for "regime change" and Clinton furthered it with the Arab Spring. Trump's just making it worse by reneging on our commitments to develop the governments of the region by withdrawing the military support to let the warlords take control again. I don't like the idea of being involved over there at all, but once you've committed yourself to the path of "lifting the burqa" I think you need to stick to it and work over the period of decades it would require to make longer term ideological changes in the region.

Like I said: Dunning-Kruger.

You're more than welcome to answer the question @RockyTop85 and make me look the fool.

Continue to evade it and you prove my case it cannot be answered with a simple question. Though you thought "this is all simple."

Why, when you do such a good job of making yourself look like a fool? You’re attributing all these motives to other people and then admit you haven’t even considered what they’re saying.

What is the National Security interest in northern Syria?
Starts with an “I” and rhymes with “sis” and it isn’t “I banged your sis.”

There is also a doctrinal element to national security. Showing weakness and abandoning allies are both doctrines that don’t undermine national security.
