Tajh Boyd

I think a lot of people assume all dual threat QB's are average passers that are great runners. That's not the case with Boyd. He's probably one of the better passers in the country.

Wasn't he the 3rd most accurate? According to rivals?

Stop saying Boyd is a scrambler or dual threat. It says on his scout profile "He is more pocket passer than dual-threat." Yes he is mobile but he is a pocket passer, 26 tds to 6 picks last year. It seems all some posters know is he is a black qb so they say he is a dual-threat and imply he is not a good passer. All his recruiting profiles rave about his passing but say he can run but they do not classify him as a dual-threat. Like some one else said think Donovan McNabb. McNabb has had great passing numbers in the NFL but can or could run.

Hey dummie, ever hear of Heath Shuler? Hell, even Crompton was considered a dual-threat QB before thie year. I can also think of a couple black NFL QB's who are not dual-threat QB's. So what's your point there black panther?

I don't see how Kiffin would tell Boyd anything other than he is a perfect fit for his offense and sell him on that. It's not like we have a better prospect on our radar for this class or one that's a better fit for Kiffin's offensive style.

One of Kiffin's next trips better be to Hampton to talk to this kid and get him securely on the boat.

i agree with this post. i hope some light is shed on this subject, soon.

Isn't Boyd practically penciled as first QB on the depth chart?

I almost said starter, but then remembered that Kiffin said no one is a starter at this point.

Boyd would have had to compete no matter who the coach was going to be. Some around here have been penciling him in as the starter, but I think that too is premature.

That's only fair. If Eric Berry has to compete for his position, anyone coming to UT should expect to do the same. As a Frosh, what more could one want?

I live in Hampton and he is still committed to UT. He is much more elusive than he is quick, makes guys miss rather than outrunning them. Ive been to every one of his games and because Pheobus High is so huge on line and has a good RB they dont have to pass much but when he does he is spot on and excellent touch on the deep ball. He is the real deal and wants to be in a pro style offense and not a spread. I think he will fit in perfect with what Kiffin wants to do in the coming years on offense. Look out, his name will be one everyone remembers after his years in orange, mark it down.

Ok smart ass. My point is he is not a scrambler and people were implying he was not an accurate passer or wont make good decisions questioning if he can run a pro-style offense. Some one even said he should go were someone runs a spread when he is not going to WVU because he wants a pro style O and not the spread. These comments show that all some know is he is a black QB and dont know anything about his skills. Also his scout profile says he is a pocket passer.

I still think Terrell Pryor's style at OSU this season is the right way to think about a Boyd-directed offense.

not at all pryor hasnt proven he can throw the ball down field any better than uncle rico....boyd has gotten he high ranking because of his arm and feet, the only reason anyone knew of pryor in high school was because of his scrambling

Part of TP's play is an adjustment to the college game. His arm strength looks fine to me, especially as a Frosh. He'll throw more deep balls next season, but TP is running a pro-style offense quite effectively for a Frosh. I don't think it would be fair to expect much more than what TP has done from a Freshman QB.

The fact that both can turn the ball upfield is not a knock on either, but instead it's a positive attribute.

This thread has some basic TP stats:

Btw... TP was first in passing accuracy coming out of HS.

Over on rivals, it has been said by a Rivals Recruiting Analyst that Boyd was told by Kiffen that we were going a different direction and he should look elsewhere.

Wonder if it's true...

Per Mike Farrell on Rivals, CLK has called Boyd's father and told him he was going in a different direction and that Tajh is now setting up a visit to BC.

I under the impression that Hammy told CLK he had to honor all committments.

I'm not sure if I believe this but this comes from a poster on Volquest.

I would imagine its true. This came about yesterday. I just don't see how CLK can drove a guy like this unless he had another guy in mind. I mean qb is a pretty big need. There are going to be some pissed off fans who were really excited about Boyd.
