I think it’s clear this staff with its style of offense is going to give us many many 7-9 wins seasons… I also think we are never going to win more than 10. I don’t think this offense is ever avoiding the stinker type outings we saw today and at Florida… it’s just two built In losses.

From my seat watching the Vols in 80s-present I’m never going to be upset with 8-9 win years so I am voting take it. Jmo
umm we won 11 last year!

I don’t agree with this assessment. Heupel is going to get us back to the top and championships.

But I voted “leave it” IF 10-2 was the ceiling. Tennessee should always be competing for championships.

No sir …. We won 10 …

It’s hilarious that posters are asking me if I can count when they obviously can’t count themselves.

If one can count to 12 it’s clear this entire topic is based on a 12 game regular season ….

10+2=12

7+5=12

Math class is dismissed

I’ll take it, but I’m nowhere near as passionate about UT football as I used to be, even during last year’s run. I don’t see a scenario where I’m ever as emotionally and financially invested as I once was.

And after all of the bonehead decisions UT has made over the last 20 years, I’m surprised they’re doing as well as they are now…

Facts are facts. He was a great coach with a ton a talent on his team. He made a change at DC and won 1 NC, same s Fulmer.

Spurrier got one NC in 10 seasons and left for the NFL. Fulmer got one in 15 and a half years and got fired by his Alma mater when it was obvious that he couldn’t win without Cutcliffe. They’re not the same.

Saban at MSU:

6 wins
6 wins
7 wins

Was his ceiling 7 wins?

Saban at LSU:
7 wins
9 wins (since by your rules postseason doesn’t count)
8 wins

Obviously he’s capped out at 9.

Moral of the story: putting the ceiling of a coach at what he’s done in the first three years is a silly, futile exercise. Heupel absolutely has a higher than 10 win ceiling.

You can’t just look at those numbers alone. You need to look at what Mich state was before Saban got there and the same with LSU.

JH has a track record at UCF of seeing a program on the decline…. Without the decline of UCF I think your overall point of only using 3 years at Tenn to determine a ceiling is fair but we do have the obvious trend at UCF and it wasn’t good

It wasn't the offense. It was the defense not being able to get the ball to the offense enough to wear down Mizzou's defense.

Maybe a little of both but it’s clear that when this style offense can’t run the ball it’s not going to be successful. I can’t think of a single game where it has been successful since JH has been here where we didn’t run the ball well

It’s simply an offense that can’t win 3rd and long

This is why UT will NEVER reach its athletic potential. Most UT fans will settle for mediocrity now. Its unbelievable.
You must be a young fan, Jeffrey. Because after living through the post Fulmer years, I would take a 50-10 record over the next 5 years hands down…..

If you think 10-2 is mediocrity, you must have become one of the most recent Vol fans ever because 50 wins for the program before Heupel took all 5 years of Butch and all 3 years of Pruitt…..

You obviously weren’t around or a fan of the program during those 2 tenures if you call 10-2 mediocrity…

Now tell us how deep the league was those years??

remember we had to beat a very very average Miss state and Auburn teams to win our two SEC titles….

The league was very thin in those years
Saban’s run has been in a very “thin” SEC also. Tennessee, Florida has both sucked most of his time at Alabama. Ga got real good after Saban’s first 10 yrs (2017). He basically had to beat Les Miles- coached LSU & occasionally a good Auburn team coached by Malzhan.

He’ll move the goalpost because one win was a bowl game
It takes a lot of luck.
Ga isn’t the National Champions last year if a FG isn’t missed.
We could easily have 1 loss at this point with some luck. We could also have 5 loses right now. We’re never as good or as bad as this message board believes.
But after what I’ve seen the last 20 years, I’m sticking with this guy for a while.

Nope. No reference to regular season. Just total wins and losses compared to the past.
But you do you

No amount of luck allows us to win the florida or mizzu game

Completely outclassed those two games

But I agree I’m keeping him too
