Americans abroad aren't listening to Trump, he has no power nor access to military intelligence.

I guess you're right though, we shouldn't take Biden literally.

If they didn't "listen", that's on them - he was POTUS when he got this ball rolling and no one told them the ball stopped.

I'm not going to pretend to be outraged and feign concern over them or the Afghanis' that didn't lift a finger to stymie the Taliban takeover they had 20 years to prepare for.

EVACUATION FLIGHTS NOT GUARANTEED TO BE FREE: Even though U.S. officials tell NatSec Daily and others that evacuation flights from Kabul will be free, people trying to catch a plane in the Afghan capital say differently. One person said State Department staff were seeking large payments — up to $2,000 — from American passengers and even more from non-U.S. citizens.

When we relayed what this person told us to the State Department, a spokesperson didn’t deny that this is happening.

“U.S. law requires that evacuation assistance to private U.S. citizens or third country nationals be provided ‘on a reimbursable basis to the maximum extent practicable.’ The situation is extremely fluid, and we are working to overcome obstacles as they arise,” the spokesperson said.

In other words, the Biden administration may request payments for evacuation flights.

Exclusive: Biden's Iran envoy calls nuclear deal's fate 'one big question mark'

I will bet you whatever I can that anybody still there on official business on behalf of the U.S. government isn’t going to pay a nickel out of their own pocket for a flight out of there.

The worst military blunder ever? EVER?
When I really think about it, I guess the Trojans letting the Greeks through their gates inside a wooden horse resulting in the death and destruction of an entire city beats this. I’m not sure what having to go all the way back to antiquity says about Biden’s legacy though.

The aid workers and what not that refused when they could have easily caught a flight out…2 weeks ago even…share more of the culpability. And the Afghans or families of U.S. citizens that have had visa and paperwork problem since before Biden was even president can’t pin all this on him or the military either. There are actually very few
Americans there that were required to be on official business and are now stuck. And I would bet the mortgage almost every last one are still in the embassy or intentionally being left alone at this point.

Look, I’m not a Biden fan and I didn’t vote for him. But I really think people are just taking a lot of the sensationalist journalism at face value because the headline appeals to them and not because it is an accurate representation of what is actually happening and why.
Here's what I think.

Biden thought he could do something very popular for a win. I think he ignored the worst case scenario aspect of the quick pull out and chose it over a safer phased out over time with more fail safes built in plan.

I believe he poorly communicated/prepared the public and those abroad in Afghanistan. When it became clear dominos were falling at alarming rate another opportunity to communicate/prepare was missed. The President at no time was ahead of this, it was lead from behind.

That is where I believe without doubt he owns the failures. The intelligence issues I will not place on him at this point. He either gambled recklessly or intelligence was bad. History will determine that, I think it's likely a bit of both.

When you live in the land of hypocrisy, carry on.

What hypocrisy have I shown here, specifically?

I'm not pretending to g.a.s. about any of this.

Not about the US civilians or the Afghani's or the international optics that are suddenly back on the menu of things the trumpers care about again.

So again, tell me where I 've been hypocritical or take a lap.

Biden's hand was forced, he either got bad intel or ignored good intel - but either way getting the f out of there is a good thing. I don't care if the military had to ride Big Wheels out of there.

It's the how, not the what.

Oh I get it, I just don't believe that the people who are screeching about this would have been anywhere near as vocal if the same sh*t occurred 12 months ago. And it would have.... exactly like this.

I don't disagree that we needed out, it was overdue. The way we did it left a lot to be desired, had this been Trump or any other president they would be taking the heat, and rightfully so.

I think the original question was asking in US history, not world history.
