Joe Biden's aides were 'too afraid' to quiz him and his national security adviser Jake Sullivan over key decisions made in run-up to US withdrawal from Afghanistan

Joe Biden's aides were 'too afraid' to quiz him and his National Security Adviser over key decisions made in the run-up to the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, according to sources close to the US administration.

The President is accused of insisting on recalling US troops ahead of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington DC, and allegedly ignored warnings that it would not leave the military enough time to get American nationals and allies out.

The Sunday Telegraph reports that Biden administration officials urged the President - unsuccessfully - to keep open Bagram Air Base, which has more runways than Kabul airport and has been the heart of US operations in Afghanistan during the 20-year intervention.

Oh right, we're back to caring if other countries approve of the US conduct again.
I really don't care what other countries think of us, but are you saying you've flipped from caring under Trump to not caring under Biden? I'm just curious if you're accusing people of hypocrisy while practicing hypocrisy?

I’d prefer we weren’t all thought of as dumbasses but if that will keep their hands out of our pockets I’ll get by.

There is a huge difference in other countries thinking our CIC is a load mouth bore and them thinking our CIC is a weak incompetent dementia victim.

Again, I don't care what they think. Screw 'em.

I don't care if they think we're dumbasses. I do care that our POTUS did something incredibly stupid to put American lives at risk.
Ok that’s a better way of stating it.

But the Eurotrash should put their money where their mouth is and leave our dumb money here in the US

I would think it's more "freedom to operate" than caring what others think. If confidence in the US is reduced it's harder for the US to organize any response to strong actions by China or Russia or whoever. It is the ability to lead that gets damaged thus increasing the power of our adversaries.

But it’s more blood and treasure lost in pushing that back because the idiot clown in chief en bolded them.
Just because we have an idiot in office doesn't mean our military suddenly lost strength. Other countries know that, and they know that idiot won't be in office forever, or even past the next Presidential election.

The military can only do what the CIC orders so it matters greatly that we have an idiot in office.

This. Whether you agree with if we should have went into Afghanistan or not, it was in response to 9/11 and many of our allies came to our aid and put planes in the air, ships on the sea, and boots on the ground. If we get attacked again will they trust our government?

You would think with all the teenage girl bed wetting on here that American civilians were being slaughtered in the streets of Kabul 🙄
No, just stranded and in serious danger. While I agree some of the rhetoric is over the top the fact remains this is a humiliating and dangerous example of failed leadership at multiple levels.

Surely you don't believe this is an example of solid leadership.

He's an idiot, but if something happens, his handlers will respond. After this cluster****, he'll be more likely to listen to sound strategy. Assuming we have military leaders still capable of that. Which if we don't, we're screwed anyway.

As far as Russia or China getting "emboldened", Russia already did that with Crimea and we did basically nothing. China could potentially do that with Taiwan, and it wouldn't surprise me if we did nothing again, but I don't think it matters who the POTUS is. If China wants Taiwan, they will take it, and then we'll have to decide if it's worth WWIII.

So you disagree with Trump's decision?
