I think it's pretty obvious there were miscalculations by our government on how fast the Taliban would take over, and the Afghan war has been a cluster since the beginning so the pull out following suit is par for the course. It falls on Biden as the head guy (though how much input he actually has is up for debate, he might get to choose his jello flavor at Piccadilly), though I'm not sure how much different it would have been if Trump was in charge. I'm guessing not a huge difference but it's speculation either way. Maybe Trump's team even foresaw the shitstorm coming and that's why he didn't do it in his first term.

I will say, with Joe Biden admittedly being an idiot and obvious missteps in executing at the goal line, I think a lot of the whinging in this thread is straight up hand wringing. I think the left would be doing the same thing (probably even more so) if this happened under Trump. But I'm not seeing Americans beheaded in the streets yet. It seems like the vast majority are already out and we won't have any issues getting the rest of us out, as the Taliban doesn't want us to have any reason to stay any longer. As for civilians who are still there, I hope they get out but question their judgement on why they waited until the last second to leave. Seems pretty damn stupid to me.

I feel for the Afghan people. I feel for the innocents that will be oppressed by the Taliban, and the Afghanis that worked with us. Things would have been better for them had we never even decided to play nation builder over there to begin with. But the Afghan people have had 20 years to get their own **** together if they didn't want to be ruled by cavemen any longer. It sucks but we can't be world police anymore and we can't save every country from oppression (We've got our own populus to oppress, and who has the time!). I'm just glad we are finally getting out, despite it being pretty messy. It's time to give the gift of our absence which I'm sure various countries throughout history would have been grateful for, as our meddling hasn't seemed to work out well for anyone since after WWII. All of the European nations getting in on the handwringing can jump back in the **** pit any time if they're so worried about it. Not our problem anymore.

Just so you know the pictures in this article are wrong. I'm 99% sure the C-17 taking off picture is from Dubai, not Kabul.

Kind of brings the rest of the pictures and information into question.

For those interested, watch the video of the “Afghanis” clinging to the taxiing “C-17” when all this began and look through the “memes” section in the PF. All I’ll say is this…I have someone close to me that is an analylist…all they have said is some of the intelligence they have been gathering of the situation is “interesting to say the least”. Take that how you will.

I don't know where you're getting your news, but I watched an interview yesterday with a U.S. General who spent a total of 20 tours all over Afghanistan. He said the numbers of Americans and Afghanis that directly worked with the Americans that are still in Afghanistan likely number in the tens of thousands even if you only look at the areas of Afghanistan outside Kabul. According to this General, there is zero chance of all Americans being evacuated from Afghanistan by 8/31/2021. He projected that you would be looking at a minimum of 6K additional U.S. troops plus air support and I believe he said an additional time frame of 2-3 months minimum.

The Taliban has bigger and better things to concern themselves with. The Chinese are going to come in there and start mining those $30 trillion of minerals and actually start building infrastructure in the country. Pipelines, rail, roads, electric... Afghanistan will be a central part of the Belt and Road Project. While the US was guarding poppy fields and spreading war, the Chinese haven't fired a shot and are about to build more infrastructure projects.

TONY BLAIR: America's retreat is Imbecilic – and tells our enemies we don't have any interests or values worth defending

The abandonment of Afghanistan and its people is tragic, dangerous, unnecessary, not in their interests and not in ours.

In the aftermath of the decision to return the country to the same group from which the carnage of 9/11 arose, and in a manner that seems almost designed to parade our humiliation, the question that allies and enemies alike pose is – has the West lost its strategic will?

By that I mean, is it able to learn from experience, think strategically, define our interests strategically and on that basis commit strategically? Is 'long term' a concept we are still capable of grasping? Is the nature of our politics now inconsistent with asserting our traditional global leadership role? And do we care?

As leader of our country when we decided to join America in removing the Taliban from power in 2001, and who saw the high hopes we had of what we could achieve for the people and the world subside under the weight of bitter reality, I know better than most how difficult are the decisions of leadership and how easy it is to be critical and how hard to be constructive.

Blair of all people should really just stfu, keep his head down and hope people forget about his role in this.
It's hilarious to see both neolib and neocon ghouls coming out of the woodworks and saying the exact same stupid s**t. Rarely has been that blatant how ideologically close they are to each other.
Troops should be withdrawn--- and redeployed to Tony Blair's house.

Gullible, much? The Afghan barbarians who have turned it into the Dark Ages over the last 50 years are extremely concerned about the nation’s infrastructure.

You are the gullible one. No they DGAS about infrastructure but they do care about their fortunes and the Taliban leaders will get paid by the Chinese to let them rape their land. This is an area the Chinese have a huge advantage over us, they don’t GAS about how barbaric the people are that they work with as losing as they are getting what they want.

48k evacuated, zero Americans killed. Maybe Joe should next evacuate healthy people from Florida to save them from DeathSantis, who is more deadly to them than the Taliban.

Choices on this poll suck. Sending in troops gets all these people killed. Biden & the Demos are gonna have to pay, and pay a lot , for this shitpile to get covered up.
