"We're just going along with what the last guy was going to do" is about the worst defense I've ever heard when there are dead bodies.

Pretty sure that trump said "they tried to stop it but couldn't", which is wholly different than "we were just going along with the plan."

Did they get intelligence briefings that stated that Afghanistan would be taken over within weeks? Your complete lack of human decency that you have toward fellow American citizens says a lot about you.
Where is yours? The wars in Afg and Iraq led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands. Sorry I don't limit human decency based on citizenship.

Anyone with a brain knew the Taliban would take it over in short order

look at how she dresses; she was asking for it

Awful comparison.

This is more akin to a naked person willingly walking into a closed room with 10 known serial rapists to try help them. Of course the person doesn't deserve to get raped, and we should absolutely jump in there and stop it and try to help...but at the same time, what in the hell were you thinking?

So now you believe the Trump hyperbole?

The deadline is what blows my mind. Either they were trying to get out by 9/11 or there's a threat in the background that they are trying to avoid.

Boy that’s an awful specific picture without knowing why individuals are actually there. So I’ll just stick with “she was asking for it” hot take.

Oh it's been terrible but when govt is involved...

I think giving up baghram may give been one of the biggest errors in logistics I've seen. Limiting it to one airfield was crazy. Hopefully it comes out who made that decision

This I can agree with. Bagram would have been the better location to evacuate from, by a long shot. You can get people there from Kabul in 20 minutes by helicopter and it is infinitely more secure than the Kabul airport.

That's a complete cop out. The withdraw from Afghanistan is the greatest debacle in our history that falls on this administration. Leaving American citizens in harms way is unforgivable. We can debate if we should've ever been there in the first place, but this level of incompetence deserves all the criticism it's garnering.

I don't believe trumps words here are hyperbole. He was genuinely proud of striking a deal with the Taliban that excluded the Afghani government and that Biden was powerless to unring that bell.

I also have no doubt that the hand wringing and teeth gnashing by Biden's detractors wouldn't have said a damn word if it were Trump in charge of this fiasco. Sorry, I don't buy the outrage...

They weren't there on official business, that is for sure.

20 school children? Yeah - that is some stupid decision making, anyway you cut it. I'm sorry, it just is.

Anyone not outraged by this fiasco is not paying attention.

I don't think the deadline in itself was a bad idea. I think the complete lack of willingness to make it flexible is. There should have been gate reviews based on the security on the ground.

Greatest debacle in history? That's completely idiotic when you remember what we've done in the ME in the past 2 decades. Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, etc
