How quick can we move assets and soldiers?
We have special forces there (in the area). If there are hundreds of ISIS k in a very complex situation with civilians and possibly Americans in the area then it gets very dicey. I just hope we didn't have the remaining Americans stashed in that hotel for staging because it sounds like it is under siege.

Henry Kissinger: America 'lost strategic focus' in Afghanistan with unattainable goals

From the comment section below: We have an incompetent leader who surrounds himself with incompetent people. They add gasoline to the fire by focusing on "wokeism" & pandering to those on the left rather than to focus on the fundamentals of running a country & to be able to run an economy.

Looks like some of our allies are ceasing evacuation operations citing deteriorating conditions at the Kabul airport.

You realize he's digging at Trump and every other president/admin over the last 40+years too right?

Too many people in the Biden administration just drawing a large check and don't have a track record of substantive accomplishments including at the top.

True. We can also say Trump was not a lifetime politician like 95% of these people. He literally had only 4 years, and toward the end looked for an exist strategy.

Amazing the carnage Osama Bin Laden wrought from 9/11, to the Patriot Act and associated war on terror security state, to Congress abdicating it's war authorization, to endless wars, to drone bombings of civilians, to what now appears to be a severe blow to our ability to lead and the loss of faith in the US from the NATO members.

staggering

WRT to the high school children - apparently they were Afghan nationals who had settled in California not just some rando kids going to Afghanistan for fun.

Hearing at least some have been extracted or soon to be.

More attacks at airport likely - veteran US colonel
Mike Jason, a former US Army battalion commander who was deployed to Afghanistan, said that observers “all knew that this was going to happen”.
“The targets are just too lucrative and the symbolic gesture just too attractive to these people,” he said.
Analysts believe the blasts are probably the work of Isis-K, the Afghan affiliate of Islamic State.
Col Jason said he believed Isis-K would "absolutely” make another attempt to attack the evacuations.
“They’ve got the resources and they’ve got the reach,” he said. “They’ve also got targets - the crowds of defenceless people who are desperate.”
Col Jason, who is working with a non-profit called Allied Airlift 21 that is aimed at evacuating US Afghan allies, said: “We have precious little time and we have to fight. We have five days until the final American pullout, and we don’t know what happens afterwards".

Sadly ... "IF only" Clinton had captured OBL when he had the chance to do so 30 years ago.

Afghans too desperate to heed warnings

There were large crowds at the scene despite warnings of an imminent attack.
People were in such a state of desperation that they're not going to pay attention to this kind of information. They're hearing all kinds of rumours and they're just trying to focus on getting out of the country.
And they've endured so much already to get to this point. Many have camped out for days in dire conditions. What may have seemed to them a vague or hypothetical threat earlier in the day would not have been enough to put them off going to the airport.

Agreed, it is staggering. From blood and treasure lost, liberties trampled on, civilians bombed, and now this withdrawal. It just doesn't seem like we have done anything to discourage another attack. I'm sure if you look back on the last 20 years since 911 the extremists and terrorists see it as largely a validation of their efforts.

indeed - the real goal was to erode the core of the West rather than win on the battlefield. damn effective to date

Biden needs to answer questions from the press on this subject not scripted. Not to just turn around after talking about taking the vaccine jab & walking off stage going behind the curtain to hide from all this sh!t. Biden is proving that he's a damn coward in the WH.

Call me a jaded a-hole, but perhaps it's time for those trying to escape to start thinking of making their stand and fighting back. I've seen plenty of military aged males (and females) waiting to board flights out.

It's past time for the ones relying on us for protection to actually start fighting for themselves.
