Biden says he is not willing to send our troops in to fight a war that the Afghan troops aren't even willing to fight themselves. Certainly agree with that.

And I didn't get the sense he was blaming Trump. All he said was Trump made a deal with the Taliban and it was either go back on the deal or escalate the situation. Those are just facts.

"Failure" is also a matter of perspective. This is a massive failure from the perspective of ordinary citizens like us and folks whose job it was to actually rebuild the institutions of the country and help institute a Western-style democracy. It isn't a failure from the perspective of government bureaucrats and the military-industrial complex though, who are the decision-makers and set policy.

It's a failure only from the perspective of people whose job it was to implement the plan. Those who came up with the plan? That's a different story.

The failure in planning western style democracy there was a complete failure to recognize that Islam doesn't swing that way. Our "leaders/planners/shakers" keep wanting to believe others think the same way we do - many many cultures simply don't. Most of our "leaders" are simply too arrogant or too stupid to accept that they can't change the will of other cultures ... or even a lot of us.

The 2nd paragraph are Biden's facts. I'm sure you feel better now and are ready for your ice cream cone.

Uzbekistan’s Air Defense Forces Shoot Down Afghan Military Jet

Uzbekistan’s air defense forces shot down an Afghan military plane on Monday, shortly after it crossed the border, the Uzbek Defense Ministry confirmed.

The jet crashed Sunday in Uzbekistan’s Surxondaryo province near Afghanistan, Reuters reported.

“Uzbekistan’s air defence forces prevented an attempt by an Afghan military aircraft to illegally cross Uzbekistan’s border,” Defense Ministry spokesman Bahrom Zulfikorov stated. He did not specify how many individuals were on board or if they survived the crash.

“Russia’s RIA news agency earlier on Monday cited Uzbekistan’s defence ministry as saying the pilot had ejected and was injured,” the outlet added.

All he has to do is own up to the fact that they didn't get people out of there quick enough and he's refusing to do it.
This is a significant concern for me, From Biden to Harris, to Bilken to Milley to Austin - And I hope we don't find out Mayorkas - none of them seem to even have a clue how and how bad they screwed up. Bush at least had a cabinet that kept him between the ditches no matter how bad he was driving the bus.

Afghan troops have fought and died to the tune of 10s of thousands of casualties. Their best leaders weren't beaten on the battlefield, but were assassinated in their homes. There biggest problem is logistics, as Afghanistan is extremely difficult to resupply by ground (we even had major difficulties with logistics). It didn't have to be this way. The Afghan army, with a small component of advisors to coordinate air support and solve logistics issues, have held together most of Afghanistan's provinces for years. But everyone knows, even the ANA officers, that Kabul is not a defensible city and it would be destined to fall when cities like Kandahar fell. I'm surprised by how quickly Kabul fell, but I'm not shocked. By cutting off their air support, which also cuts off aerial resupply, I'm sure the Afghan officers knew it was over.

Malarky, he was perfectly fine going back on numerous deal Trump brokered.

Wow - terrible speech.

1. made an argument for getting out of Afghanistan - that had already been decided and not very controversial
2. placed all blame on Afghani leadership and forces - if he didn't see this coming he's an idiot
3. made no statement telling Taliban to stand down or warning of consequences if they harm any of our people or those we are protecting
4. took no questions
5. downplayed the situation we are seeing
6. made it about himself

those on the ground in Afghanistan got zero hope from this

For the most part, I think they knew that culture does not swing that way. Not only is Afghanistan a fundamentalist Islamic country, but it is extremely tribal and extremely challenging geographically. Perhaps some intellectuals in the ivory towers at the think tanks thought they could bring democracy to that country, but I think many with their fingers on the switch knew that bringing Western-style democracy was impossible, or at best would require us being their for decades.

Again though, the MIC and the bureaucrats in the administrative state did not care if we were there for decades. It does not feel like a failure to those who ultimately call the shots.
