There are ivory tower-types (who are important, because the stuff they put out ends up being the intellectual basis for much of our foreign policy) who probably genuinely believed our stated goals in Afghanistan could be achieved. Same with Iraq. As you said, there might be some politicians who genuinely thought those goals could be achieved.I agree to a great extent about the idealists and the profiteers, but I honestly don't think our political types are intelligent enough to understand other cultures and thoughts (RESET BUTTON). Those who do are likely a little like the MIC in that they try to figure out which direction earns them more political points and campaign dough.
How long before the "moderate" (sane) Dems start huddling with the "moderate" (sane) Repubs and yank this stupid chain.
48 years, at this point I don't blame Joe. I blame those that continue to let Joe be himself. Same guy told Barack to not go after and kill Osama."Never underestimate Joe's ability to f things up!"
Barack Obama
That’s our President people! Most popular one ever too! 81M votes!Wow - terrible speech.
1. made an argument for getting out of Afghanistan - that had already been decided and not very controversial
2. placed all blame on Afghani leadership and forces - if he didn't see this coming he's an idiot
3. made no statement telling Taliban to stand down or warning of consequences if they harm any of our people or those we are protecting
4. took no questions
5. downplayed the situation we are seeing
6. made it about himself
those on the ground in Afghanistan got zero hope from this
