"the buck stops with me"

Yet he still is not addressing the actual issue of leaving our citizens unprotected and weaponry to our enemies.

Biden intentionally ignored the issue of his U.S. withdrawal and its aftermath. Refused to take one single question from the media.

His speech changed nothing.

Uzbekistan’s Air Defense Forces Shoot Down Afghan Military Jet

Uzbekistan’s air defense forces shot down an Afghan military plane on Monday, shortly after it crossed the border, the Uzbek Defense Ministry confirmed.

The jet crashed Sunday in Uzbekistan’s Surxondaryo province near Afghanistan, Reuters reported.

“Uzbekistan’s air defence forces prevented an attempt by an Afghan military aircraft to illegally cross Uzbekistan’s border,” Defense Ministry spokesman Bahrom Zulfikorov stated. He did not specify how many individuals were on board or if they survived the crash.

“Russia’s RIA news agency earlier on Monday cited Uzbekistan’s defence ministry as saying the pilot had ejected and was injured,” the outlet added.

Wow - terrible speech.

1. made an argument for getting out of Afghanistan - that had already been decided and not very controversial
2. placed all blame on Afghani leadership and forces - if he didn't see this coming he's an idiot
3. made no statement telling Taliban to stand down or warning of consequences if they harm any of our people or those we are protecting
4. took no questions
5. downplayed the situation we are seeing
6. made it about himself

those on the ground in Afghanistan got zero hope from this

Maybe reading too much into #3 but I am shocked. Almost as if they knew it would be interpreted by Taliban as an empty threat (i.e., red line that would be crossed). Or maybe Biden could not even read the teleprompter correctly....

Biden says he is not willing to send our troops in to fight a war that the Afghan troops aren't even willing to fight themselves. Certainly agree with that.

And I didn't get the sense he was blaming Trump. All he said was Trump made a deal with the Taliban and it was either go back on the deal or escalate the situation. Those are just facts.
I thought I read somewhere that Biden accelerated the timeline after his own intelligence told him they needed 800 days to withdraw. Also, the Taliban didn't adhere to their side of the deal so why did the admin.?

Trump made the deal. Thats a fact.
And the deal involved leaving people and supplies behind?

Come on. I am not on the 25th bus, but you have to admit that it's not the presence of the deal that's the issue here. He had 8 months to get people and supplies out. If you believe his hands were tied by Trump. And he fumbled those 8 months.

I agree he could have done better.

Biden had the best withdrawal plan all lined up. But the night before he sent it to the Pentagon, Donald Trump and his band of meddling kids snuck into the abandoned amusement park he was using as a secret lair and switched the really good plan for a really ****** one. Everything would have worked out perfectly if it hadn't been for Trump and his friends.

For the most part, I think they knew that culture does not swing that way. Not only is Afghanistan a fundamentalist Islamic country, but it is extremely tribal and extremely challenging geographically. Perhaps some intellectuals in the ivory towers at the think tanks thought they could bring democracy to that country, but I think many with their fingers on the switch knew that bringing Western-style democracy was impossible, or at best would require us being their for decades.

Again though, the MIC and the bureaucrats in the administrative state did not care if we were there for decades. It does not feel like a failure to those who ultimately call the shots.

I agree to a great extent about the idealists and the profiteers, but I honestly don't think our political types are intelligent enough to understand other cultures and thoughts (RESET BUTTON). Those who do are likely a little like the MIC in that they try to figure out which direction earns them more political points and campaign dough.
