C'mon man. "China might do something now with Taiwan because we look weak" is a faux concern people are having about Taiwan because it makes Sleepy Joe look bad.

Those same people would have claimed to have not given two s***s about Taiwan when Trump was in office.
China will do something soon. They’ve been telling the world for years that a reunification would happen, and now they’ve seriously changed their rhetoric. It’s not just the handling of Afghanistan that’s caused a shift in their tone but also the world not holding them accountable for the release of Covid. They now realize that no one is going to stop them.

The essence of the Trump cult. You like him, despite his betrayal of the most fundamental conservative principles and his blatant incompetence, just because he annoys and antagonizes people you don't like politically.

Hell of a way to pick a President. I like him simply because you don't.
lol, you seem to reference him in almost all of your posts, but I am the essence of the Trump cult. Good one.

Ideally working closely with our allies to promote our values globally when possible.

Certainly not with the permanent occupation of Afghanistan.
So are you concerned at all that the Biden admin didn't even tell the Brits when were pulling out? They are our closest ally, and we just pulled up stakes and said see ya.

Our adversaries have said this for decades, at least since Vietnam.

We need to be better at propaganda. For example, point out the Chinese move in to countries, sell them stuff they can't afford, call the loans, own them when they default on the loans, and then turn those countries into prostitutes. We also need to point out the condition of countries where the USSR ran their "wars of liberation" ... and if necessary the condition of countries that the Europeans colonized.

We're better at propaganda than anybody in the history of planet Earth. Soft power.

Everyone knows this but the Chicomms are doing this in countries with terribly corrupt governments so the leaders DGAF they're getting paid.

Maybe, maybe not.

My point is that there is a crowd of people who would have asked "Who gives a ****?" about that prospect 7 months ago, but now they clutch pearls over it because a guy with a D after his name is in the Oval Office.

China Touts ‘U.S. Humiliation’ in Afghanistan in Warning to Taiwan

China poised to fill vacuum in Afghanistan as United States flees Taliban takeover

China says "U.S. humiliation" in Afghanistan should be a warning sign to Taiwan and other U.S allies in the region that the American military "won't come to help" if war breaks out in the future.

As Taliban militants reclaim control of war-torn Afghanistan after the Biden administration's decision to remove all U.S. troops from the country, China is stepping in to fill the power vacuum. Communist Party officials have been talking to Taliban leaders, and China's embassy in Afghanistan is operating normally, even as the United States conducts an emergency evacuation of its personnel in the country.

Why did we have to leave at all?

IMO, After 9/11 that country should have been ours to do with what we wanted from the time we stepped foot into it till the end of time.

After all we still have Military bases in Japan, Germany and Italy going on 80 years. We have Military stationed in Saudia Arabia/Kuwait for 30 years now. I'm sure I'm missing a country or a dozen as well.

Those countries pay for our presence. Afghanistan does not nor can it.

Oh. I definitely think he handled this poorly. That’s not what the post I was quoting was saying, though.

It doesn’t matter to me who is in office. What matters is China is going to start calling all the shots soon. They’ve made us their girlfriend.

The Taliban Have Been In Charge of Kabul for 48 Hours. Women Have Already Disappeared From The Streets

Kabul (CNN)The busy Kabul street looks almost as if nothing has changed. People rush by, as shopkeepers arrange their colorful merchandise, and police direct traffic.

There's one big change, though: There are almost no women here. Since the Taliban took over the Afghan capital on Sunday, women have largely stayed indoors.

The Taliban has repeatedly said that women's rights will be protected under their rule, but it is clear that many Afghan women are terrified by the prospect of life under the Taliban.

Many of the educated, fearless women who spent the last decade building their careers are desperately looking for a way out, worried they may be targeted by the Taliban.

China is a paper tiger. The only reason they have a viable economy is because the US Navy patrols the world's oceans. Horrible demography.

Also, them taking some kind of action against Taiwan could be one of the worst miscalculations of all time. History is replete with instances where an actor has "gotten away with" some sort of previous bad action that could have been punished, but wasn't. They think that they are bulletproof and continue pushing the envelope, until one day they push it too far and get whacked. Saddam Hussein invading Kuwait is probably the quintessential example.

Is that propoganda or truth? Maybe we should stop telling countries otherwise. Maybe then they would form real coalitions and drive change. Or fold. But that's on them.

You are way off base and couldn't be more wrong. Everyone should give a big **** when the world thinks we are weak and feckless, that makes us vulnerable. Nobody should give a **** when the world thinks our POTUS is a bombastic *******.

Meanwhile, the old Soviet Union, circa 1982 and their misadventure in Afghanistan, says hold my beer.

Hopefully out of this we will see Congress do more to assert its authority and not allow open-ended conflict this to go unexamined at the outset. Its fine to allow a POTUS a lot of discretion as to when to engage military action short of a formal declaration of war, especially in modern times when there is less traditional nation-state attack on us.

But the Congress should reasonably demand that whatever administration is calling those shots identify set goals that justify termination of hostilities. Otherwise it just goes on and on and at the very end we end up at best "tied" with whatever enemy there is because nobody articulated precise criteria to measure success.

Senate Dems To Seek ‘Full Accounting’ Of Biden Admin’s ‘Flawed’ Afghan Withdrawal

Kabul-2.jpg

The Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees — both chaired by Democrats — will launch investigations into the “flawed” American withdrawal from Afghanistan, which left up to 10,000 American citizens and 40,000 allies stranded as the Taliban closed in on the capital city of Kabul.
